LEGO Jurassic World returns in 2019 with new Legend of Isla Nublar Sets!

LEGO Jurassic World lovers rejoice! At the New York Toy Fair, LEGO today announced a brand new theme for 2019 – LEGO Jurassic World Legend of Isla Nublar!

The new Legend of Isla Nublar sets will debut in toy stores globally in Autumn (northern hemisphere) 2019.

The theme is based around a new animated series of the same name, a sequel to LEGO Jurassic World: The Secret Exhibit. The Legend of Isla Nublar mini-series runs 13 episodes and will debut later this year.

But on to the more interesting part of the announcement – new LEGO sets!

LEGO 75938 – T. rex vs Dino-Mech Battle (716 pcs) US$89.99

This set appeals to a very specific childhood fantasy of mine – a giant mecha dinosaur. It seems inspired by MechaGodzilla which is totally great, and I love the outrageous concept of the Dino-Mech.

This set also includes a new T-Rex colour variant for all you T-Rex collectors, and a simple volcano and brick-built yellow raft.

75938 T-Rex vs Dino-Mech Battle comes with 3 minifigs, Owen Grady, Claire Dearing, Vic Hoskins plus a whole troupe of baby Velociraptors Blue, Delta, Echo and Charlie/

LEGO 75937 – Triceratops Rampage (447 pcs) US$59.99

One of the main things that bothered me about the Jurassic World LEGO sets was the absence of what is possibly the best dinosaur-mould of all, the Triceratops which till now has only made one appearance in the 5885 Triceratops Trapper set from 2012’s Dino Attack theme.

Thankfully, that has now been rectified with 75937 Triceratops Rampage, which sees the triumphant return of the LEGO Triceratops, in a brand new stripy colour scheme.

The set comes with 3 minifigures – Owen Grady, Simon Masrani and Allison Miles but really, you’ll be buying this set purely because of the Triceratops. I expect this to be one of the better-selling sets of the theme.

LEGO 75935 – Baryonyx Face-Off: The Treasure Hunt (434 pcs) US$59.99

If the return of the Triceratops wasn’t enough to get you excited for this theme, how about a brand new Dinosaur in the form of a Baryonyx?

This awesome looking dinosaur that looks like a cross between a T-Rex with long legs, and a crocodile is all sorts of Jawesome (sorry!) and I cannot wait to add this to my expansive dino collection.

The set also comes with a rugged looking Jeep that’s pulling a small caravan and a small bit of foliage. There are four minifigs in this set – Danny Nedermeyer, Sinjin Prescott and protagonists Owen Grady and Clare Dearing.

We also get a brand new husky colour variant with an awesome new brown/chocolate coat!

LEGO 75934 – Dilophosaurus on the Loose (168 pcs) US$19.99

For the smallest set of the theme, we have Dilophosaurus on the Loose, which is a small playset that’s built around the Dilophosaurus and a drone.

The Dilophosaurus has made an appearance before in 75931 Dilophosaurus Outpost Attack but the one in this set looks slightly different with a smaller frill as it’s billed to be a a young Dilophosaurus.

The set comes with 3 minifgs, Owen Grady, random Isla Nublar worker and Hudson Harper, a young dinosaur-fanatic.

I’m super pumped by these Legend of Isla Nublar sets! The previous Jurassic World sets didn’t really quite appeal to me (I only bought like 2 of the mid-sized sets) but this new theme will definitely suck me back in with the array of new dinos and also the Dino-Mech.

I love that there’s so much more leeway for the design team here, as they’re obviously not confined by a movie and there’s the possibility of introducing wacky new concepts like a Dino-Mech.

The pricing also seems decent – not as restrictive as I was expecting which is great. I just hope that in Australia, we don’t get stung by crazy markups.

Jurassic World Legend of Isla Nublar sets will release in the 3rd quarter of the year and I can’t wait!

Let me know in the comments if you’re excited by these sets and what your thoughts are!
