Australian LEGO Sale: Mid-Year Toy Sale June 2017

It’s been a little quiet on the LEGO sales front here Down Under, but all that is about to change soon as the mid-year toy sales officially kicks off!

If you’re new to toy sales here in Australia, the mid-year stocktake sale window is the second biggest toy sale (after Christmas) in the country and many retailers go nuts discounting their LEGO and offering incentives such as laybys to Christmas with the hopes of getting people to do their Xmas shopping early and avoid the frenzy at the end of the year.

Naturally, it’s one of the best times to buy LEGO as well! As always, I’ll be compiling all the sales and offers into this post for ease of use, so check back to this link or follow me on Facebook to learn about new sales and deals. You can also find this post on the top navigation bar on the blog!

Myer have officially kicked off the 2017 mid-year toy sale with the launch of their catalogue. Check it out below for all the details!

Big W (Catalogue link 22 June – 12 July In-store. Online now)

Big W have a monster of a LEGO sale and this is quite possibly one of the better sales this time round. Big W’s catalogue is massive, and pretty much covers every major LEGO theme. The great thing about the sale is that a wide variety of sets are discounted close to 30%, with some even approaching the 40% off mark which is sweet.

Big W’s 2017 toy sale runs from 22 June to 12 July in-store, however I’ve just been alerted that their sale has started online today!

In terms of exclusives, Big W are once again trotting out the SHIELD Helicarrier for $475. I suspect that this will be the final appearance of the Helicarrier at Big W before it gets retired. Big W are also flexing 60162 City Jungle Airdrop Helicopter for $198 (RRP $230) which is an all right discount.

The other major highlight in the catalogue is 71042 The Silent Mary which is discounted to $249 (RRP $350) representing savings of almost 30%. I guess LEGO, like Disney are cutting their losses with this ship after the lackluster performance of the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Here are my top 10 choices of what to buy at the Big W sale in no particular order. I can bet you that the Creator sets & Silent Mary are going to sell out REALLY quickly.

Format: $sale price | $RRP (percentage discount)

  1. LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Silent Mary – 71042– $248| $350 (29%)
  2. LEGO Friends Heartlake Hospital – 41318 – $98| $150 (35%)
  3. LEGO City Police Station 60141 – $94 | $160 (41%)
  4. LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Transformation – 75183 – $29| $45 (36%)
  5. LEGO Star Wars Republic Fighter Tank – 75182 – $29| $45 (36%)
  6. LEGO Batman Movie The Scuttler 70908 – $99| $150 (34%)
  7. LEGO Creator Vacation Getaway 3-in-1 Camper Van – $75 | $120 (37%)
  8. LEGO Creator Modular Family Villa – 31069 – $65| $100 (35%)
  9. LEGO City Pizza Van 60150 – $18| $30 (40%)
  10. LEGO Creator Park Street Townhouse – 31065 – $49 | $80 (39%)

And here’s the full list complete with links to buy them online!

LEGO.com [AUS/UK]

In a bit of an unexpected move, LEGO.com are joining in the toy-sale frenzy. The Australian online LEGO shop has a bunch of sets reduced at 30% off RRP – mostly Nexo Knights and Angry Birds sets.

If you’re in the UK, the Sales & Deals are almost identical as well.

In Australia, it’s almost impossible to find Angry Birds sets out in the wild (except for a few well-stocked Toyworlds), so if you missed out on them and want some LEGO versions of those anthropomorphic birds from that smartphone game… 30% isn’t too shabby, especially once you factor in VIP points as well.

Myer (Catalogue link 13 June – 16 July)

UPDATE (15/6): Myer has 20% off all LEGO till Sunday, 18 June 2017. This time, the 75159 Death Star is included in the sale as well, so if you’re thinking of picking one up, now’s probably a pretty good time. With the Anniversary Code, the UCS Death Star goes down to $619.96 which is about 22.5% off.

The ANNIVERSARY codes (see above) also apply, so be sure to add them if you’re buying anything!

Myer’s stocksale sale is not the best this year as they’ve all but done away with blanket 20% off sales. This time, they have 20% off a selection of LEGO sets, which is decent but nothing to shout about.

The highlight of their catalogue is the much-anticipated 10255 Modular Assembly Square which is their pseudo-exclusive* which is on sale for $320 (down from $400). Other big ticket items include:

*the set is also available at the Dreamworld LEGO Store/Chadstone LEGO Store so it’s not a true exclusive.

There’s also a selection of LEGO Batman Movie sets at 20% off which include 70909 Batcave Break-In, 70906 The Joker Notorious Lowrider, 70907 Killer Croc Tail Gator, 70908 The Scuttler and 70905 The Batmobile. 20% is not great, especially for sets that they’re trying to clear. I’d only buy LEGO Batman Movie sets at 30% off or greater.

