Brickset have revealed official images of the two new LEGO Thor: Ragnarok sets, 76088 Thor vs Hulk Arena Clash and 76084 The Ultimate Battle for Asgard.
These sets will be released to support the upcoming third Thor movie, Thor: Ragnarok which will be in cinemas in late October/early November and is actually my most anticipated Marvel movie of the year.
If you haven’t watched the incredible trailer for Thor Ragnarok, you totally should. I have full confidence that Taika Waititi is going to do an amazing job with the movie.
There are no official pricing details yet, but I’m going to make a few educated guesses on the pricing based of the current pricing of Marvel Super Heroes sets. I’ll update this when the official pricing gets released.
The release date for the Thor: Ragnarok sets should be in August 2017, as per news out of the Toy Fairs earlier this year.
Here are my brief thoughts on the sets.
76088 Thor vs Hulk Arena Clash
Estimated Pricing: US$49.99 / AU$79.99 / £44.99
This is bound to be the set to pickup as it contains The Hulk in Sakaarian Gladiator armour. The shoulder pauldrons and moulded helmet should make him a really great addition to your Hulk collection. Battling The Hulk is Thor who is also in gladiator gear, which includes that sweet new winged helmet.
Rounding up the group of minifigures is Thor’s primary adversary and step-brother, Loki, the Grandmaster, a mysterious character that’s related to The Collector who is also played by Jeff Goldblum, as well as a Sakaarian Guard.
The set itself looks pretty bare with a very small, but very colourful wall sections with some viewing platforms. The colour scheme matches the vibrant new palettes shown off in the trailer… but it looks very Juniorised to me.
I do like Loki in his new Golden State Warriors-inspired outfit!
76084 The Ultimate Battle for Asgard
Estimated Pricing: US$59.99 / AU$89.99 / £54.99
The Ultimate Battle for Asgard sees an epic battle scene unfolding between Hela, played by Cate Blanchett, the primary antagonist of the movie and Valkyrie, a human version of Bruce Banner and Thor who is without his hammer Mjolnir but is instead firing out bolts of energy from his arms.
Valkyrie who makes her debut in this movie is piloting a really bizarre looking doughnut shaped red and yellow spaceship… which also looks pretty kiddy and juvenile.
This set is pretty much a glorified minifigure pack, but since it contains a ton of major characters AND the first Bruce Banner minifigure, this should do quite well. I just hope it’s not too expensive.
So that’s it for the reveal of the two Thor: Ragnarok LEGO sets! What do you think of the designs and minifigures?
Overall, the minifigures look sensational, but I am dreading the actual sets.

I’d love to collect some of the awesome figures like Hela, Loki in his new garb, or the armoured Hulk. However, the builds are rather uninspiring.

Thankfully the pricing on these sets aren’t too bad. Failing that, there’s always Bricklink!

wait… Taika Waititi… OH MY GOD THIS MOVIE IS GONNA BE GREAT.
Jay says
Yup! He’s a natural treasure. Loved Hunt for the Wilderpeople!

I would have preferred it if they had just stuck to the original mythology. Fenrir looks almost robot-y and the Midgard serpent (Jormungard i think) is nowhere to be seen. As far as I know, that is all Ragnarok was supposed to contain. Those two fighting the gods and a bunch of dead warriors.
Jay says
Imma gonna hold off on judgement till I see the movie. It could all make sense!
Bruno says
This is Taika Waititi your talking about. He can pull it off.
blake says
I actually just want the wolf thing from 76084…
Jay says
Fenrir has some new parts – the slope with the rocky texture which looks pretty cool, but apart from that, it seems like you could easily assemble him out of spare parts.

Minifigures good, builds bad. VERY bad. I was hoping for actual bits of Asgard, not a silly doughnut ship.
Jay says
I’d have even settled for half a rainbow bridge ?
Sgoteam says
That’s it. I’m officially super super super hyped for T3.
Hell yeah!!! Who cares about Team Cap or Team Iron Man? Team Thor rocks!
Jay says
If only we had a Darryl minifigure!
Bruno says
YES SOMEONE MAKE A CUSTOM OF HIM, QUICK.
Jay says
Shouldn’t be that hard 😉

I’m super excited for the minifigures, but the Grandmaster, Valkryie and Bruce Banner were a bit underwhelming. They better include a hairpiece for Loki! The rest of it (aka the sets themselves) are…disappointing. A blindingly-bright half-wall/enclosure for the arena, and a space ship that’s round and red? Very Thor-like. Piece count and builds are looking like they may disappoint. The giant black wolf (which is a famous Norse mythology character from Ragnarok in the comics, and he appears in some SDCC promotional art but I’ve forgotten his name) is the only half-decent looking thing, and even then it looks underdeveloped. Hoping that the details and functions will make up for them 🙁
Sgoteam says
I believe the wolf’s name is the Fenris Wolf
Jay says
Fenrir!
Jay says
It would’ve been really sick if Bruce Banner was in mid-transformation to The Hulk. But yeah, the builds are pretty lacklustre, as they have been with most recent Marvel sets outside of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. My expectations aren’t super high, but I’ll still get the sets. Such is life for a tragic minifig collector.

I feel you. I brought the captain america jet chase for ms marvel… and than snapped her arms in half and replaced them with normal red ones. The Marvel sets are really getting low at this point, and the only good one (spider man bridge thingymajig) was retired this year. It seems LEGO are trying to make superhero sets bad at this point.
Uday says
The Bridge Battle set is still available from all major retailers and is available now on Shop@Home, so I really don’t know what you mean by “retired”.
