Meet the all new characters from LEGO Minifigures Series 17!

Courtesy of The Brick Show, we finally have our very first look at the upcoming LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 17 characters and box! Series 17, which has a release date of 1 May 2017 sees a return to the regular numbered series and features a colourful cast of awesome new minifigs.

Update: If you’d like to see more, check out my review of LEGO Minifigures Series 17!

Series 17 goes on sale worldwide on 1 May 2017, and will be available at most toy stores that stock LEGO. You can also buy them on LEGO.com via these links below. The price of each Series 17 blind bag has stayed the same as the LEGO Batman Movie series.

We’re back to the usual 16 characters to collect and Series 17 certainly looks like LEGO will have another smash hit on their hands. The one thing that me (and everyone else) is trying to figure out is the mystery minifigure in the top right corner of the character lineup.

He/she is blacked out and is the very same one that was teased in the LEGO Batman Movie Series manual. I really have no idea what this could mean – I doubt it’ll be another Mister Gold-type ultra-rare minifigure situation given, so my best, most educated guess I can give is that it’ll be a tie-in to some other property – possibly Pirates of the Caribbean?

Another guess is that it could be a regional minifigure exclusive (please LEGO, don’t do this) – it currently looks like a Highwayman or some sort of Bandit which is a rather American thing.

I don’t know, we’ll just have to wait and find out more when LEGO releases more information.

We also don’t have official names yet, so I’m gonna make them up:

  • Pro Surfer
  • Pastry Chef
  • Diner Waiter
  • Elvish Warrior
  • Macho Man
  • Dodgy Businessman
  • Vet
  • Parisian Man
  • Fairy Girl
  • Yet another Gladiator
  • Corn Suit Guy
  • Retro Spaceman
  • Jazzercise Fan
  • Dwarven Warrior
  • Rocket Boy
  • ???

I’m unbelievably hyped for this Series. Corn Suit Guy will be the obvious star of the set (with his impressive moustache), but I’m actually leaning towards Rocket Boy – his suit and the crudely drawn Classic Space flag is just so endearing.

Other characters that strike my fancy are the Parisian Man with his adorable French Bulldog, the Pastry Chef with the whisk and pie, the female Elvish Warrior, the Retro Spaceman with his awesome laser gun, and the Jazzercise girl.

LEGO Minifigures Series 17 is due out on 1 May worldwide, and I for one cannot wait for this series! I’m not that big a fan of the licensed Series and the core numbered Series have always been my first love.

So yeah, what do you think of the minifigures from Series 17! Let me know in the comments as well as your guesses on what the mystery minifigure will be!

I think a better name for corn suit guy Would be CORNEILIUS COB and my 8 year old grandsons agree … what do u all think

  2. Barry says:

Awful. No extra design on cornmans shirt or anything thumbs down

    • Jay says:

Eh, it’s mostly covered up by the costume, so I don’t think it’s a dealbreaker. That said,a corn logo on the torso would’ve been brilliant.

  3. Chris L says:

I managed to get 2x Rocket Boy, 2x Corn Suit Guy, 2x Fairy Girl. The were very easy to pick. Also got the Vet as I wanted the Bunny and also the Macho Man for the Dumbell and his Moustache :-).
The Rocket Boy is amazing, the pictures don’t do him justice. Likewise the Fairy Girl is gorgeous. I can see both of these selling out fast.

    • Jay says:

Oh very cool! I’m opening up my packets today! 🙂 Definitely going to hunt down tons of Rocket Boys!

      • Nancy says:

I stood in a store for a LONG time last night feeling Legos, took me forever to find Rocket boy!! Not that he’s hard to distinguish, just low volume, surprisingly I came across a LOT of corncob man and butterfly girl.

        • Jay says:

Yeah, only 3 in one box! And a lot of LEGO fans (me included) are trying to collect more of him. Corn Cob Guys are 5 ofs, so there’s plenty of him to go around!

  4. James says:

The corn suit guy is defiantly awesome!

  5. Tom says:

Is there a way a person can buy all mini figures without standing there feeling the bags or getting a lot of doubles

  6. stephen says:

the mystery is a all black pirate with dual pistols ( I just got today)

  7. This is a great series in my opinion. Obvious winner is the rocketboy! classic space torso in grey underneath YUS!

What I really like is the high detail and new parts, molds and colors.

So many highlights its tough not to like the figs even if they are just new surfers, chefs etc!

    Keep em coming TLC!

    • Jay says:

Yeah! The grey Classic Space torso underneath was such an awesome surprise!

Like you said, they’ve really up the game with the quality especially on the printing on this. Kinda makes the price hike slightly bearable.

