The LEGO Movie’s MetalBeard’s Sea Cow To Cost AU$389.99 in Australia

OUCH!

70810 - Metalbeard's Sea Cow Australian Price

You read that title right, one of the most anticipated sets from The LEGO Movie, Metalbeard’s Sea Cow will cost Australians a whopping AU$389.99 via Lego.com’s online store. The humongous pirate ship from The LEGO Movie weighs in at 2,741 pieces and will include 4 minifigures from the movie, Emmet, Benny, Vitruvius and Wyldstyle, in addition to MetalBeard and QueasyKitty.

The set will be available to LEGO.com VIP members on the 17th of February at http://shop.lego.com/en-AU/MetalBeard-s-Sea-Cow-70810

The general public will be able to get their hands on the set on 1 March 2014. Unlike The Simpsons House, I’m going to be waiting out for this one and possibly waiting till March to purchase it, simply because I want to get the Martian Manhunter minifigure, which will be bundled if your shopping cart goes above $150 (based on previous offers).

Check out the Designer Video here to see just how massive this ship is.

I haven’t even seen the movie but I already want this set so badly. It’s the largest Pirate ship that LEGO have put together, with over 1000 pieces more than the Imperial Flagship so this thing would be a beauty to have on my display shelf.

Ponying up almost $400 for it… now that’s going to hurt quite a bit. I just wish that the Australian markups weren’t going to be too outlandish, but getting burned by the Australian tax is almost part and parcel of living in this wonderful country.

Anyway, here’s a huge bunch of beautiful hi-res images of the Sea Cow and a list of features.

hi jay, nice to meet you. come across ur blog some time ago. saw a couple of your article. I am staying in KL. Speaking about buying lego, one of your recommendation is tru ebay if I am not wrong. Any other ways to buy from Malaysia without getting head chopped off? recently I bought the sea cow fr a toy seller at a price of RM1130. So sad I dun get to own the martian minifigure

Hi Jenson, great to meet you as well. I only recommend eBay as most people have quite a bit of experience buying from eBay as the transaction process is generally quite easy to understand and smooth compared to other avenues. If you’d like to save some money and import sets in, I recommend http://www.barnesandnoble.com. You can get LEGO shipped to you from the US at US prices and the shipping isn’t too crazy. You could also try http://www.bricklink.com if you’re after minifigs or discontinued sets.

With regards to the Martian Manhunter, try to snag one off eBay! They’re only going to appreciate in value. You don’t want to end up buying them when they’re worth twice what they sell for now, like the Incredible Hulk minifigure!

I wanted to ask anyone out there if there is any possible way to purchase Metalbeards Sea cow at a very low discount price? I know this set just hit the lime light and it’s been a long time coming, but this character and his ship are my sons absolute favorite. He talks about nothing more than this set. And with his biryhday coming up here in June, it would be awesome to watch him open this up . Considering i just lost my job back in September of last year and still out of work, I can gather some coin together but not the entire amount. So if anyone knows of or has some thoughts please advise. Thank you,

      Hey Ron

Unfortunately, the set isn’t available at normal stores, so I’m not too sure if it’ll ever go on discount. If you’re on a budget, I would like to recommend 70807, Metalbeard’s Duel. It’s a smaller set and contains a mecha Metalbeard that you build. It’s a pretty decent set which would be great for your son’s birthday. Let me know if I can help with anything else.

      Regards
      Jay

So, have you decided which sets your going to get from the whole line? I’m wondering whether the Sea Cow will inhibit your spending on the other movie sets. Or is it going to be an all-in? I’m really just focused on the flying flusher and the ice cream truck, tbh. If I could only spend under $10o I’d get those. Keen on getting two of each though- for the alt vehicle modes, of course!

So I’ve still got over a month left on my ‘Lego hiatus’ and I won’t be getting any of these sets without a significant price reduction. I’m actually hoping that the sets I want are shelf warmers, sit around and end up having their prices slashed (just like what happened with the tmnt sets — dagnamit! I bought the turtle lair at $79). Who in their right mind will be buying tmnt sets at retail when they surface? Not me.

Lastly.. Sightings on the haunted house have been made across Australia at a further reduced price down to an enticingly ‘frightening’ $169.. Oooooooooooooooooh!! Not bad seeing as though S@H are still at full RRP at about $269 from memory.

    Enjoy your day, mate.

No words. Ok.. Lots come to mind. Stupendous ? Outlandish? Colossal? Broke.

    I’ll go with broke.
