Australian Lego Sales – December 2013
Update (15/12/12) – Big W Ninja Turtle set for cheap, Toys R Us Galaxy Quest set for cheap
Here we are in December! It seems as if 2013 practically flew by in a flash!
With Christmas less than 3 weeks away, Australian toy retailers are trying harder than ever to attract Lego fans young and old to spend, spend, spend before the year is out.
I’ve put together a list to hopefully make it easier for you to know where the best Lego deals are to be found this December!
Big W (Catalogue Link 12 – 24 December)
Big W are looking to get a head start in clearing their Ninja Turtles set by deeply discounting 79103 Turtle Lair Attack for $38. Weighing in at almost 500 pieces and 5 minifigs, you probably won’t get this deal at a better price ever. With Ninja Turtles sets not selling well and languishing on Australian retail shelves, I have a gut feeling that this is just the beginning and we’re going to get more deep discounts on Ninja Turtles sets after Christmas.
This picture was taken at Big W QV, Melbourne CBD last Thursday.
Toys ‘R’ Us (Catalogue Link 4 – 18 December 2013) (Catalogue Link 18-24 December 2013)
Great new deal I spotted in the new Toys R Us catalog. 70705 Bug Obliterator at 50% for VIP Club Members. At over 700 pieces, this set is a great pickup if you’re into Space Lego. Lots of orange bricks as well, and an overall great source of parts for spaceships.
The Lego 60010 Fire Helicopter is 50% off at Toys ‘R’ Us at $25 as long as you’re a VIP Club member which is free to join. Half-off Lego is a rare occurrence in Australia so if you’re a fan of Lego City, this might be the best time to pick this set up.
Haven’t picked up Series 11 minifigs yet? Looking to build an army of Yeti or Holiday Elves? Toys R Us has 4 Series 11 minifigures for $12 which means each blind bag will only cost you a clean $3.
Target (Catalogue Link 5 – 11 December 2013)
Target impresses again with a blanket 20% off Lego deal, which seems to be one of the best overall deals this holiday season. While they may be light on bigger sets such as modulars, they’re still the retailer to go to for regular Lego sets.
Another great reason to hop on over to Target this week is that they’re already carrying the new Hobbit sets. There’s no better feeling than getting brand new Lego sets at 20% off! Here’s an indication of how much you’ll save:
79011 Dol Guldur Ambush $39 $31
79012 Mirkwood Elf Army $59 $47
79013 Lake-town Chase $79 $63
79014 Dol Guldur Battle $99 $79
I’ve also heard rumours that the new Ninjago Rebooted sets are starting to appear in Target shelves, but I’ve not seen them personally. Oh and if you’re after old Hobbit/LotR sets (Attack of the Wargs/Escape from Mirkwood/Council of Elrond), try searching the shelves as those sets are already reduced for clearance and can be combined with the 20% discount.
Oh and if you’re after the 10937 Batman Arkham Asylum Breakout, now would be a great time to pick it up from Target at $200. Sadly, no R2-D2s on the shelves this time.
David Jones (Catalogue Link 5 – 8 December 2013)
David Jones also has a 20% off Lego sale till this Sunday (8 December) but unfortunately excludes Lego Creator, which means you won’t be able to pickup massive sets like the Sydney Opera House or Modulars at a steep discount. You could try checking with the salespeople if they’ll ring the discount through (I’ve successfully done it before) if you want to be sneaky.
Unfortunately, I don’t think DJs has any of the newer sets yet.
Kmart (Catalogue Link 5 – 11 December 2013)
Kmart sales are starting to get kinda meh. There’s nothing on sale that can’t be obtained for less in Target’s 20% off sale. One set to take note off is the 9468 Monster Fighters Vampire Castle, which is advertised at $99. Kmart are probably the only retailer still trying to move Monster Fighter sets, so they’re the place to go to if you’re still looking to complete your collection. I’d personally wait for them to aggressively discount them further to make space for next year’s new Lego sets. Hopefully after Christmas!
Myer (Catalogue Link 28 November – 24 December)
Myer’s been pretty light on sales, they’ve had sporadic 20% off Lego sales in the last few weeks but nothing out of the ordinary.
In their most recent catalogue, their exclusive HH-87 Star Hopper is advertised at $55, which may be a good pickup for Star Wars fans.
Notably, the 10229 Winter Village Cottage is no longer a Toyworld exclusive and can be found in Myer now. I picked mine up for $90, using some gift cards and a one-day 20% sale late last month.
Hope this list helps you out if you’re looking to sneak some Lego purchases under your Christmas tree! Good luck and happy Christmas shopping!