Don’t forget that if you’re buying online, do apply the following discount codes which are still valid for additional discounts. Yes, these codes will also apply to the Assembly Square, which effectively makes it 25% off which is a bloody ripper of a deal.

  • ANNIVERSARY10 – $10 off $60 spend
  • ANNIVERSARY15 – $15 off $80 spend
  • ANNIVERSARY20 – $20 off $100 spend

Expired: That said, TODAY (13 June 2017) is a great time to buy LEGO from Myer as they have a daily deal as part of their stocktake sale where you can get 25% off all LEGO, except for LEGO Minifigures, Creator Expert Sets, the LEGO Death Star and LEGO LED lights.

Be sure to combine them with the following discount codes to make it a really fantastic deal.

  • ANNIVERSARY10 – $10 off $60 spend
  • ANNIVERSARY15 – $15 off $80 spend
  • ANNIVERSARY20 – $20 off $100 spend

And yes, this discount also applies to the new June 2017 LEGO sets (Cars 3, Friends, Nexo Knights, Speed Champions & Star Wars) so it’s a great time to pick up some of the newer sets. Not all of them are listed online but you should be able to find them in-store.

Here are some highlights. Don’t forget to factor in an additional $20 off from the use of the ANNIVERSARY20 code.

That’s it for now! Be sure to check back to this post for any new sales and updates.

Anyone planning to buy anything? Let me know what you plan on picking up in the comments!

Big W have another %20 off sale on Lego starting yesterday (02/08) and going until the 18th I think…. going to get in today and pick up one or two of the new Technic sets. No sign in my local Big W (Warringah Mall, Sydney) yet of the London Bus though – really hope that comes in soon so I can get it at sale price.

  2. Craig says:

Kmart has the new Batman Lego including the batmobile

  3. Nick J says:

Have just discovered the LEGO Batman The Ultimate Batmobile 70917 on the Big W website but it says that it is out of stock online. I don’t think I have seen it in any catalogues or promotions. Has anyone seen it in stores anywhere?

    • Jen says:

Have been to a few Big Ws and haven’t seen any new Lego Batman sets. Their website also has all the new Lego City Sets (Jungle, coast guard and bus) but the only new City set that has shown up in stores is the Jungle Air Drop Helicopter set, which is featured in the catalogue.

    • Jay says:

      It should be out now!

      • Nick J says:

Picked up the Ultimate Batmobile at Kmart on the weekend for $199. Very happy, and was a complete surprise as I saw it by accident.

        • Jen says:

Big W have the Ultimate Batmobile on special this week for $175. They seem to have most of the new sets in stock.

        • Jay says:

Very nice! I’ve been eyeing it from BiG W – they currently have it on sale for $175. Might chuck it on layby but funds are tight this month!

  4. Chris L says:

I pulled the trigger on The scuttler, the frozen Ice Castle and a 2nd Technic BMW so i can build the 40years Car. Just need to find the Technic Telehandler and Ultralight on sale to canabalise the required parts.

    • Jay says:

Nice one! Sounds like a great score. I’ve been itching to pick up the Technic BMW too as a prop for my Constraction Star Wars figures.

  5. Beckston says:

I missed out on the Death Star 20% sale but I can still get it at 12.5% + 20 for 680. I’ve been wanting this set for ages since 10188! It was surprising to see LEGO release another identical set, but more expensive. So I’ve been on the fence about picking it up, I do love it though! Do you think 75159 is worth to buy @680 now or do you think it won’t move and Myers will have further clearance sales?

    • Jay says:

I think it’s a worthy price. Myer usually doesn’t stock a lot of these ultra-large sets, but it’ll be safe to wait till you can get it at 20% or better off.

  6. Craig says:

Unless of course they do a Target with the Batcave / Hoth UCS and do 50% on it later on

    • Jay says:

I really doubt we’ll see 50% but stranger things have happened. Target had to resort to 50% cause they were stuck with 2 bad D2C sets. Plus their company finances probably weren’t in the best shape to have those sets just sitting on shelves either.

  7. Craig says:

    Jay,
Shopforme has the Silent Mary for 245, a few dollars less than Big W so they price matched got another 10% as per the catalogue 10% guarantee inside the cover.
Probably don’t need it but 220 is a good price.

  8. Lachlan says:

Would you rather a) buy the UCS TIE Fighter @ $239.96 or b) save up for a rumoured UCS Millennium Falcon… l’m leaning towards the latter simply because if your going to get the TIE Fighter you need the X-wing and l missed out on the X-wing when it came out in 2013. l also prefer minifigure scale models. The only problem is l know l’m going to regret it if it turns out there isn’t going to be a UCS Millennium Falcon. If LEGO told us tomorrow that there will be l wouldn’t buy the TIE Fighter and would just save up till the next May 4th. Does anyone own the UCS TIE Fighter? If so what are your suggestions? thanks in advance for any help or input you might give me.

