Upcoming LEGO polybags promos for Australia – Classic Mr Freeze and Easter Minifigure (5004468)
UPDATE: Good news! For those of you waiting on the Batman Classic TV Series Mr Freeze polybag, the promotion is now live on the Australian LEGO.com store! To qualify for the free polybag, you’ll have to purchase over $100 worth of LEGO products in your cart. The threshold is a little high, but the good news is that you can buy LEGO from any theme to qualify – not just DC Super Heroes products.
It’s a great time to pick up some of the new Angry Birds sets or maybe Speed Champions or you could of course splash out on the Classic TV Series Batcave.
The LEGO Mr Freeze Polybag promotion will run from 1 – 30 April 2016 or while stocks last.
UPDATE: In a surprise turn of events, the Chicken Suit Guy is now available at selected Toyworlds in Australia as part of an Easter promotion. Check out the March 2016 sales post for more details.
UPDATE: The Chicken Suit Guy promo is now LIVE on LEGO.com! The Iconic Easter Minifigure Set 5004468 will show up in your cart with purchases of AU$40 or more.
While you may be excited and all, I’d recommend waiting till the 7th as it’s widely expected that there’ll be Double VIP points from 7 – 22 March.
Enjoy!
The UK LEGO Store newsletter for March/April 2016 was recently released online (download it directly here) which gives us a peek into upcoming exclusive LEGO promotions. The news is relevant to Australia as our LEGO.com promos are usually synced up with that of the UK (and EU) which means I’m pretty confident that the same promos will apply to us too.
I’m about… 90% sure.
Because we don’t have official LEGO stores here in Australia, LEGO.com is the only way we get access to exclusive promotional polybags (like the Winter Soldier or Martian Manhunter). The lack of any sort of store calendar can sometimes make it tricky to know about upcoming polybags but I’ve been using the UK store calendar for some months and it’s proven to be quite prescient most of the time.
The last thing you’ll want is to make a order on LEGO.com and discover next week that if you had waited a few days, your order would’ve qualified for a sweet new polybag.
The biggest news in the UK store calendar is the confirmation of the LEGO 30603 Classic Mr Freeze polybag. The exclusive minifigure is designed to complement the Classic TV Series Batcave in all its retro glory.
Here’s a closer look at the polybag via Bricktoynews. You can check out their post for more pictures of the polybag.
In the UK, the polybag will be available for free with any LEGO DC Super Heroes purchases over £50 from 1 – 30 April 2016. I expect the same will apply here in Australia with a $50 or $75 (I hope its the former) threshold.
Again, no idea why they didn’t launch this to incentivise people to buy the Classiv TV Series Batcave…
Another interesting discovery is the March/Easter promo – an Iconic Easter Minifigure (set number 5004468) with any purchase over £15. This promotion runs from 1 – 31 March 2016.
Details are pretty scant on this but they’ve teased Series 9’s Chicken Suit Guy in the newsletter. Now I doubt that they’ll re-release the Chicken Suit Minifigure, but LEGO have done stranger things.
UPDATE: So I was really, really wrong about it not being a Chicken Suit Minifigure. Toys R Us (the US one) has revealed the Iconic Easter Minifigure is none other than the Chicken Suit Guy from Series 9, just with a cardboard henhouse box. I’m guessing it’s meant to be a place to hide Easter Eggs?

Anyway… this is HUGE and sets quite a huge precedent – that LEGO is able (and seemingly more than willing) to re-release rare and extremely sought after minifigures in promotional polybags. Chicken Suit Guy is currently averaging AU$45 on Bricklink. Expect this to plummet (yay).
For minifigure investors/collectors – this means bad news as literally anything could be next. Bunny Suit Guy? Bumblebee Girl? Series 1 Zombie? Nothing is safe!
These are going to be interesting times. I for one fully welcome this decision by LEGO to flood and reintroduce rare minifigs to the market so fans (especially those who missed out) don’t have to cough up obscene prices on the aftermarket.
Another likely possibility is the Bunny Suit Guy minifigure but again, I highly doubt that LEGO would rerelease Collectible Minifigures in polybags. Maybe a variant of some sort?
Whatever it is, I hope the Iconic Easter Minifigure comes with one of those new Egg accessories found in the Angry Birds sets.
Anyway, it looks like an exciting two months ahead. Hopefully this will help you plan your purchases from LEGO.com in advance to qualify for these minifigures. Unless you really need the Classic TV Series Batcave right now, it might be worth waiting till April to easily qualify for the Mr Freeze polybag. And hey, there might be double VIP points promos as well, but those just seem to pop up randomly – although I’m expecting one around Easter.
I have to mention that these aren’t 100% confirmed for the Australian LEGO.com store, but I’m pretty confident since it’s in the UK and EU Store calendars.
March should see the new LEGO Elves, Minecraft and Mighty Micro sets go live, so there’ll be plenty of new sets to qualify for these promotional polybags.
Hope this helps!
