Official release details and photos of LEGO 10253 Big Ben

LEGO 10253 Big Ben - Box FrontI’ll get straight to the point:

LEGO 10253 Creator Expert Big Ben!

4163 pieces!!

And the best part is the LEGO Big Ben’s price – $249.99 in the US, £169.99 in the UK and $349.99 in Australia!!!

Damn right we’re gonna celebrate the price with fireworks

The LEGO God have smiled upon us all. What a glorious model, announcement and most of all, at such an incredible price point.

LEGO today unveiled the very first new Creator Expert set of 2016 – 10253 Big Ben. The super-sized LEGO version of the world’s most recognizable clock tower follows other iconic sets such as the Tower Bridge and Sydney Opera House in the world landmark Creator subtheme.

The Big Ben towers over all other LEGO models at 23” (60cm) high and features a detailed facade built using LEGO statues, shields and windows. The clock tower sports 4 adjustable clock dials and even a removable roof, allowing access to the belfry.

The LEGO Big Ben’s general release date is 1 July 2016, but LEGO VIP members will get Early Access to the set on 15 June 2016. It will be sold through the usual channels, LEGO.com or in LEGO stores.

The Australian retail release date will be in October 2016. Here are the direct links to LEGO.com:

Did you know that the Big Ben is actually the name of the bell inside the bell tower and not the name of the tower or the complex itself? The tower is called the Elizabeth Tower and the entire complex is called the Palace of the Westminster which houses the British Parliament.

Did you also know that there’s a Big Ben Twitter account that you can follow which rings every hour?

LEGO 10253 Big Ben - Clockface

Special elements created exclusively for this set are the 4 printed clock faces with awesome looking roman numerals.

LEGO 10253 Big Ben - Adjust Clock

The hour and minute hands are adjustable via a smaller clock knob that’s built into the back of the model.

LEGO 10253 Big Ben - Facade Details

The facade makes very cool uses of tan LEGO statues, plenty of tinted trans-elements, and a whole bunch of pearl gold ski poles.

Be sure to check out the designer video to get some additional perspective on the set and have designer Jamie Berard give you a tour of the model!

I’m pretty damn impressed by how well LEGO have pulled designing the Big Ben. It looks absolutely immense, and should make a great display piece to impress your guests, family members and pets.

I do not own the Tower Bridge, but the Opera House is on my wishlist (amongst many other things) and I’d be very keen on getting my hands on this set. The Big Ben is such a recognizable English landmark and I think that LEGO have done the landmark a lot of justice with this model.

The absolutely best thing about the set is the price. US$250/AU$350 for 4163 pieces is INSANE value, putting this set into the reach of plenty of LEGO fans. With no minifigures or expensive license fees, I’m glad that LEGO was able to keep the price to achievable for the most of us.

It’s better than buying the slave 1 wich i have bought before it’s the same price in the uk so i will buy this and get 2 × more pieces than the slave 1

  6. FinnFox says:

Absolutli awesome. one of few new lego sets that must have.

  7. anthony says:

    WOW, a definite buy.

  8. Mark says:

Wow! It looks amazing and so is the price. It’s cool that they scaled it to the Tower Bridge and I can forsee a spike in sales of that set. I’ll be interested to see what you say about the build process itself as it looks very repetitive. I suspect that due to the large numbers of same elements (and low price) it will be popular with people parting it out. I didn’t notice the back of the model in the designer video, I hope it’s at least “finished off” unlike the rear of Ghostbusters HQ.

    • Jay says:

Yeah, I think the Tower Bridge is bound for retirement very soon, so get in quick!

I think with large architectural sets, the repetition is almost unavoidable. The back definitely looks more complete, so it looks good from all angles.

    • L.A. says:

Sorry to dissapiont you all,if you are buying this model for allaround display forget it. As the back is basicly plain. You will have to buy two models to complete. Apart from that it’s still good value just for the parts alone. Due to silly pricing on some Lego parts sites[Not conected with the lego company].

  9. Julian says:

I initially scrolled down to your pictures with trepidation as I didn’t want to be disappointed with what the set looked like…..

It looks absolutely jaw droppingly fantastic.

Looks like Lego is going to keep burning a hole in my wallet this year, what with the imminent release of the Porsche set as well.

  10. Andrés says:

This is going to be my next set! Hopefully they’ll hear me and their next big set is a greenhouse full of tropical plants and flowers such as the palm houses of Laeken or kew cristal palace…

    • Jay says:

Wow, that would be amazing. I’m a big fan of LEGO foliage so a greenhouse or some sort of Botanic Gardens would sit very well in my book.

  11. Warmongurl says:

Wow! With that many pieces and the price point, it’s worth buying it just for the pieces. Though the design is so amazing that I’d certainly have to display it for awhile. And at 4000+ pieces the build would be so fun!!!

  12. Kelvin says:

Very very cool set. Looks extremely details. But one thing I have to say for this kind of set is basically just keep repeating repeating repeating when u r building. So I dun think I can really enjoy the process. BUT Lego has done a really good job. This looks awesome.
    This is my own opinion=]

    • Jay says:

Yeah, plenty of repetition which is to be expected with large architectural sets like this. I doubt there’ll be as many tiny pieces as the Tower Bridge! I’ve heard that was a nightmare!

  13. Duncan says:

Wow, I wish I had the budget to buy that…

So many cool parts and a seemingly low price per part ratio.

    I want it!

  14. Mike G says:

Oh man that is amazing. With heaps of pricey sets coming out it’s so refreshing to have one so value packed. Can’t wait to get this.
