First photos of the party-themed LEGO Minifigures Series 18

Here’s your first official look at the upcoming LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 18 that has an amazing Costume Party-theme! Series 18 is party-themed to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the LEGO minifigure and boasts what is arguably the STRONGEST lineup yet of characters.

Update: review of LEGO Series 18Be sure to check out my !

There are plenty of throwbacks to LEGO’s legacy such as the classic Police Officer from set 600, the first set to debut the modern minifigure as we know it.

Update: LEGO Minifigures Series 18 is now officially on sale worldwide. You should be able to find them at your local toy store, or you can buy them online from LEGO.com or Amazon. Do note if you buy them from LEGO.com, you’ll be getting a random blind bag!

I highly recommend buying a complete set from marketplaces like Amazon as it’s so much more convenient.

These are slated to be released in April 2018 and unlike previous core numbered minifigure series, Series 18 will have 17 characters to collect.

This definitely means that the ratio of minifigs in a box will likely change, so it’ll be interesting to see how that affects the relative rarity of each minifigure.

According to BZ Power, there will only be ONE (1) Police Officer per BOX of Series 18, making him incredibly rare. I’m still curious what the box breakdown is going to be like and if they have boxes of 61 instead of 60.

Update: Thanks to The Brick Fan’s early review, we now know the distribution/box breakdown of each complete box of Series 18:

5 of each:

  • LEGO Brick Suit Guy x5
  • LEGO Brick Suit Girl x5

4 of each:

  • Dragon Suit Guy x4
  • Firework Guy x4
  • Spider Suit Boy x4
  • Flowerpot Girl x4
  • Cowboy Costume Guy x4
  • Unicorn Guy x4
  • Birthday Cake Guy x4

3 of each:

  • Elephant Girl x3
  • Party Clown x3
  • Birthday Party Girl x3
  • Cactus Girl x3
  • Cat Costume Girl x3
  • Race Car Guy x3
  • Birthday Party Boy x3

1 of each:

  • Classic Policeman x1

Interesting to also see the new orange baseplates. Really glad that LEGO is introducing new colours to differentiate each series!

This is a little early but I’m calling this the best Minifigure series ever.

The variety of costumes and just how fun ALL the characters look is simply unprecedented and I can already see myself spending a ton of money collecting multiples of these characters.

Below are all 17 characters. Which ones are your favourites, let me know in the comments!

Flowerpot Girl

Fireworks Guy

Elephant Girl

Dragon Suit Guy

Cowboy Costume Guy

Cat Costume Girl

Cake Guy

Cactus Girl

Birthday Party Boy

Birthday Party Girl

Unicorn Guy

Spider Suit Boy

Race Car Guy

Police Officer

Party Clown

LEGO Brick Suit Guy

LEGO Brick Suit Girl

There’s so many to choose from it’s actually hard to pick a favourite, but my top picks would be the LEGO Brick Suit Boy and Girl, Race Car Guy, Cactus Girl, Elephant Girl, Dragon Suit Guy and Cowboy Costume Guy.

Found these today and picked up the clown (had to have those great ballon animals), guy in racecar (I love collecting hotwheel cars, just wish he came with a winner flag to hold, birthday cake boy (think he also needs something to hold in one hand, maybe a ballon or a noisemaker?), fireworks guy (think he needs a flag to hold) , cowboy costume guy (needs a lasso) and flower girl (wish she had a cute smile). Not really complaining about them, just imagining what I would like to add. I think the biggest disappointment is the orange base. One of my favorite thing about the last Batman series was the bases with the Batman emblem. Was hoping they would continue with something similar.

I an a huge minifigure fan and have collected every CMF set (on display). It’s always difficult to pick a favourite set, but I must agree Jay, the Party set would have to be the best all-round CMF set produced.

BTW, love the blog. You provide a fantastic service to the AFOL community. Keep up the good work.

  3. Daryl says:

I’m a little disappointed by this set not because of the looks, but because of the quality of the packaging. Out of 8 I got, two had the wrong heads and one was missing pieces. Kind of funny to have dragon guy with firework guys sunglasses though.

  4. Eddie says:

Can I please have them I can’t afford legis?

  5. Julie says:

I love them all a lot but my favorite has to be the cactus

  6. Mark G. says:

Target just had some out and I got the police officer on the first try ?

  7. Rebecca Palmer says:

Wow, my daughter told me about the new series 18. We are both looking forward to buying them. Think my daughter will buy the box.

  8. Mark (papaballoon) garvey says:

I love them all. But since I work making balloon animals… The balloon party clown! Best ever!

  9. WCT says:

Spider, Cowboy, Dragon, Firework, Cat, Cake, and Unicorn are my favorites.

  10. Moriachi says:

This looks a great set – plenty I’m keen on here, if not the whole character at least the pieces.
My favourite though – has to be the Police guy and it was straight up as soon as I saw it amongst the others. The set in his hand is fun and he doesn’t have any particular nostalgia for me… other than his face. I grew up with LEGO when this face adorned every character from every set. Faces as they’ve become fill me with a little regret. Some imagination space has been filled in I think and I think that’s a loss to the toy.
From a design point of view though – this set touches on all the lines and history of LEGO in obvious and not so obvious ways. Great thinking LEGO.

