I’ve got great news for Melbourne LEGO fans! LEGO Australia will be bringing the massive LEGO Christmas Tree that was first unveiled in Sydney last year to Federation Square to celebrate the festive period!
The giant LEGO tree, constructed specially for Australian LEGO fans will be adorned by a brand new star, personally designed and built by Master Builder Chris Steininger (check out my interview with him here) and will dazzle the crowds from Friday, 27 November to Saturday, 27 December 2015.
The Christmas Tree will soar close to 10m tall and is made out of half a million LEGO bricks. Along with the new star, Chris Steininger and his family have made a few improvements to the tree, so expect Aussie references such as cricket bat-wielding elves, mischief-making kookaburras and the merry man himself, Santa Claus.
There will also be a daily light show set to much-loved Christmas carols, guaranteeing plenty of festive fun for families.
To announce the arrival of the Christmas Tree and get fans excited, LEGO Australia have whipped together this charming stop-motion video. Check it out and share it with your friends!
I got to visit Sydney to check out the Christmas tree last year and can attest that it’s a lot of fun, so if you’re in Melbourne during the holiday period, be sure to check out the Christmas Tree in Fed Square. It’s a lot larger and more majestic than the photos might suggest and it’s great that Melbourne is finally getting some awesome LEGO Christmas events!
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to be there for the launch on the 27th of November as I’ll be away for holidays but I’ll be sure to head down there and snap some photos upon my return!
Hope to see you at the Christmas tree! Let me know if you’re going to be there and I might be able to pop by and say hi as I work very close to it!
