LEGO announces German National Football Team Minifigure Series

LEGO Minifigures Special Series - German National Football Team

Update: Check out my review of the LEGO German Football team minifigs!

Yesterday, LEGO and the DFB announced a special minifigure series – the German National Football (or soccer for Australians/Americans) Team. The special minifigure series is made to tie in with the upcoming Euro 2016 Championships (basically, a World Cup for European nations) and will feature the current German national squad (and coach Joachim Löw) as LEGO Minifigures.

They’re pretty similar to 2012’s Team GB Minifigure Series which was produced to commemorate the London Olympics.

Unfortunately for LEGO fans, the blind bags will only be sold in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (all German-speaking nations) and will retail for €2.99 with a release date of 14 May 2016. Each minifigure (except for Joachim Löw) will come with a football and a minifig base plate and will be sold in blind bags as per usual. Joachim Löw will come with a clipboard 2 x 2 tile that has a tactical diagram on it.

UPDATE: Brickset have reported that the German Football Minifigs have started to sell at LEGO stores in the UK. Get in quick!

Here’s a diagram with the lineup of players.

  • 1 – Manuel Neuer
  • 2 – Shkodran Mustafi
  • 3 – Mesut Özil
  • 4 – Benedikt Höwedes
  • 5 – Mats Hummels
  • 6 – Sami Khedira
  • 7 – Bastian Schweinsteiger  (captain)
  • 9 – André Schürrle
  • 13 – Thomas Müller
  • 17 – Jérôme Boateng
  • 18 – Toni Kroos
  • 19 – Mario Götze
  • 20 – Christoph Kramer
  • 21 – Marco Reus
  • 23 – Max Kruse
  • Joachim Löw (coach)

I’m a massive football fan, so I absolutely will be picking at least a set of these up. I’m especially excited about owning a minifigure Schweinstiger as he’s one of my favourite German players of all time and also plays for the club that I support, Manchester United.

I also really like the facial expressions, different coloured hairpieces and all the new hairstyles. I’m especially looking forward to a whole bunch of new skin tones which will be extremely useful to add to LEGO’s growing multicultural pallete.

Now, this will possibly be the hardest Minifigure Series to feel for as apart from the hairpieces, there are no defining features to feel for. Unless your fingertips can feel through different colours inside the bag… you’re just going to have to pray that you’re lucky to get the minifig that you want.

The German Football Team minifigure series was unveiled yesterday via a charming stop-motion press conference. You can watch the announcement video here.

LEGO Minifigures Special Series - German National Football Team Back Printing

The printing for the minifigs look great, and though they all have the same jersey designs, each minifigure has their names and squad numbers printed on the back.

It’s a shame that these won’t be sold outside of Germany, Austria and Switzerland so if you’re a completionist you’re most likely going to pick up a set from Bricklink, eBay or any other online marketplace. German Bricklink stores are absolutely going to make a killing from these.

If you’re Australian, I’ve received word that I’m Rick James Bricks might be getting a few sets in. It’s not confirmed at this moment and I don’t know how much it’ll cost but you can subscribe to his newsletter to find out when he gets them in. Fingers crossed that they’ll be at a decent price!

So there you go! What do you think of the German Football Minifigure Series? Take the poll below and let me know what you think in the comments!

Where will thes be sold in the US?? I REALLY like the german national team, aswell as FC Bayern. (My fav teams) a notice would be VERY much appretiated.

  2. Peter says:

Does anyone knows where to buy this set in Germany? Can I find it in lego stores in Cologne/Frankfurt/Dresden? Thanks for answering!!

    • Jesper says:

This set has been sold out the last 3 weeks in all German Toy store so you cant buy it in the shops anymore. Lego has also stated they won’t get new supplies.

Best thing you can do is to buy an unbroken box which contains 3 sets in total plus 12 extra figs.

eBay or bricklink are the sales channels I use to sell these set just FYI. 😉

    • Jay says:

You can try, but from what I’ve heard online, they’re probably all sold out by now. If you’re heading there, good luck finding them!

