Shiver me timbers! Here’s LEGO 71042 The Silent Mary from POTC: Dead Man Tell No Tales

Yahoo Movies has just unveiled the much-anticipated new 2017 LEGO Pirate Ship, 71042 The Silent Mary from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales.

The Silent Mary is the Ghost Ship belonging to Salazar, the ghastly villain from Dead Man Tell No Tales played by the mercurial Javier Bardem. Unveiled at the New York Toy Fair, The Silent Mary comes in at a very respectable 2,200 pieces and will cost US$199.99 with a release date of 1 April 2017. There will be a VIP early access on 15 March.

Update 2: The Australian and UK price of The Silent Mary has been revealed. Honestly, not as bad as I thought for a set this large. I mean, it’s almost 70cm long and 50cm tall, so this is not a tiny ship in the slightest!

Update: The product page for 71042 Silent Mary has gone live for the US.

Here are the direct links to buy The Silent Mary when it gets released.

The ship looks to feature an incredible amount of detail, and I’m loving the skeletal frame of The Silent Mary. It features a hinged bow section, opening skeleton hull with decay and destruction detailing, movable rudder, collapsible main mast and two further masts, long bowsprit with crow’s nest and mast, tattered sails, detailed quarterdeck, plus a rowboat with two oars and an array of weapons and accessory elements.

As you can see in this photo, the skeletal hull of The Silent Mary can gape open, possibly to consume other ships.

71042 The Silent Mary comes with eight minifigures Captain Jack Sparrow, Henry, Carina, Lieutenant Lesaro, Captain Salazar, Officer Magda, Officer Santos and the Silent Mary Masthead.

I love Pirate Ships and cannot wait for this set. It’s such a unique take on the classic Pirate Ship look and with so much buzz being generated by the excellent movie trailer, I fully expect The Silent Mary to be one of the standout sets of 2017.

Are you as excited as I am about The Silent Mary? Let me know what you think in the comments!

I bought this ship on the early release and it is my first ship,i will say i am very satisfied with it, i have a huge collection of star wars sets and when i saw this i decided to start on pirate ships and i have since been looking for more to come and haven’t found any and all the discontinued sets are at ridiculous prices.

    Amazing model, can’t wait.
I am however surprised that this seems to be the only tie in besides the brick heads (which do not count). A few more pirate-related sets would be much appreciated…

I think there’ll be more. It feels kind of weird to not have Orlando Bloom or Geoffrey Rush’s character, given their importance to the whole franchise. I would be very surprised if we didn’t have some smaller sets to go along with The Silent Mary.

  3. Michael says:

I too really wanted a normal pirate ship – might give this one a pass.

However, I love the captain Jack Brickheadz. Apart from how awesome it looks, one of the printed sash pieces looks like a big piece of bacon to me, which would work well with my MOCs.

  4. Michael says:

I think this looks incredible and full of character – it strikes me as one of those “once in a lifetime” type of sets which is unlikely to be ever reproduced – I can’t see Lego doing a full on ghost ship very often. The Aussie price has to be $300, right? Do we have any idea when double-VIP is happening?

    • Jay says:

Yup, agreed. I mean, I’ll always hope for a proper Flying Dutchman ship, but this seems like a good compromise. I think it’ll be about AU$350, going by recent price hikes. I will be pleasantly surprised if its any less.

No idea on Double VIP – I imagine it’ll be sometime around Easter?

  5. Jon says:

Look cool but would have liked it to come with a ship hull ….. May have to re build it with one

  6. Kay says:

I got back in the game late so this is the first big pirate ship I can actually get at rrp. Pretty excited about it. Was hoping for a conventional ship but this one will still sit nicely with the others with its own unique look.

I like how it can fold with hinges. Will be a must buy for me.

    • Jay says:

I’m busy trying to catch up on my classic Pirate Ships – I only just managed to complete my POTC pirate ships last year, so I’m super stoked for this one. I’m very tempted to start rebuilding my Pirate Ships in anticipation for the launch. I don’t usually buy D2C sets during the VIP preview, but I think I might make an exception for this one.

  7. Monty says:

I collect ships – this is definitely not what I was hoping for – this would be better at a lower price tag. I was so hoping for something more along the lines of 10210. Quite disappointed.

  8. Warmongurl says:

I’ve got mixed feelings actually. I was looking forward to a large pirate ship set, but though the skeletal look of the ship is unique and may look awesome on display, I’m not sure I care for it.

    • Jay says:

Yeah, there’s definitely been mixed feelings from fans who had wanted a more traditional Pirate Ship. Totally understandable, given that it’s been so long since our last decent ship – but the skeletal look is just so unique and bold. It also looks massive!

    • paul says:

      Totally agreed with your comment.

Surly a very unique and one of kind of ship but I doubt it looks great as display..

I wanted $250 large detailed black pearl but I guess It won’t happen :/

Oh nice! I’m about to build mine and can’t wait. You’re right about the older ships, because pirate ships are quite rare and are the subject of a lot of adult collector’s collection, it makes them very valuable. I’ve slowly been buying pirate ships over the years. You can sometimes find decent deals on eBay if you’re lucky!
