Your next LEGO Ideas sets are The Beatles Yellow Submarine and Apollo 11 Saturn V!

A flurry of LEGO news today as alongside the LEGO Dimensions Phase 2 reveal, we get another huge surprise from the LEGO Ideas team. They’ve announced the results of the third 2015 review…and out of all the projects that were reviewed, the winners are:

LEGO Ideas - The Beatles Yellow Submarine

The Beatles Yellow Submarine project by Kevin Szeto! Complete with minifigure versions of the ultimate boyband of all time, The Beatles Yellow Submarine is bound to be a huge hit for LEGO. I am frankly astounded that this one made it through, especially since we’re going to get an official Beatles and LEGO collaboration. Definitely didn’t see this one coming, but very glad nonetheless.

LEGO Ideas - The Beatles Minifigures

And yes, I would love to have LEGO Minifigure versions of George Harrison, Paul McCartney, John Lennon and Ringo Starr. LEGO Yoko Ono sadly not included in this lineup.

LEGO Ideas - Apollo 11 Saturn V

As if that wasn’t exciting enough – the LEGO Ideas Third 2015 results has not one but TWO successful projects. The Apollo 11 Saturn V designed by saabfan and whatsuptoday has also made the cut and will be turned into a LEGO set. The Saturn V rocket will also apparently stand at one metre tall, so I’m guessing that this is going to be quite a massive Ideas set.

The size of it has definitely piqued my curiosity (not the Mars rover) and I can’t wait to see how LEGO pulls this one off.

There are no firm details on the final product design, availability and pricing for The Beatles Yellow Submarine or the Apollo 11 Saturn V set. Watch this space to find out more soon.

LEGO Ideas 2016 Review

The LEGO Ideas team have also shared projects that are in consideration for the next review results, which should be announced sometime in Fall (Northern Hemisphere) or Spring for us antipodeans.

Wow, two huge announcements in one day.

I’m excited to see Lego’s final design for the Saturn V rocket. It’s such an important rocket in the history of space travel and deserves to be replicated in Lego. I’m guessing it will make an amazing display item.

  2. Jamie says:

I really hope BB8, the jedi high council and the jurassic park building make the cut

I’m really unsure about the next round. I’d love to see the particle accelerator, although my bet is on the dark horse – the Old Fishing Store!

  3. Michael says:

So, so excited for the Yellow Submarine. They can have a band face-off with my K-Nex KISS set 🙂

  4. John Killgallon says:

Hi Jay does this mean other “ideas” that had 10,000 supporters around the same time won’t becoming sets, specifically the Toyota FJ40 set. I’ve noticed it is no longer under review on the website?
Was super keen to pick that up as I’m sure so were others as it 10k pretty quickly.
Keep up the great work on your blog.

Unfortunately it looks like that one was not selected – I saw an image confirming as such.

    • Jay says:

Yeah, those didn’t make the cut. The Toyota was really cool, but maybe they couldn’t come to an agreement for the license.

      Thanks for your support!

  5. Shan says:

I’m disappointed that they didn’t select Darwin’s Voyages. I was looking forward to a new ship design that wasn’t based on pirates.

  6. Mark says:

I’m amazed too that Lego managed to strike a licensing deal with the Beatles. That is going to be one popular set purely for the minifigs. I don’t really have any connection to the Apollo 11 Saturn V rocket but the size alone is impressive if Lego keep the same scale. Personally I more looking forward to the next two rounds of review…there are some awesome sets in the running!
