LEGO 76042 UCS SHIELD Helicarrier Priced at $499.99 in Australia

LEGO 76042 UCS SHIELD Helicarrier Australian Price

UPDATE: The SHIELD Helicarrier is now available for pre-order on LEGO.com. You’ll also receive a Winter Soldier polybag!

What amazing news to wake up to. LEGO.com has the listing for the upcoming UCS SHIELD Helicarrier and with it the confirmed Australian price and release date – $500! It will be released on 19 February 2015 for VIP Members ahead of its general release date of March 2015.

I have to say that I was fearing the worst about the Helicarrier’s price ever since it was announced that it would cost $350 in the United States. With how weak the Aussie dollar has been against the USD, AU$500 is a fantastic price – we’re pretty much getting this at US RRP, give or take 50 bucks. Maybe this will get people to quit whining about how Australia keeps getting screwed over

This has pushed me over the line, and I will most likely be picking this up at release.

Adding on to the Helicarrier hype, Chris McVeigh aka PowerPig has produced a great chart which shows off the relative size of the UCS Helicarrier compared with some of the recent Big-Boys-LEGO releases.

    Ungh!!!! $500!?

I thought as much.. With dollars so hard to come by, this may seem like ‘value’, but I just can’t justify $500 on a box of grey bricks. That’s SO much money. Some people (serious collectors) limit themselves to $1000 a year, and having half of your budget going to this is just way over the top. I am not a fan of the Death Star, but even that has priority over this for a steaming five hundred big ones. Considering my car probably isn’t worth that much now, I may as well have my head in the guillotine if I were to tell the old lady that I’m buying this.

My advice to comment readers– save your $ for modulars, Christmas sets, interesting polybags on amazon, or more $40 sets of your choice that you can poke a stick at– that will provide so much more variability and stimulation than this ONE, SINGLE set.

.. And what a year this will be, too— Scooby Doo, Pirates, a diver theme– JURASSIC PARK, for God’s sake. All these sets OR one box of grey bricks. No brainer for me. Now, don’t get me wrong- if you win lotto or care little for where your hard earned dollars go, sure go right ahead. And while you’re at it, use the SUPER JUMPER and damage your minifigs too- they’re all replaceable with money, too, right?

Perfect example of a very emotional, persuasive response :D. I hope no one takes anything I’ve said personally. I don’t know your motivations or situation. But I do know mine.

    I don’t think I’ve wanted a set LESS.

I think you nailed it on the head, there are so many great sets and themes coming out this year!

I admire your very passionate response haha, great to get things off your chest! It’s definitely polarising just because of the sheer size of it, and I’ll definitely have to forgo stuff like Modulars this year. The Palace Cinema and Detective’s Office can wait till next year, heh

Lego certainly has made 2015 one of the most difficult times to make these hard choices.. Why couldn’t they have staggered them? From memory, 2012 and 2013 were pretty lite on with good sets possibly with the exception of some hobbit sets (that I missed- including the unexpected gathering) and spongebob and Harry potter – or was they earlier?

And to make matters worse, our travel plans are preventing me from any Lego indulging — I may not be even buying too much while I’m away (mainly because of space limitations). Probably only room for those space-saving poly bags and some hard to find Nanoblocks from places like Disneyland and Six Flags.

That detective’s office would be totally awesome next to my pet shop. That will have to wait as well. Sigh!

        Enjoy your evening 🙂
