Introducing all 20 characters from The LEGO Movie 2 minifigures series – coming February 2019

Now that the first wave of the LEGO Movie 2 sets have been released out into the wild, we’ve finally gotten our first official glimpse of the new LEGO Movie 2 Minifigures Series, featuring a stacked cast of 20 characters!

As is the norm with LEGO Movie tie-in collectible minifigure series, there will be 20 characters to collect in total.

The release date for The LEGO Movie 2 minifigures is 1 February 2019.

They’re now available online from LEGO.com, Amazon (US), Amazon Australia and most usual toy stores that stock LEGO.

My recommendation is to purchase complete sets outright as it just saves you time hunting them down. You can usually find complete sets on Amazon or your local specialty LEGO retailer who will most likely sell complete sets.

Here’s the full list of unofficial names and a character checklist above.

The box breakdown and distribution is super simple this time around – there will be 3 complete sets of LEGO Movie 2 Minifigures in each box, which makes it 3 of each character. None of that rare “chase” minifigure nonsense this time around.

  • DJ Emmet
  • Apocalypseburg Lucy
  • Apocalypseburg Benny
  • Unikitty
  • Gone Golfin’s President Business
  • Flashback Lucy
  • Vest Friend Rex
  • Sherry Scratchen-post and Scarfield
  • Dorothy Gale and Toto
  • Cowardly Lion
  • Tin Man
  • Scarecrow
  • Apocalypseburg Abe
  • Crayon Girl
  • Giraffe Guy
  • Swamp Creature
  • Candy Rapper
  • Watermelon Dude
  • Hula Lula
  • Kitty Pop

What’s new for this series are the new white base plates which look great. Sadly, it doesn’t seem like there’s any printing on them which is a bit of a bummer! A LEGO Movie 2 logo printed on them would’ve been sweet.

Outside of the main characters like Emmet, Lucy, Benny, President Business, Unikitty (who’s snuck her way into being categorised as a minifig!), Rex Dangervest, we’re also getting all the main characters from the Wizard of Oz, which is a bit of a surprise!

Here’s a look at the box of 60 blind bags.

Here’s a look at the individual blind bags. You’ll notice that the shape has changed slightly, and they’re a little taller than previous versions.

Its design follows the Unikitty Collectible Series, which means there’s a bag within a bag, which may make it slightly trickier to feel for the minifigs.

For fans of the classic movie, you’ll be pleased that the series contains Dorothy (with her trademark ruby slippers and Toto!), the Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion!

Rounding out the cast is a huge cast of costumed characters – I’m really looking forward to Watermelon Dude, Giraffe Guy (looks like an homage to Geoffrey the Toys R Us Giraffe. RIP) and Crayon Suit Girl.

There are also some inhabitants of Apocalypseburg, who are all tricked out for life in an apocalyptic wasteland, which have also appeared in the first LEGO Movie such as the Swamp Creature, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and the Sherry Scratchen-Post with her cat, Scarfield which now sports an epic mohawk.

This looks like it has all the elements of an amazing series, and as a massive fan of LEGO Minifigures, I absolutely cannot wait for these!

Only time will tell what the box breakdown and distribution of these minifigures will be. I just hope that LEGO stops the silly practice from Harry Potter & Fantastic Beasts and Series 18 where they introduced a super-rare, one per box chase minifigure.

Let me know in the comments what characters are you most excited about!

    Hey Jay,

Please review it and rate each one. I love your review and wait for this for a long time.

  3. Gabriel Garza says:

Wife picked up two 42S8 bags at Kroger today in Dallas (on sale for 1.99), they are both Hula Lula…

  4. andy says:

I said I wasn’t going to be getting these… Then I saw the Wizard of Oz minifigs and I was lost.

Picked up the Tin Man today and he’s fantastic! (I thought I had the Cowardly Lion as well, but wasn’t 100% sure I was feeling the tail through the pack, and couldn’t feel the 1×2 tile of his bravery award so left it)

Oddly enough the Tin Man came with 2 spare collar/bowtie pieces… He also had a spare heart, which is always useful…

It’s just a pity they haven’t done the Wizard of Oz ones on yellow baseplates.

    • Jay says:

Yeah, all the Tin Man spares are great! Can’t really complain when you get more than you expect.

The baseplates are a big miss – I love that they’re white, but it would’ve been amazing if they would’ve had the LEGO Movie 2 logo!

  5. Edgar says:

I got some packs at walmart yesterday, its easy to feel the bag with the ones i wanted which are the giraffe, crayon and watermelon so i got them three. I may try to go back there and get the Wizard of Oz set.

