March 2017 LEGO & Technic sets have made their way to Australian retail stores

Good news if you’ve got money burning a hole in your pocket, because the March Australian LEGO releases have finally made it to stores Down Under!

I was at my local shopping centre this afternoon and managed to get some time to check out some LEGO, after receiving several tip offs from readers (thank you to those that emailed or dropped me a message on Facebook!)

Here’s what I spotted today:

At Big W, I spotted the second wave of DC and Marvel Mighty Micros, as well as the new March 2017 Marvel sets, which include 76077 Detroit Steel Strikes that I reviewed early this month. A review of the Red Hulk set is coming soon, by the way!

Also spotted were the two new Frozen sets. I’m a big fan of Frozen, but I think I’ll wait till a good sale before I get the upgraded Elsa Castle.

Very nice to see the new Elves on the shelves too. Gonna be snagging all of these for sure.

And lastly, we’ve also got the new Technic 2017 sets, which include the awesome looking Ocean Explorer and BMW Motorrad Bike!

The only theme that I couldn’t find were the new Minecraft sets! Let me know if you managed to spot them.

Didn’t spot any of the new Guardians of the Galaxy 2 sets, but I did see them at Target! Prices were nothing to shout about – just about $1 off RRP.

Apparently, these new sets have also been spotted at Myer. If you’re planning on picking some of these new sets up this week, I recommend heading down to Myer where they’re currently running a get 20% off toys (except for LEGO Batman Movie & Minifigures) when you buy 2 or more toys sale. The last day of the sale is Tuesday, 28 February, so there’s still time if you want to snag the new sets at a discount.

Alternatively, you can wait for Toys R Us, who will be having a Buy 1 Get 1 Half Price sale from 1 – 14 March, which effectively gives you 25% off if you buy two similarly-priced sets.

Do note that Toys R Us has been notoriously slow with getting stock in, so the chances of the new March releases showing up will be quite low.

So there’s that – with the new March releases in-store, we’re pretty much got all the sets from the first half of the year, except for a couple of retailer exclusives and big ticket items.

Other Set Availability Update

10255 Assembly Square

Bricking Around has reported that the Assembly Square has turned up at the Dreamworld LEGO Store, which is a pretty good sign. No idea why you would buy it there since you can get it shipped to you for free and get VIP points (as well as any gift with purchase sets) if you buy it online from LEGO.com.

If you’re thinking of picking up the Assembly Square, I’d recommend waiting till Myer gets it for the mid-year toy sale to snag it for at least 20% off, OR wait till the 4th of April to order it online and get the free Mini Volkswagen Beetle set as a bonus gift from LEGO.com.

70751 Ninjago Temple of Airjitzu

This one is a bit of a surprise, but a welcome one nonetheless. The Ninjago Temple of Airjitzu will FINALLY make it to Australian retail stores. It will be a general release and it will arrive in the country some time in April.

I was beginning to give up hope on this ever appearing in the country but after making an appearance at the Dreamworld LEGO Store, it’s really nice to hear that it will soon make its way nationwide. Super huge kudos to LEGO Australia for finally bringing this set in.

That’s it for now! Have you picked up any of the new March 2017 releases over the weekend? I’d love to hear about what you bought or what you’re planning to get in the comments!

I must’ve had bad luck – I’m in Melbourne on business, and have been to targets, Big W, Myer, David Jones, and Kmart – no Guardians sets! I’ll head to Rick James if I get out early enough today.

I’m worried about that Milano – it doesn’t look like it has a central hold like the first one, more like a dual seat fighter. I’ll be getting Ayeshas revenge though, so I’ll have baby groot for my OG Milano.

    • Michael says:

Yeah, finally found the two Guardians sets I didn’t want 🙂 new Milano looks poxy unfortunately – smaller, more ‘toy-like’, and with a much smaller hold.

    • Jay says:

Ah bummer. Did you manage to any yesterday?

I’m reviewing the Milano next. It’s not as bad as I expected and is actually quite a nice set. But if you have the old one, it doesn’t feel like much of an upgrade.

I spotted the new A-wing in TRU yesterday, so there might be hope for the Landspeeder and Skiff showing up as exclusives in other stores, which means hope for not having to pay RRP for those insanely overpriced sets. Probably no hope for the Phantom II though.

I did see the new GotG sets in Myer as well, but even at 20% off they just didn’t interest me.

    • Jay says:

Yeah, with the new March releases, I really hope the Landspeeder and Skiff start showing up. I’ll be sure to keep an extra keen eye out. Unfortunately, Phantom is a big no for Australia, so next time you order something from LEGO.com, be sure to pick it up!

I’m a big GOTG fan, so I’m gonna pick them all up!

I bought the 42065 Technic RC Tracked Racer from Big W today.
$95 I thought was a good price considering that it is $120 on the Lego website.
I only got it because I wanted to put a motor in my Technic Porsche 911.
The power fuctions set alone was going to cost $50 and this set has 2 motors and a remote control.
Big W also has the Technic Porsche 911 for $400 for anyone who hasn’t got one.
The Porsche is definitely worth getting.

    • Jay says:

Wow, that’s 20% off for the Tracked Racer – very nice score! And yes, the Porche is stunning. I haven’t seen one at Big W in ages here in Melbourne! Guess they get snapped up everytime they go on sale.

      • Greg says:

Big W at Karingal near Frankston had about 5 of the Porsche 911 for $400
They had almost no Technic sets for the last few months and now they have heaps.
Unfortunately they didn’t have the Technic Race Kart 42048 which I am still after.
They had plenty of the new Marvel sets too.
They also have the Darth Vader and Storm Trooper figure clocks but I am after the Harley Quinn Clock.

  4. Ben Teoh says:

Mmm new Mighty Micros 😀 😀

    • Jay says:

Yes! Gah, so many shiny distractions. I’m just glad we get a bit of respite between now and June. I keep having to tell myself… exercise self control!

  5. Kathleen says:

I bought all three Guardians of the Galaxy. They are coming in the mail. Not a new LEGO set but excited I found a Wall E today!

    • Jay says:

Nice score! I’m slightly on the fence with the Milano – I’d really love to review it and see how it stacks up against the original, which is one of my favourite LEGO sets of all time, but I think I’m going to be disappointed by it. Nice score on the Wall-E!

  6. JACKATTACKS says:

Sorry, so how much do the gotg2 sets cost? Nice to know that they have appeared here but i need to plan my budget!

    • Jay says:

From memory, the Milano was $79, Ayesha’s Revenge was $49 and Ravager Attack was $39

      • JACKATTACKS says:

Thanks Jay! The Milano price seems alright. Ayesha’s Revenge price was expected but $39 for the Ravager Attack??? Seems a bit pricey. I was expecting $35. That set is going to be a pass.
