Angry Birds is LEGO’s next licensed theme.
Yup. You read that right. Finnish mobile game developer Rovio has just announced a partnership with LEGO which will see the Angry Birds theme take flight in 2016 to coincide with the release of The Angry Birds Movie.
Let that sink in for a while. Firstly, I didn’t even know that there was an Angry Birds Movie in the works. Secondly, it’s 2015 – do people still play Angry Birds? I didn’t think it was still relevant.
Angry Birds was the hottest thing in mobile gaming… in 2010. This is 2015, so I’m not sure what to make of this.
LEGO Angry Birds will make its debut in Spring (Northern Hemisphere). The movie is set to come out in July 2016, so I’m guessing the sets should start showing up from March or April onwards.
Not sure how they will look like but I’m not the most excited about it. I fully expect the slingshot mechanic to translate itself into playsets. It would be a massive disappointment if we can’t slingshot the birds to destroy brittle structures housing evil green pigs. Now that I’ve imagined what the sets will look like, maybe it won’t be too bad after all.

So uh, what do you think? I think these are crazy times we live in.
