LEGO BrickHeadz Series 1 Revealed!

Update: I’ve finished my review of the Marvel Brickheadz – go check it out if you want to see what I thought of it!

Earlier today, the official photos of BrickHeadz were uploaded to LEGO’s servers, giving us our very first look at this brand new theme that’s slated for a February release date. These peculiar looking Chibi-esque statuettes is LEGO’s newest theme, that looks to take on Funko’s massive empire of Pop Vinyls.

First unveiled at Comic Con last year, these BrickHeadz (I kinda hate the name, especially the “z”) look like a lot of fun and is going to be kryptonite for people like me who love LEGO Super Heroes.

UPDATE: The general release date for Brickheadz will be 1 March 2017, however LEGO VIP members will get early access to the sets on 15 February 2017.

UPDATE 2: LEGO Brickheadz Series 1 has gone on sale for LEGO VIPs – check them out on the LEGO online store. Be sure to be logged into your LEGO VIP account!

The pricing for Brickheadz is also a lot better than expected: US $9.99 – CA $12.99 – DE 9.99€ – UK £9.99 – AU $15.99

I had predicted that these would go on sale for AU$18, so I’m quite pleased with the Australian pricing. That definitely increases the chance of me picking a bunch up on launch.

Oh, the official press release also alludes to the fact that Brickheadz will extend beyond Super Heroes as the theme will feature “fun and stylized versions of iconic characters from your favorite movies, TV series, games and comics“.

Update: LEGO has also announced Belle and Beast, which ties into the upcoming Beauty and the Beast live action movie!

LEGO 41592 Hulk – 93 pieces

Buy from LEGO.com:

LEGO is looking to turn these into their very own empire, with the first 10 BrickHeadzes labelled as “Series 1, which means that we’re potentially going to see plenty of these models throughout the year, following the footsteps of LEGO’s acclaimed Minifigure Series, and Star wars Microfighters.

Brickheadz Series 1 will include 4 DC Comics characters from The LEGO Batman Movie, and 4 Marvel characters from The Avengers. Representing The LEGO Batman Movie, we have Batman, Robin, The Joker and Batgirl, and on the Marvel side, we have Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow and The Hulk.

LEGO 41590 Iron Man – 96 pieces

41589 Captain America – 79 pieces

41591 Black Widow – 143 pieces

I’m not a particularly big fan of Funko Pops (although I have a few), but I’m really in love with these BrickHeadz. A very encouraging sign is that it looks like we’re getting plenty of printed pieces which is a dream come true for sticker haters, and the designs of these are quite adorable and clever.

For Funko fans, it’s a no-brainer, and these will no doubt appeal to them the most. I do think that the blocky, almost pixelated look of these BlockHeadz go very well and complement the existing Funko Pops, and they’ll be able to co-exist together in harmony.

41588 Joker – 151 pieces

41586 Batgirl – 99 pieces

41587 Robin – 101 pieces

41585 Batman – 91 pieces

41595 Belle – 139 pieces

41596 Beast – 116 pieces

Of course, the only question is the price and availability of these sets. I do think that LEGO are going to have to price these competitively to go up against Pop Vinyls, which can be had for under AU$20. My prediction? These sets are going to cost AU$18 each. Or maybe AU$20.

Looks like I was wrong! These sets will retail for AU$15.99!

So what do you guys think of these BrickHeadz? Love them or hate them, let me know in the comments!

    Hi Jay.
I can’t find anywhere the date for when Aus will get Jack Sparrow Brickheadz. Do you know when they come out in stores?
    Please and thank you! 🙂

    • Jay says:

Hey Ashleigh, the Pirates of the Carribbean Brickheadz is already for sale in the Dreamworld LEGO Store and Melbourne Legoland Discovery Centre Shop. They’ll get a wider release in July!

  2. Harv says:

I will definitely get captain America and iron man. I don’t know why the hulk is from age of ultranationalist and the rest are from captain America civil war

    • Jay says:

I guess that’s because Hulk was last seen in Age of Ultron, hence the license is derived from that movie, whereas everyone else was in Civil War recently?

  3. craig Jennings says:

Thanks so it will be 10 to collect in this series?

  4. craig Jennings says:

How many Brickheadz are in this first series (8) as I have seen ten of them listed on lego store site? Thanks

  5. Matt Merrill says:

These look interesting, but I’ll probably have to give them a “pass”. I mostly focus on minifigs and small sets my boy and I can play with.