    • Jay says:

Good question! Unless its for review purposes, I’m all about buying LEGO sets at maximum discount, so I’ll probably lean towards the TIE Fighter. It’s unlikely that I’ll get the UCS Millennium Falcon on launch (I’m more of a casual Star Wars fan) so will likely wait till it goes on sale before I pull the trigger.

I wouldn’t worry about missing out on the X-Wing. LEGO being LEGO will surely re-release another UCS-scale X-Wing in the near future. It’s one of the most iconic SW vehicles. In fact, I’d expect them to release a UCS version of the Resistance X-Wing from the sequels.

      • Lachlan says:

Thanks for the advice Jay! l’m a big fan of the blog. l decided not to get the TIE Fighter but l took your advice to heart. l agree unless its for review purposes buying LEGO sets at maximum discount is the way to go especially since if you don’t like the set you can always use the parts to build something else. l bought the UCS Slave I when it was 10% off on May 4th and now l intend to do the same with the UCS Millennium Falcon assuming it will get its rumoured release.

        • Jay says:

Nice one! I don’t have the TIE Fighter myself. Still tossing up between getting it as it’s not a particular favourite of mine and my budget is rather limited. Maybe if it goes on sale for like… sub-200, haha.

  9. Jason says:

I’m waiting for the Thor and Spider-Man sets to be on sale…. All of the Batman & Guardians sets have been on sale already this year…
Are any of the retailers having a blanket % off sale, or are they all specific sets only?

  10. Craig says:

There are a few Star Wars sets that are actually 40% off…Encounter on Jakku, Tie Striker and Rebel U-Wing fighter are included.

  11. Chandra says:

can it be sent to Indonesia?

  12. Rychu Supadude says:

Oh geez, right after I pulled the trigger on Myer’s 20% sale over the weekend – got some good sets, but it looks like I could have saved even more.

    • Jay says:

It’s pretty dangerous to wait! One of my biggest regrets in life is sleeping on the Haunted House when it was $169 in Kmart. I just kept putting it off until it was too late!

  13. Magmafrost says:

It’d be real nice right now if the UCS Snowspeeder would hurry up and make it to stores.

  14. garyd says:

Just a quick note that the Tower Bridge may already be missing if ordering online.

Also if ordering $200+ try to split the order and apply the coupon codes for each order. I ordered the town square and brick bank on separate orders and used the discount code on each one. Saved $100 on the town square and $70 on the brick bank !!

Now I just need to explain it to the minister for war…

    • Glenn says:

I did the same thing. Paid for brick bank outright and then used AfterPay for Assembly Square… easier to explain to the minister. 😉

    • Jay says:

      Nice score!

My advice for explaining it your Minister of Finance is to communicate how much money you’ve been able to save!

  15. Greg says:

The amount of times I have done orders at Myer online only to find out 1-2 weeks later they don’t have stock.
Very frustrating you think Myer would be able to keep track of their stock.
Because of this I don’t shop with them anymore.
I will wait until another sale comes up.
    Good luck.

    • Mark says:

I’ve ordered Lego from Myer online during sales many times, including Assembly Square in the current sale. My experience differs from your’s but maybe I’ve just been lucky every time. On the other hand, don’t get me started on David Jones and Big W online shopping experiences!

      • Greg says:

Big W is where I usually shop as my local store usually has a good range and plenty of stock.
My local Myer usually has next to nothing in stock for LEGO that is why I “used to” buy online.
It would be good if they could all just keep track of their stock and deliver what you order.
I have never bought LEGO from David Jones.

      • Jay says:

Ugh, Big W is just terrible.

    • Jay says:

Hmm weird! Do you usually click and collect or opt for delivery? I never had any problems. The Assembly Square I ordered arrived today in perfect condition.

      • Greg says:

I usually get delivery as my local Myer never has what I want.
I has happened 3 times now that they cancelled my order because of no stock. One order was through ebay and the other times from their website.
The annoying part is you don’t find out for 1-2 weeks later and you could have bought from another sale as they all come up around the same time.
My local Target had a bunch of sets come it UCS Star Wars, Batman batcave which has me thinking they may have a sale to clear them out.

        • Jay says:

Ah bummer. Really sorry to hear that. Yeah, I saw a lot of Batcaves at mine too. Here’s hoping they knock it down to $200 again.

      • Karrot says:

        Hey Jay,
How many days did you have to wait for Assembly Square to be delivered, and how many emails did you receive from Myer about it? I ordered mine on Thursday the 15th, received one email to confirm the order, but nothing else since then…also have been unable to track it :/

        • Jay says:

Hmm, order confirmation was on the 13th, shipping notification on the 16th and it arrived on the 17th!

You should’ve gotten a shipping confirmation by now – maybe get in touch with Myer customer service? They’ve been pretty good every time I’ve had issues.