    • Jay says:

I know what you mean, I’m a big fan of the classic smiley faces for those exact reasons. I was pretty disappointed when I found out they had swapped the faces in the Modular Buildings to the newer modern faces.

  11. Jacky392000 says:

Birthday Cake Guy caught my attention!

  12. Warmongurl says:

Wow, these are awesome! I’ll definitely collect them all but my fav is “cowboy suit guy”.

  13. Colby says:

Man, these are so amazing! Lego has definitely been pushing their limits these last few months, with incredible printing, fantastic molding, and creative ideas! I’m most excited for the Cactus, Dragon guy, Flower pot, and Ballon Artist Clown, though I’m for sure getting them all 😉

    • Jay says:

Yeah, I just hope the quality of the moulds and accessories hold up. Some of the recent minifig accessories and printing have been a little shoddy.

  14. Joanna Jezewska says:

    Wow! It looks amazing!

I reckon I’m getting the whole set. I love costumed minifigures. Best for me are Elephant girl, Flower girl, cactus girl, dragon suit guy and cat guy. Can’t wait!

    • Jay says:

Great picks! I’m very seriously considering getting an entire box. They all look fantastic, and I want multiples of so many of them.

  15. Levi says:

Jay, you can delete my comment, just read your additional comment below. I thought about the same thing on 600/60 🙂

  16. Levi says:

It will be a great series for kids, maybe less for AFOLs, but we’ll see. The retro policeman has the Lego 600 box in his hand, where he appeared. And all this happens on the 60th birthday of Lego (600/60). I believe somewhat Lego celebrates their own brand with the series as well.
I’ll pick the dragon suit and lego suit guys for sure, the rest will be picked by my daughters so I foresee elephant, flowerpot, cat and other costumes coming in to the house 🙂

    • Jay says:

Yeah, and if you notice with the Orange Balloon Guy, he also has a 1 x 1 printed tile that’s meant to be a blind bag!

      It’s definitely a celebratory series!

  17. Shamus says:

I thought the police officer was boring, but then I saw he’s holding the set that he’s ‘dressed up’ as. – Lego 600
police car. I like it 🙂

  18. Adrian K says:

This looks SO good! Absolutely LOVE the police officer – Set 600 was my first set, back in about 1982, so the fact that they’re (kinda) re-releasing it is blowing my mind!

Dragon, unicorn and cactus also look v. cool. After the disappointment of the Batman Movie 2 set, this is a massive improvement.

    • Adrian says:

Update : 1 police officer in 60 bags! Aaaaargh! You can almost hear the eBay extortionists rubbing their hands with glee. Such a bad move on Lego’s part. 🙁

  19. LEGOFanblue says:

I was worried that this series would be too weird when I heard the rumoured list, but now that I see them I’m considering the full set. Very good actually far better than I expected. Favourites are the clown, spider, cactus and red brick guy

  20. Ann says:

Love them all. Can’t pick a favourite, but my least favourite ones would be the girl and boy brick. the police officer and the balloon artist but I’ll probably still get them too ‘cos they are cute too. Definitely the best series to date I think too.

  21. Magmafrost says:

The police officer is the only boring fig in the entire series. 16/17 is a hell of a lot better than any other series has ever done for me. But most of all I want the cactus. Or, lots of them.

    • The police officer is boring? I love it! Great retro throwback.

      • Adrian K says:

Definitely! Especially if you’re old enough to have had set 600 the first time around! 2018 is the 40th anniversary of the minifig, so I guess this is their way of commemorating that.

      • FowlerBricks says:

That’s what I though too! As a Lego fan who never got any retro sets, I would love to have that guy.

    • Jay says:

Don’t think it’s boring. Like Vaderfan says, it’s a throwback to the first LEGO minifigure ever. Plus, the tile with set 600 is also awesome, especially since the series is meant to be part of LEGO’s 60th Anniversary celebrations. It’s super meta.

  22. Warren says:

The mouse from Elephant Girl is so cute!!! lol

    • Jay says:

Yes and her crying face too!

    • wishbook says:

I dunno if I’m doing something wrong but I can’t get Elephant Girl to hold her mouse (I know she doesn’t *really* want to) the way it’s shown/suugested in the pictures. I don’t know if they’re all this hard to configure…or if I just got a wonky one. Great blog, btw. I always come here first for my sneak peaks at the new minifig series.

  23. Naomi says:

I’m very excited for these ones! I’ll definitely be on the lookout for Flower Girl, Race Car Guy and Balloon Clown.

  24. Michael says:

Best. Series. Ever. Insta-buy for the whole set. The costumes fig is always the most popular, so a set of costumed figs? Take my money!

  25. Matt says:

No offense but I kinda hate the orange baseplate, doesn’t have the minifigure series feel. Worst series ever if you ask me other than the dragon suit guy.