As a side note, the Batman Movie minifig line has shown up out here, and I am already WAY over the Joker with the sharp teeth, I hope that doesn’t continue to be their “go to” Joker, but I see he’s made his way into this series… 🙁

    • Jay says:

Ah yeah. These are definitely not very playable, but LEGO are using this to target older collectors.

Nah, I don’t think they’ll be the go-to joker. With so much marketing and resourced poured into the LEGO Batman Movie, it’s no surprise that he’s currently front and center of everything.

  6. Warmongurl says:

Not a fan, I’ll stick to minifigures and Star Wars microfighters. Found my first Lego the Batman Movie minifigures yesterday, quite exciting! Vacation Batman is going on my work desk for sure 🙂

    • Jay says:

Oh nice! Yeah, these aren’t for everybody – LEGO are definitely using these Brickheadz to draw more people into LEGO. Nice work snagging Vacation Batman!

  7. TroupplePie says:

The concept is great, but I’ll be disappointed if BrickHeadz focuses entirely on superheroes

    • Jay says:

Seeing as how Funko have absolutely dominated everything pop culture related, I wouldn’t be surprised if LEGO eventually extend these to Star Wars and other licenses down the line.

      • Kayla says:

I would love a Star Wars one of these. I’m t would be absolutely adorable to have a bobble head like Han or somebody on my desk.

        • Jay says:

I think it’ll definitely happen seeing how LEGO and Disney have such a great relationship. It’s only a matter of time.

I also foresee a lot of licenses from LEGO Dimensions that would look great as Brickheadz!

  8. Karrakazul says:

Not a fan of brick built figures and the like so a miss for me, happy with the minifigs. Can see them maybe being popular with folks who aren’t the biggest fans of LEGO, but are fans of the heroes.

    • Jay says:

Yeah, it’s a really smart play from LEGO. Like minifigures, it looks like they’re using BrickHeadz to draw people into LEGO, especially the massive Pop Vinyl fanbase. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.

  9. Hammerdragon says:

Very un-inspiring to be honest. Wish they’d stuck with the Mixels.

    • Jen says:

Are they getting rid of Mixels?

      • Grasshopper says:

        Sadly yes. :/
Series 9 was the final one to come out.
It’s a real shame as the construction on them had improved tremendously over the series.
And they were the first toy that was actually my son’s toy. Not something I got him into but something he loved himself.
Fortunately, unknown to him we have every figure released hidden in the closet (he got into them in series 5), so Santa and the Tooth Fairy can get him little surprises that he cannot understand how they can keep getting them (he’s 5).

        • Jen says:

That’s a shame. We’ve never seen the cartoon but my son (who’s 4) has a couple of the sets. The amount of pieces compared to the minifigures for similar price makes them good value. Like you, I have a few sets put away for future gifts / rewards. We’ve also added them to presents for others and they have been well received.

    • Jay says:

Yeah, it’s a bummer they ended Mixels. But the deal with Cartoon Network ran out, so it was always going to happen.

    • Kayla says:

Yeah, I’m a bit bummed they got rid of mixels, but (as far as I know) that stopped making the *fully articulated* ones. I liked those a lot. I had like four storm troopers and a lot of the other ones too.

  10. Jay Lane says:

I think they look amazing and I can’t wait until they come out. I’m going to have to get a second job to pay for my LEGO addiction…

  11. I do like them, but with 79 to 151 pieces, how are they going to price these, surely not a different price each?

    • Jay says:

My guess is that the pricing is going to be consistent, if not they’ll be too confusing. The piece disparity is also pretty minor, since it looks like they’re made up of very basic parts like plates, tiles and studs.

  12. BatZack says:

Massive fan of Pop Vinyls, so i love these bad boys. Not sure if I’ll get them straight up, but I definitely love the look of them and respect the concept

  13. Wt says:

Never got into vinyl pop things and they just look silly to me. As you say I’m sure they will sell very well since the vinyl pop figures are in stores everywhere.

Skip for me no interest at all.

If they have some useful parts I may reconsider during a sale?

    • Jay says:

The parts seem pretty basic and the only interesting ones are the printed tiles, which might be hard to repurpose. Just hoping the price isn’t too prohibitive!