  8. Adam says:

Already got them, the hot dog guy is the star

  9. They look fun this time around Great addition for Brick Island 🙂

  10. hey guys, I work at the Lego factory.
I would like to give you a hint about the new series. The mystery figure is the highway man. He is going to be hard to get in a poly bag.

    This message is from Denmark.

  11. ????☠ says:

    Hey guys, me again!

I looked up on safari, WHO IS THE MYSTERY FIGURE? It turns out to be a highway man! Has two pistols and and a black cape. Surprisingly, the round parts that stick out is actually a classic pirate hat from Lego pirates!

  12. The French figure with the bull dog looks like a mime because of his red tie and black n white print marks.

Do you think it could be another mime from series 3!?

  13. Mikhail says:

mystery guy is likely a Matador

  14. Sarah says:

Glad to see a nice selection of female characters that my daughter can relate to (she was very disappointed with the female bounty hunter in one of last year’s set–she “looked mean”.) While we have a few Friends and Elves sets, we tend to focus more on the City sets for daughter and son to play with together. I can see the pastry chef, the vet, the dance instructor, and maybe even the elf maiden fitting in to their little world. And Butterfly Girl, well, I think someone at Lego must also have a six-year-old daughter!

    • Jay says:

Yeah, this selection of female characters is pretty good in this series. Lots of really useful characters for civilian life. Butterfly Girl is bound to be a hit! She’ll make a great gift for friends with young daughters!

      • ????☠ says:

        Hey jay,

I am Leo (Lego fan). I collect Lego figs and I never miss one figure. With my parents, we feel bags and guess which figure is inside. Right now I have all figures from 12 to 16. I am looking forward for this series.

I thank you for details of when this series come out.

        • Jay says:

Hey Leo! Thanks for sharing your story! Hope you and your parents have gotten good with feeling for the minifigs!

Look out for my review once these go on sale!

  15. Phil says:

Hm… rocket boy looks like a copy of this guys design:

    https://www.flickr.com/photos/lemonution/27238964146/
    https://www.flickr.com/photos/lemonution/27411579663/

There’s not much difference apart from short legs and logo placement.

    • Jay says:

Ooooh.. I’ve never seen those designs before. Very interesting, although LEGO would have probably finalised these designs at least a year ago. I don’t feel there’s anything particularly malicious, but I can definitely see the resemblance.

  16. Dave says:

I think the mystery fig is going to be a bullfighter.

  17. Brett says:

Jay, hopefully you saw the photo with 14 Bunny Suit Guys:

    http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20051747/

Apologies to everyone for being off topic.

  18. Flash says:

When I search highwayman on the web I get this cowboy and it does not fit with the ? Body

  19. Flash says:

And I’m excited for the rocket boy and corn cob guy

  20. Flash says:

    What is a highway man

  21. mark says:

I assume that will have to build an army of elf maidens for my daughters elvendale castles.

  22. GH says:

Your comments always make me see the minifigs way better! Everything is so awesome!

  23. Warmongurl says:

I’m of course excited for Corn Suit guy and rocket boy. Next would be the female elven warrior (don’t own any female LOTR characters) and the retro space guy. Also really loving some of the accessories, like the chef’s whisk & pie, the vet’s bunny, the bulldog, and the diner drink. Nice diversity too with a couple child figures and several women.

    • Jay says:

I can’t wait to see her shield’s design! Her hairpiece with the Elven ears looks great as well – it looks like a brand new piece, which is super exciting!

      • mark says:

Anyhow, just have two remarks – wish that the elf maiden had some type of more “elvish” sword or spear, while the gladiator should come with a piece of net in order to be more close to trident fighters of Roman time.

  24. Those do look like Mickey ears, with the Disney link on Star Wars, OMG I hope not 🙁

  25. denise says:

the rabbit will be great in my modular pet shop as well as the french bulldog . the vet will be a great addition to a new moc that i will build along with alot of the other animals that have appeared in the previous series 🙂 roll on may 1st

  26. LEGOfanblue says:

Wow. Mixed feelings about this series. My favourite is rocket boy. Corn guy is pretty good also. The vet and French dude look quite boring but the animals make them likeable. Especially that adorable French bulldog. Rabbit is pretty good and it will be a nice addition to my zoo moc. The only others that catch my attention are the space guy, the chef, the hotdog vendor and maybe the weight lifter. The rest are pretty meh. I hope it’s not a highwayman and its something more interesting and useful honestly. Overall it’s ok.

    • Jay says:

I quite like the vet’s torso as well – there’s definitely a need for more minifigures in scrubs!

