May the 4th LEGO Star Wars Event in Sydney

UPDATE: I recently got to interview LEGO Master Builder Dan Steininger. Check the interview out here.

LEGO Star Wars May 4 Sydney

This year, to celebrate Star Wars Day aka May t

he 4th, LEGO Australia has a special event planned for Sydney to construct the world’s largest Darth Vader model from LEGO Bricks at Westfield Penrith. The weekend-long event will also see US LEGO Master Builder, Dan Steininger joining forces with Australia’s own Ryan McNaught to build a massive LEGO Darth Vader.

I looked up Dan Steininger to find out what he was all about and I found this documentary on LEGO’s Youtube page where he talks about his job as a Master Builder and what it’s like building LEGO for a living. Best job ever or what?

As a Melburnian, I am extremely jealous that I won’t be able to be in Sydney for this as I’m sure the event will be a ton of fun.

The event takes place at Centre Court, Westfield Penrith from Saturday, May 3rd to Sunday May 4th and is a free event where the public and Sydney LEGO fans are invited to join Dan & Ryan as they build the massive model. To give you a sense of how big the planned model is, the LEGO Darth Vader is set to scale and will tower almost 4 metres high, constructed out of 250,000 LEGO bricks.

In addition to Darth, fans will be invited to Choose a Side, where Dan & Ryan will also be building a giant model of everyone’s favourite Jedi Grand Master, Yoda which will be over 2 metres tall. For more serious LEGO enthusiasts, there will also be new sets from LEGO Star Wars on display as well as Star Wars trivia and Speed Building challenges with plenty of prizes for everyone. As an ex-champion speed builder, speed building competitions are such an adrenaline rush and a whole lot of fun!

I’ve helped build a massive R2-D2 back in Malaysia, and basically each person will construct a large block out of bricks , which will then be used to assemble the finished model.

If you dress up as your favourite Star Wars character, you’ll also stand a chance at winning a LEGO Star Wars goodie bag. Great news for you guys who own Stormtrooper or Ewok costumes at home who can’t wait till Halloween to cosplay!
