Now that I’m back in the swing of things, I’m happy to get you guys up to speed on the latest Australian sales. Starting today (Thursday, 17 September), nearly all the major retailers (barring David Jones) are kicking of massive Toy Sale Catalogues in conjunction with the start of the school holidays. Great news as that means plenty of LEGO deals and sales!
Let’s get straight into the catalogues. I probably won’t list down every single sales item and will instead highlight some of the standout deals that you should look out for.
These are all sets I would buy if I had no self control, heh.
Big W (Catalogue Link 17 – 30 September)
I’ve chosen to feature Big W’s catalogue first as they have some smashing discounts aimed at LEGO Star Wars, City and Elves/Friends fans.
The highlight of the catalogue has to be the fantastic prices for the new Episode 7: The Force Awakens sets, which I believe are the best out of all the other retailers this year. Big W is going all out to dominate the other toy retailers with the Star Wars Ep. 7 sets – check out this video that was shared with me to view some Episode 7 unboxings during Force Friday which I unfortunately missed!
That said, the prices for the new Star Wars Constractable Figures are pretty underwhelming. I’d skip if I were you and also avoid 75109 Obi Wan Kenobi as its actually priced ABOVE RRP.
The new City Deep Sea Explorers sets are also deeply discounted, including massive savings on the flagship 60095 Deep Sea Explorer (read my review!). The Kwik-E-Mart is also at a great price so if you’re a Simpsons fans you might want to pick it up as well.
Big W gains the edge this toy sale season purely because they’re discounting already lower than usual LEGO prices. They’re quickly becoming my go-to for LEGO after some smashing sales in the past few weeks. Now…if only they could improve their online shopping experience…
Highlights (RRP is based on real RRP, not Big W’s everyday low prices):

Friends/Elves
- 41078 Skyra’s Mysterious Sky Castle – $98 (RRP $130)