  6. Melissa says:

The codes may be to throw us off. They don’t seem to be exclusive. But does anybody else notice if you hold the package upside down and look at the corner there are some distinct markings? (Under the 5+ in the ripples…). I only got one bag today, so I don’t have any to compare

    • Christy says:

I just got 5 on clearance at a Kohl’s near me. 4 of them say 03S9. They are Giraffe Guy, Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Cowardly Lion. The last says 49S8 and is the Crayon one. I wasted a lot of time trying to find Dorothy. The Giraffe and crayon were easy to feel. Only felt the ones I got of scarecrow and lion, but tons of the apocalypse ones and lots of Unikitty too.

  7. was able to pick up all of the figs I was looking for today. I found two standup displays and a case in two different Kroger grocery stores. I bought two of nearly every fig, but not all of them.

I found doubles of all of the figures except the Cowardly Lion, which was easy to mistake with Kitty Pop by touch only since they both have tails and big headwear.

Idk if the numbers on the back of the bag have any correlation to what’s inside but since someone else in these comments here brought them to my attention I wrote down all the ones I found.

Note that a few of them came in bags with different numbers and I somehow missed the number on the Abe bags.

    Good luck and happy hunting.

    41S8 DJ Emmet
    41S8 44S8 Apocalypseburg Lucy
    41S8 Apocalypseburg Benny
    41S8 Unikitty
    43S8 42S8 Gone Golfin’s President Business
    44S8 Flashback Lucy
    44S8 Vest Friend Rex
    41S8 Sherry Scratchen-post and Scarfield
42S8 43S8 Dorothy Gale and Toto
    41S8 Cowardly Lion
    41S8 Tin Man
    41S8 Scarecrow
    4?S8 Apocalypseburg Abe
    42S8 Crayon Girl
    42S8 Giraffe Guy
    42S8 Swamp Creature
    44S8 Candy Rapper
    41S8 Watermelon Dude
    42S8 Hula Lula
    42S8 Kitty Pop

    • Melissa says:

We got Benny in a 44s8 bag. So not sure there is much rhyme or reason to the codes

    • laura says:

what ended up being the surprise figure?

    • Neo says:

You are incorrect. There are definitely NOT three complete sets per case. In the case I have there are 4 of the Cowardly Lion and 4 of Dorthy, 2 Benny and 2 Sherry Scratchenpost. Everything else there were three of.

    • Jay says:

Seems like the numbers are unreliable if they have the same code across so many different characters!

    • Andy says:

I’m in the UK so our codes may be different, but I just opened a “Vest friend Rex” and Benny, both in bags numbered 51S8.

As a classic space fan, Benny is worth it for his toolbox accessory with the classic space logo 🙂

  8. David says:

Looks like they have stopped the dots to try to figure out the figures and have gone to a code. We found 3 bags at a local store today, 2 had 42S8 printed on the back, one had 41S8. Both of the 42S8 were Sherry Scratchen-Post and Scarfield. 41S8 was Flashback Lucy. Hope that helps, as I could find anything about codes for this set online.

    • Poekie says:

Thanks – I’d be looking for Mrs Scratchen-Post so this is super helpful!

    • Tony says:

The four digit codes are probably production run codes, similar to the ones found on boxed LEGO sets. On boxed sets, they are located on the tape seal or stamped on sets without tape seals. The first two digits indicate week and the last two digits are the year. 42S8 probably means week 42, 2018.

    • Jay says:

Yeah, the dots don’t really work any more. I don’t think they’ve worked for awhile! I wouldn’t rely on them to be honest.

  9. Warmongurl says:

I am most excited for Giraffe Suit guy, the Wizard of Oz cast, and Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter! Also the mohawk cat.

  10. LindaC says:

?? The Wizard of Oz characters

Can I order those four please

  11. Poekie says:

The crazy cat lady has a name, it’s Mrs. Scratchen-Post and she was also one of the CMFs for the first LEGO movie (as was Abraham Lincoln).
Also the blue singer has a very Lucy hairstyle, maybe she has a secret past?

  12. Hammerdragon says:

Quite a few there worth picking up. Be interesting to see the numbers per box too. Any ideas Jay?

  13. Adele Thomas says:

Im glad I have put an end to my minifigure series collecting…just too many.

I might treat myself and just buy the Cat Girl Guitarist

  14. Kat says:

Look again at Blue Pop Star and imagine most of that hair is black with a couple of streaks of color showing.

  15. I saw this leaked a few weeks ago and I have to say, before I saw them I really wasn’t looking forward to another Lego Movie series. But now…yeah, I’m all onboard!! Wizard of Oz? YES PLEASE!!

  16. Christian says:

When do the LEGO Movie 2 sets actually arrive in store?