  3. john says:

Will lego make the others team ? or this will be one and only national football team minifigure ?what do you think ?

  4. Tom says:

I live in the UK and got an Austrian friend to buy me a set. When I opened them the last one that I opened (Neuer the GK) has deformed hair. I collect minifigures and I’ve never seen this before. I’ve contacted Lego, hopefully they’ll replace it for me. Love the blog btw Jay!

    • Jay says:

Oh yikes! Must’ve gotten damaged during manufacturing. I’ve heard of defects with Collectible Minifigs but have never encountered one personally. Fingers crossed they do! At the very least, his hair is pretty generic, so it should be easy to replace!

  5. jess says:

I could send Sets to overseas. I am from Germany. But the Sets are sold for 120 Euro excluding shipping.

  6. Peter says:

Will u post overseas and if so how much 🙂

  7. Fred says:

Three of the players don’t go to the Euros. And Höwedes has too much hair.

  8. Ben says:

Hi i want to buy for my cousin birthday’s gift, where can i buy whole set of lego German national football team in Germany ?
any address or website can share with me?
because i will travel to Germany on this weekend
    thanks you for your help

    • Jesper says:

In the Stores in Germany they were sold out already on Saturday so you wont find them in any Shops. You might want to find a Person in Germany who has the Set which City will you visit?

  9. Jesper says:

Thanks Jay very nice of you if anyone are interested in the DFB Team I could help you I wont charge you a million dollars but I would like a fair price.

I can ship them for 8 Euros to USA but freight will then take around 30 days. To Australia I have no idea about the costs but I can find out.

I have two sets to offer but I don’t want to sell 2 to the same person since I’d rather have more than one Lego fan who’s happy and I also would like interest from someone who doesn’t wanna break down the set in pieces.

If anyone’s interested feel free to comment what you would be willing to give right now, they are being sold for around 119-129 Euros worldwide this is without shipping costs calculated.

Since its Jays site he would have first mover on a set first please I’m not forced to sell quick since prices only will go up as the championship starts in a month.

I hope no one will be angry at me for posting the two sets I have but came across the site and it seamed like you would have interest in the set.

    Kind regards

    Jesper

  10. Kez says:

You can buy these right now from UK Lego stores. Limited to 16.

  11. Vei Ni says:

how to order and ship to address in Germany?

  12. Chi Wai says:

How can I get it in UK? Any website I can buy that online?

  13. Kenny says:

I’m a germany fans, I’m interested with all the minifig how am I going to get them all? I’m staying at australia?

  14. Joe says:

How can we get it in Singapore?

  15. Warmongurl says:

Honestly, I’m not very excited about this series, though I did watch the World Cup game where Germany beat Argentina and I’m curious how many of those players are on this team…..

    • Jay says:

Most of them are still in the team! The only notable omissions would be Phillip Lahm (the world cup winning captain) and Miroslav Klose (top goalscorer of all time) who both retired!

  16. Mark says:

Cool printing and hairpieces. These are going to be a ton more desirable for fans and collectors outside of the home nation compared to the team GB minifigs. It is the world game after all. So much for TLG trying to control exclusitivity, the limited geographic availability combined with blind bags will drive second hand market prices big time!

    • Jay says:

Yeah… I do wonder why they didn’t just do a Euro version with players from all the different nations. I guess it was much easier to secure the German Team license.

Oh well, one of those classic cases where resellers will be laughing their way to the bank.

  17. I think you mean Austria in the distribution, not Australia as written a few times.

  18. Peter says:

Hey can you confirm Australia is actually getting them and not Austria? Cheers

  19. Duncan says:

I wish there would be an easy way to get a few of those. I really like all the different skin tones and hair colors.

Guess I should freak out about the Disney Minifigure instead.