Totally get what you mean. The historical characters/army builder types are a little weak this time around. Which I guess is a good thing since I can save money and just focus on Corn Guys!

  27. Jonathan Wilson says:

There are reports over on Eurobricks that the black guy with the ? is not a limited or rare figure and that it is in fact a Highwayman.

Complete list of official names from Eurobricks: (or at least what are claimed to be official names and what makes sense to be official names based on past CMF series)
    Corn Cob Guy
    Rocket Boy
    Butterfly Girl
    Hot Dog Vendor
    Elf Maiden
    Roman Gladiator
    Battle Dwarf
    Circus Strongman
    Highwayman
    Veterinarian
    Dance Instructor
    Surfer Boy
    Retro Space Hero
    Yuppie
    Gourmet Chef
    Connoisseur

  28. Grimm says:

Hey J thanks for sharing your insight on the new LEGO Minifigure series! At first glance I was a little disappointed with the new selection of Minifigures due to be released, but after a closer look all these figures bring some fantastic character traits! Corn suit guy!? Classic! The surfers surfboard is frickin sweet! And classic space man!? All around an instant favorite.. not to mention all the rest.. I am very much looking forward to getting my blind bag brail on again. I honestly feel like the mystery figure is LEGO’s way of generating more duplicate sales! If this is the case than I would imagine they would make the mystery figure a rare figure. Probably not like me gold but maybe 1 per box? Please share any opinions you might have on this mysterious mini figure!

    • Jay says:

Yeah. It’s a lot more “civilian” and less outlandish than previous Series, but I think that’s okay. Some of the designs are really inventive.

Definitely agree with the mystery minifigure. Consensus that it’s a Highwayman, but I’d love to see LEGO keep this a secret until official reviews are out and/or they go on sale.

  29. Hammerdragon says:

Quite a few there to clear the wallet for, Rocket boy and corn guy are absolutes, weightlifter, diner guy, pastry chef and Frenchmen, yes please, and probably the dwarf warrior, is that a new war hammer? The rest I’ll consider when released to take a better look

  30. Ch(A)osproduction Limited says:

I do hope the price will go down again though! I live in Denmark and the Minifigs vent from 20 danish krowns (2.85USD) to 29 danish krowns (4.14USD) when the Batman series arrived… That Hurt my wallet!

  31. Jodi says:

I keep thinking of Boonie when I look at macho man. Loving rocket boy.

  32. Ch(A)osproduction Limited says:

The Diner dude with the tray and checkered pants are brilliant 😀
But Flash Gordon (retro spaceman) & Rocket Boy will be my first hunting subjects.
There’s a good amount of “ordinary” city folk in this round – I like that 🙂
No need for gladiators, elves or dwarves (thought lord of the rings had ended?)
The “mystery” figure might be connected to pirates of “something” at the ocean and your Highwayman is actually A very good guess Jay 🙂
Or! The Scarlet Pimpernel, to resque the frenchman and his dog!?
Overall a very nice round – Got to have them all! don’t we 😉

    • Jay says:

After thinking about the mystery minifigure over the weekend… I really don’t think it’s going to be anything super special. My theory is that it’s just going to be kept under wraps till reviews or the minifigs go on sale – just for that added surprise element!

      • Jonathan Wilson says:

Its already been reported elsewhere (by people who are in-the-know and have been good with this kind of reporting of inside-info before) that the mystery figure is a Highwayman and that its not anything special or rare.

  33. Armin says:

Another dog mold! And a bunny mold!

  34. Matt Merrill says:

I’m leaning heavily toward corn guy, rocket boy, elven warrior and retro spaceman. Otherwise, the rest is pretty passable for me. I’ve only been doing the CM series since like series 12 but I’m finding it harder and harder to get excited about fantasy/medieval army builders and some of the more mundane city type folks. The suit guys will always be an obvious winner for me.

On the other hand, we must forget that for folks new to Lego minifigs, it’s nice that they have access to some character types that may not be new to the rest of us…

    • Jay says:

Great choices. I think the Army Builder minifigs in this Series is a lot weaker compared to previous Series – which is good for my wallet!

That’s a great point. as long time collectors, we tend to get pretty jaded by what’s available but for new fans especially kids, these are always going to be great. Love the Surfer as well!

    • I really enjoy the city figs because I can actually USE them in my giant city build. I get a little tired of all the weird space fighter guys and monsters. I love collecting the series, but more so, I love having more interest and unique figures to add to my lego city.

  35. Fiona says:

I love the animals – french bulldog and rabbit 🙂

  36. Monty says:

    Rocket man is awesome.
