Sydney to get its own official LEGO Store!

So fantastic news for Sydneysiders, it looks like it’s super, super official – Sydney is going to be getting an official LEGO Store at Westfield Bondi Junction in New South Wales.

The flagship store is set to open on 21 March 2019 and can be found on Oxford Street at Westfield Bondi Junction, right next to the Apple store.

So apart from the this massive signage at the store-frontage which alludes to this being Sydney’s first LEGO Store (they gonna just pretend that Birkenhead Point never existed??)

Special thanks to David Scalone for permission to share this photo!

It’s also been confirmed that it will be a LEGO Certified Store, and will cover 302 square meters over two floors.

LEGO Store staples such as the Pick a Brick Wall, and Build a Minifigure Station, as well as Brick Engraving have all been confirmed for the shop. There will also be a dedicated area for children’s parties which sounds like fun.

All in all this should be very well-received by Sydneysiders as they’ve often felt left out from the lack of an official-type store that Melbourne and the Gold Coast currently enjoy.

Can’t wait for more news to be revealed on this – my guess is that the opening will coincide with the general release of The LEGO Movie 2 in late March, to capitalise on all the buzz from the movie.

Let me know in the comments if you’re excited about the prospect of a LEGO Store opening up in Sydney!

And before I wrap things up, here’s a wonderful blast from the past – a TV ad promoting the Birkenhead Point LEGO Store – the rightful “first LEGO store in Sydney”.

Any update to when this store will open up ?
Wondering if they will be doing something special?

  2. Justin says:

Hopefully this means that we’ll be getting a LEGO Store here in Perth. Sydneysiders might feel left out, but us West Aussies haven’t had much luck either, we’ve never had anything like that!

  3. Charlotte says:

Yay! I’m excited for the build-a-Minifig stand! Bondi’s not close to me either, but worth the trip out I reckon.

Really? SEQ has had a store for what, 18 months? and Sydneysiders often feel left out? Precious much?

Will this mark the end of exclusives in the bigger shops? The idea of a Lego store is pretty cool if you live in the area, but to be honest, I wait for nearly all (probably all) my purchases to be at least 20% off prior to purchase. What will ‘exclusivity’ mean with this?

    • Jay says:

The terms “exclusives” have always been a little strange. In LEGO’s context, it’s always meant “exclusive to that one retail partner”, but you’ll almost always be able to get the complete range in the LEGO store. Unless it’s some sort of promo set like Bricktober.

Short answer: we get more options!

Glad you pointed out that the title of “First LEGO Store IN Sydney” belongs to the old LEGO Centre store at Birkenhead Point!

  7. Kelvin says:

    Yes!!!

    Finally they open one here!

Very excited as it means there is a way to get polybags, small Lego exclusives sets, etc that are normally under the free shipping threshold on S@H.

Shame this comes after CNY sets.
But better late than never. Hope they open more stores in other states so that WA, SA, etc can also enjoy the privilege.

  8. Jack says:

YESSSS!!!!!! Sucks that it’s at Bondi though, would’ve preferred the city but hey at least Bondi’s closer than Chadstone!!!

    Thanks Jay for the news!

Great to see more stores that will sell hard to find lego stuffs. So does this mean its a real Lego store and not a dreamworld type store? ie can you get VIP points?

    • Jay says:

At this stage, it’s a LEGO certified store – think of it as a franchised LEGO store without ALL the bells and whistles.

Unfortunately that means no VIP points – but don’t rule that out just yet. It seems quite easy to integrate as we have our own Shop @ Home store with VIP points.

In other countries (mostly Asia), they have Certified Stores but no official LEGO.com store, and thus no VIP points.

My prediction is that the store will eventually get VIP points further down the track.

meh. Haven’t been to Sydney in 7years so can’t imagine I’ll rush to this one, but good to see a 3rd store down under. now if they can just start to increase it so there’s more Lego Stores than Myer will be a happy AFOL

    • Jay says:

Why would you want to go when you’re from Melbourne? Heh.

From an article in the AFR, it does seem like they’re planning to expand to other capital cities, so that’ll be good. It would be SO good to have a LEGO store in the CBD I could just pop into at lunchtime to pick things up.

  12. Michael says:

As a Sydneysider, I’m very excited! It’s about an hour away, but hey, it’s closer than Melbourne!

Birkenhead Point! That takes me way back, to when we went there as little kids and Dad’s car stereo got pinched. Those were the days…

    • Jack says:

Ay Bondi’s an hour away from me as well. Shame as I rarely go out in that direction so it’s not like I can ‘pop in’ to collect promos etc…

    • Jay says:

Yeah, the location has been panned quite a bit based on the conversations I’ve been reading – I guess CBD rents were too high?

Yikes, what used to go on at Birkenhead Point? Sounds like a rough part of town, haha.

  13. Legotimbo says:

    Fantastic! And about time.
