February MiniFigPak Review

The weekend is almost over! *groan*. Since there’s only less than a week less in February (what!?), I figured I better get my review of the February MinifigPak out of the way. I actually received my copy of the February MinifigPak a couple of weeks ago, but I just tossed it in my pile of unopened mail (plenty of Bricklink, eBay and BSS orders) as I have been pretty busy this month.

It struck me that there’s only a week left in February, so here’s my review of the February MinifigPak! For existing MinifigPak subscribers, the contents shouldn’t come as a surprise since this is so late!

In case you have no idea what a MinifigPak is…  MinifigPak is  an Australian monthly mystery minifigure subscription service.  For AU$17.95 a month, you receive 3 random LEGO minifigures delivered to you. The LEGO minifigs are all original LEGO, so there’s no knockoffs or customs which will set LEGO purists at ease.

Unlike the BrickPak which I didn’t quite like, I’m quite a fan of the MinifigPak and see it as money well spent, which is why I’m still a paying subscriber. It’s a neat little service, not too heavy on the wallet, and I kinda like the thrill of getting 3 random minifigs in my postbox each month. Who doesn’t like receiving mail?

February MinifigPak contains the usual items, 3 bagged minifigures (pictured in the first photo) and a small leaftlet containing information on the minifigs included in the month. You get plenty of useful info such as the minifigure’s name, theme and date of release as well. It’s pretty handy for regular LEGO fans as you never know what minifigs are included in each month’s pack.

In February’s Minifigpag you receive:

City Square Barista is the female counterpart to the LEGO Movie’s Larry the Barista. She appears in 2015’s excellent City Square set, and I’m pretty pleased to get her. I have plans of building a full-sized cafe this year (ugh, how Melbourne of me) so getting an extra barista is pretty sweet. I love her outfit, the leather apron complete with the cute coffee logo is heaps cute and pretty similar to how baristas dress at cafes.

Michelangelo is from the now defunct Ninja Turtles theme. He appears in two sets, a polybag and 79104 The Shellraiser Street Chase, both of which I don’t own so he’s a new addition to my collection. As a minifigure, Michelangelo looks great and has that cheeky tongue sticking out of his smile. Ninja Turtles was a pretty underhyped theme (I only bought like…2 sets?), but you can’t deny that the minifigs produced weren’t very well designed, so I’m pretty happy to own a Michelangelo minifigure.

Furty the Fox is from one of LEGO’s recent unsuccessful themes – Legends of Chima, which was recently taken out the back and retired. Unlike most AFOLs who lambasted the theme, I actually didn’t mind the theme. I managed to pick up several choice sets when they were on clearance, which was pretty good value as they had some pretty interesting minifig designs. Furty only appeared in one of those Speedorz sets so he’s kinda rare. He’s a Fox, with a head that you can pop off to reveal a regular minifigure head.

Despite being an anthropomorphic Fox, it’s actually not too bad of a minifigure. The printing is nice and detailed the head accessory is kinda useful… if you want a giant oversized Fox mask for your regular minifigs. Shame that the eyeholes don’t line up properly with normal minifigures.

With the unwarranted hate that Chima receives from the LEGO fan community, Furty would probably be most disliked minifigure out of this trio. But hey, that’s one of the things I like about the MinifigPak – receiving minifigures that you normally wouldn’t ever buy for yourself. Hopefully it’ll convince some MinifigPak subscribers that Chima isn’t really as bad as most people say.

I’m pretty satisfied and happy with February’s MinifigPak. I guess it’s lucky that it contained 3 minifigures that correspond with my own LEGO interest so I’m pretty stoked with the contents this month. My favourite minifigure has to be the City Square Barista.

I have to say that it’s pretty good value for $18 and I’ll be looking forward to seeing what I get in March. Are you a MinifigPak subscriber? Let me know what you thought of the February edition in the comments section!