- 41100 Heartlake Private Jet – $30 (RRP $40)
I’m Rick James Bricks
If you’re in the South East of Melbourne, you can also check out I’m Rick James Bricks in Pakenham. They’re an independent LEGO store and the owner is a huge AFOL and most importantly a top bloke. They’re price matching Big W’s catalogue so you can be assured that you’ll get the best prices for Star Wars and LEGO City.
A great alternative if you want to support your local independent LEGO store. Say hi for me if you find yourself at I’m Rick James Bricks.
Myer (Catalogue Link 17 September – 11 October)
Myer have opted to feature the Simpsons Kwik E Mart as their catalogue cover. Unlike previous sales where you can expect a blanket 20% off LEGO, Myer seems to be straying towards the Dark Side and are only discounting selected themes.
Not a fan of this approach but it makes plenty of business sense. There’s little incentive to offer blanket 20% off sales which will include Modular Buildings when fans will eagerly and impatiently buy them at full price.
I was in Myer yesterday to check out the shelves and saw a guy walk out with 2 UCS Slave 1s…at full price. They’ve clearly figured out that exclusives will sell on their own, so all you impatient folks buying big ticket items at full price – you’re ruining it for the rest of us penny pinchers!
This sales season, Myer is offering 20% off LEGO City, Ninjago and Friends as well as a few erratic discounts off The Force Awakens sets. The Kwik E Mart is quite pricey, coming it at only a 10% discount – you can get a better price for it elsewhere or if you price match Big W.
The only highlight for me are the Ninjago discounts, since the other retailers have barely touched the theme. You can skip the other deals as there are better savings elsewhere.
Oh and Myer are having an offer for their Myer One members where you’ll receive a $20 Myer Gift Card when you spend $150 or more on toys in-store. This promotion lasts from Wednesday, 16 September – Friday, 18 September. More savings, yay!
Ninjago 2015
- 70736 Attack of the Morro Dragon – $84 (RRP $110)
- 70737 Titan Mech Battle – $70 (RRP $90)
- 70735 Ronin R.E.X – $70 (RRP $90)
Kmart (Catalogue Link 17 September – 7 October)
Kmart continues their tradition of hard to decipher LEGO catalogues with 4 pages of erratic discounts and deals. Kmart’s niche has been the sub-$50 sets with most of the discounts tailored towards that group.
Honestly, there’s not much that excited me about the catalogue. It’s mostly impulse purchase sets that I would consider. That said, there are some great discounts for Friends sets to consider!
Highlights (RRP is based on real RRP, not Kmart’s lower than usual prices) :
- Ninjago Airjitzu Flyers (in the back page of the catalogue) – $12 (RRP $16)
- 70735 Ronin R.E.X. – $65 (RRP $90)
- 31039 Creator Blue Power Jet – $65 (RRP $90)
- 41106 Pop Star Tour Bus – $65 (RRP $80)
- 41100 Heartlake Private Jet – $30 (RRP $40)
- 41099 Heartlake Skate Park – $20 (RRP $30)
- 41103 Pop Star Recording Studio – $19 (RRP $25)
- 41098 Emma’s Tourist Kiosk – $12 ($16)
- Assorted City Vehicles – $20 (RRP $30)
Target (Catalogue Link 17 September – 4 October)
Target are following in Myer’s footsteps with selected theme discounts. Curiously, the standout deals are clearance-type deals on the older Ultra Agents and LEGO Movie sets which I suspect have been languishing on the shelves for some time.
If you’re an economical LEGO buyer, these clearance deals are a godsend. The 50% off the Ultra Agents Mission HQ and Toxikita’s Toxic Meltdown are especially great. 30% off LEGO Movie sets is also quite decent if you’re still looking to round out your collection. Do note that there are additional online only discounts exclusive to their website.
Other than that, the 20% off Ninjago deal is decent, but there’s nothing else that’s really noteworthy. If the sets are linked, that means that you can purchase them online.
Highlights:
Ultra Agents Clearance
- 70165 Ultra Agents Mission HQ – $64 (RRP $140)
- 70163 Toxikita’s Toxic Meltdown – $29 (RRP $59)
- 70168 Drillex Diamond Job – $39 (RRP $49)
- 70167 Invizable Gold Getaway – $20 (RRP $29)
- 70166 Spyclops Infiltration – $10 (RRP $15)
The LEGO Movie Clearance
- 70816 Benny’s Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! – $104 (RRP $149)
- 70815 Super Secret Police Dropship – $79 (RRP $119)
- 70814 Emmet’s Construct-O-Mech – $59 (RRP $89)
- 70808 Super Cycle Chase – $55 (RRP $79)
- 70807 Metalbeard’s Duel – $34 (RRP $49)
- 70802 Bad Cop’s Pursuit – $28 (RRP $40)
- 70806 Castle Cavalry – $28 (RRP $40)
Toys R Us (Catalogue Link 16 – 29 September)
I’ve left the most unremarkable catalogue for last – the Toys R Us catalogue. There are only a handful of Star Wars and Bionicle sets on sale and honestly, they’re nothing to shout about.
They’re really only relevant if you’re after TRU exclusives such as 75058 MTT and the new 75096 Sith Infiltrator. Do note that you’ll need to be a VIP Club Member to qualify for those discounts.
Highlights:
- 75096 Sith Infiltrator – $140 (RRP $160)
- 75058 MTT – $130 (RRP $150)
My recommendation is to ditch the whole catalogue and just use the 22nd Birthday Voucher which I believe was sent out to VIP Club Members. In case you didn’t get one, I’ve attached it below.
You should be able to sign up on the spot and use this voucher to enjoy 22% off one full-priced item in store (18-20 September) or online by using the promo code BIRTHDAY (17-20 September). Way better savings, although you’re limited to one item!
So yeah, that concludes my September sales wrap-up! Plenty of deals and it looks like I’ll have to exercise plenty of self control in the next 2 weeks!
To get the most out of these sales, remember to always try to price match to save you time and effort travelling to different stores. Most stores will have to oblige once you show them the catalogue but your mileage may vary, depending on how grumpy or friendly the sales assistant is.
What are you planning to buy? Let me know in the comments! For myself, I’ll dip my feet into the Star Wars Force Awakens sets. That Orange X-Wing Starfighter is right in my crosshairs!

Reminder: I’m Rick James Bricks is price matching Big W

Cheers, Rick! I’ll update the post with that info soon 🙂

Thanks, great wrap-up. The Lamborghini X-Wing is awesome, as is the Millennium Falcon – lots of fun to build, and it comes with Old Han!
Off-Topic: have you ever done an article on how you display all your many sets? I’m starting to need a proper display solution.
Jay says
Lambo X-Wing! Man, I’ll never be able to call it anything else now, haha.
No I haven’t. My display is sort of a mess right now, but I suppose once I clear my room I could do some sort of tour. Truth be told, I rotate my sets quite often to make space. So I’m always assembling and disassembling sets. The sad part is that I have SO many sets that are left unbuilt because I either have a) no time or b) no space. Classic AFOL problems.
Michael says
I’m starting to learn this, being new to the AFOL game 🙂
That’s why I bought it mainly – such a cool colour scheme.

Great wrap up Jay – thanks! I’ll try and put a few on laybuy from Big W.

You’re welcome! What are you planning on getting?
