LEGO unveils the stunning 42056 Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS

LEGO Technic 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Automotive and supercar fans are in for one heck of a thrill ride as LEGO lifts the lid off one of its hottest releases this year – the LEGO Technic 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. LEGO has had an illustrious history bringing some of the greatest 4-wheeled machines to life but never before at this scale.

Developed closely together with Porsche AG, the LEGO version of the Porsche 911 embodies the design, performance, and functionality from the legendary 911 family.

When photos of the Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS hit my inbox, I was lost for words. Check out that gorgeous lava orange bodywork, sleek curves, adjustable rear spoiler and most importantly, faithful re-creation of one of the most iconic Porsches ever.

As you can see above, the Porsche 911 GT3 comes in a luxurious black box and fans will also be delighted by the inclusion of a full-colour collector’s book with exclusive background information on the development of the model, history of LEGO® Technic and Porsche GT cars. Furthermore, the elements of the individual assembly groups are packed in separate boxes for the first time and, together with the detailed instructions, provide an insight into the assembly process of the actual vehicle.

LEGO Technic 42056 Porsche 911 - Engine and Seat Details

Both the performance and the sportiness of the original have been realistically reproduced in various technical features on the LEGO model. One particular highlight is the fully functional Porsche double-clutch transmission with four gears and gearshift paddles on the steering wheel. But all technically minded LEGO fans will especially love building and playing with the six-cylinder boxer engine with moving pistons underneath the rear lid.

Unique laser-printed serial number

In addition to the technical features, the interior of the model is also authentic and close to the original. A detailed dashboard, a steering wheel with gearshift paddles, racing seats, and a glove compartment concealing a unique serial number can all be found in the easily accessible cockpit. Using this serial number, additional exclusive content can also be released from June 1st 2016 by following www.lego.com/technic.

The image above is a sticker…but Andrew did mention that it was laser printed in the video.

Other features include authentically designed aerodynamic bodywork, adjustable rear spoiler, headlights and taillights, red suspension springs, original-design rims with RS emblem, detailed brake calipers, low-profile tires, working gearbox, working steering wheel with gearshift paddles, detailed seating, glove compartment with unique model serial number, opening doors, opening hood containing a suitcase, and an opening rear lid with detailed flat 6 engine.

Check out the designer video below. I just watched this video and I am 100% sold. This is such a brilliant set and LEGO have really raised the bar here.

Edit: Seems like the video got pulled. I managed to grab some screenshots which you can see littered through the post.

Lego-Technic-Porsche-911 German Toy Fair

So there you have it, the LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS in all its glory. It’s been heavily anticipated since it was teased at the Germany Toy Fair, and I can safely say that its lived up to the hype.

I’m not a massive Technic Fan but I’d love to own this set as it looks incredible on display. It just oozes class, raw speed and pure exhilaration that it’s going to be hard to say no to it. Unfortunately, it won’t be remote controlled which is a bit of a bummer and the price is definitely on the higher end of sets…but hey, it’s a Porsche and a damn fine looking one at that.

Let me know what you think of this set in the comments and if any of you are particularly excited about the Technic Porsche 911!

Love the car, but too bad it is a Porsche. Let me explain why: Lego is up to its ass in legal documents with Porsche on this, resulting in over expensive box and really weird stuff hapening on Pick-n-brick.
You can buy all bricks you need on lego.com if you already have most of the bricks, EXCEPT THE RIMS.
Because of license. Lego, stop this nonsense and build your own supercar again.
Rather have no Porsche on it and normal brick ordering procedures, than this crap. Don’t fail me again next year.

    • Jay says:

Well to be fair, they did say that the Porsche rims were made exclusively for this set to maintain its authenticity. The rims are definitely one of its main selling points.

  3. warren says:

Yes it would be a great Set Only problem is when lego brings out new technic set like this the Price heads for the SKY.. What a RipOFF Price the Yanks get to pay 299, while we have BlackMail price at 500 plus, Such a Shame.

    • Jay says:

I think the price is fine. I don’t believe in comparing to US prices because they’re an outlier. When you compare against Euro/UK pricing, we’re not that far off.

  4. Michael says:

I’m a bit worried that $300US now means $500AU. For instance, the Classic batcave was $270US and $400AU.

I probably won’t get this (bit rich for me), but I’m hoping the $99US for the Spiderman Bridge stays around the $140AU that the Fortrex costs – I want 2 after all!

  5. Ross says:

Ha! what sucks is for me to buy this I have to buy my wife a new purse

  6. Mark says:

I just saw the designer video. They have certainly taken it to another level with the premium finish and presentation on the packaging and manual….that thing is huge! Coincidently the latest issue of the Aussie ‘Wheels’ magazine has a head to head review of a Lava Orange GT3 RS vs. a Cayman GT4. Sadly for the GT3 it was a DNF and ended in a cloud of smoke due to a mechanical fault.

    • Jay says:

Yeah, definitely think the price will hit $500 here in Aus – anything less and I will be pleasantly surprised.

At first I kinda baulked at the set’s high pricetag, but after watching the designer video, I think it’s fully justified. The entire thing just screams “premium collectible”! AU$500 will be a steal when it retires and its price inevitably spikes… like what the 4 x 4 Crawler costs now.

I’m not a massive Technic fan, but if LEGO were to offer a review copy, I would definitely say yes to check it out. I got my fingers crossed!

  7. Monty says:

Orange… hmmm – since seeing it revealed at the Toy Fair in Germany, I have been wanting this set. So, the colour will just have to grow on me ! It’s too awesome to not have 🙂

  8. Mark says:

Holy Moly! I’ve never viewed technic sets as things of beauty but that is gorgeous! A game changer for sure. Hell, I just want the box! I’m going to guess $500 AUD will be the asking price for this bad boy(‘s toy). Is the “unique model serial number” truly unique ie. different for every set? If so they have played it smart there as it will ‘drive’ up the collect-ability. I hope TLG are kind enough to send you a copy for review Jay. There is a large and loyal motorsport community here…hint hint ; )

    • Frank says:

It’s really annoying though, like $500 for a set that, in the US costs $300 USD ~= $390 AUD… I mean, even for shipping costs and so on, it’s almost 30% more expensive… Why???

      • abe francis says:

Sales tax is added at the till in the US, unlike here where it is embedded in the sticker price. Also the US pays less for most things because capitalism. Thats starting to change though.

      • Jay says:

Do remember that the US$300 price does not include their sales tax, which varies by state.

With pricing… I don’t think its fair to compare against the US as in many cases (not just LEGO), they seem to be the exception to the rule. When you compare the UK pricing (250 GBP) or Euro pricing (approx 300 EUR), our Australian price doesn’t seem too bad. Our dollar is also quite weak at the moment, which may make the disparity look a lot larger. LEGO is a business, so I’m sure they’re basing their prices off their own currency modelling.

There are some sites that are incredibly overpriced here in Australia, but for what you get in the Porsche, I don’t think this is one of them.

        • Bart M says:

We don’t pay sales tax in the US when purchasing online unless the company that is selling the product has a warehouse in the same state. I’d say 99% of the website’s out there, do not charge sales tax for any state. Just an FYI.
