Is this LEGO 40161 a new “Guess Who” type game?

LEGO 40161 Guess The Minifigure Game

Someone forwarded me this image on Facebook, which seems to be a shot of a new game. Found in an Italian LEGO Store, LEGO 40161 seems to a “Guess the Minifigure“-type game, loosely based on the popular Guess Who? board game.

Update: CM4Sci has said that the official name of this set is 40161 What Am I

Update: Reader Branko has kindly sent us some more photos of What Am I. Looks like you get about 16 minifigures in this set, plus a couple of smaller builds! They’re on sale at Legoland Billund at the moment.

No idea on pricing, or release date but it does look incredibly legit since it’s on the shelves of a LEGO store. It looks like a pretty fun game for younger kids, and with the potential of using your own minifigure collection to mix things up, should provide plenty of replay value.

I expect this set to be released in the second half of 2016, which is approaching very very soon!

  4. Branko says:

Yes correct, there are minifigs, things and creatures (12 altogether). It is available at LEGOland in Billund for dkk449 which is close to AU$90

What am I ? Does that imply it’s not just ‘human’ minifigs? Guess Who? was popular in the 80’s but was criticized for not being diverse enough. Lego may put themselves in a situation where they are damned if they do, damned if they don’t. Make the characters too generic…yellow heads, black eyes, etc and they are criticized for lack of diversity. Differentiate them by skin colour, etc and they will be criticized for encouraging kids to make choices based on superficial racial differences. I don’t really see the point, even the pic of the kids on the box looks ‘dated’.

True, but I think LEGO have quite a diverse lineup of minifigs that it shouldn’t be a problem. I’m looking forward to it being customizable. Like you could put together a superhero themed game.
