Stranger Things comes to LEGO with 75810 The Upside Down. Available now!

Fans of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things are in for a treat as LEGO unveil 75810 The Upside Down, a massive new Creator Expert set that’s available NOW! (be sure to log into your VIP account)

The set weighs in at 2,287 pieces features a detailed recreation of the Byers house, with a clever Stranger Things twist – a mirror-version of the house in the Upside Down, an alternate mirrored dimension where everything is all dark and spooky.

The set will cost US$199.99 and AU$349.99, and will be available from LEGO.com immediately. See below for links and regional pricing:

Huge props to LEGO for pulling off the same-day availability and reveal. I think it’s awesome that fans can order the set the day it’s officially announced.

Also, this is a massive coup for LEGO, landing the Stranger Things license from Netflix. It’s quite possibly the biggest TV show that isn’t Game of Thrones, making it pretty much the hottest license that they have that isn’t Marvel Super Heroes or Star Wars.

As mentioned, the set’s play feature is an ingenious one, with the ability to flip between the normal Byers house and the Upside Down version where it’s all dilapidated and dark, with a Demogorgon minifigure hunting Will, who went missing in the Upside Down.

Both halves of the set is built separately, so you and a partner can both tackle this project at the same time, in anticipation of the Season 3 premiere on Netflix on 4 July 2019.

As with any licensed LEGO set, the minifigures are a huge draw and the set includes eight of your favourite characters from the TV show: Chief Hopper, Joyce Byers, Eleven, Mike, Lucas and Dustin, Will and most excitingly, a Demogorgon Minifigure!

LEGO have thrown in some amazing new hairpieces, and I love how they nailed Dustin’s hair and hat.

The lineup is great although a lot of fans will be upset that fan favourite character Barb isn’t included, but I guess the designers didn’t want to give fans the ability to recreate her death scene with the Demogorgon. I’m sure resourceful LEGO fans will be able to re-create her in minifigure form anyway.

The accessories included are great – I love that Eleven’s look and her favourite food Eggos Waffles are captured which should please fans.

Fans will also be delighted at the inclusion of Hopper’s car, which does seem a bit too orangey for me.

To display the main characters from Stranger Things, the set includes a stand complete with Stranger Things logo.

The set looks really good, especially for fans of the movie. The mirror image effect of The Upside Down is executed beautifully, and makes this quite an eye-catching sight.

Once built, the set measures over 12” (32cm) tall, 17” (44cm) wide and 8” (21cm), making it a pretty sizeable display.

As you can expect from a set of this calibre, it’s packed with all sorts of Easter eggs and references from the show, such as the Alphabet Wall that Will uses to communicate with his mum.

The rooms are a little compact, but allow you to squeeze in at least 2 minifigures, which should make for great photo opportunities.

For me, I think The Upside Down is the more interesting feature of the set, giving you the option to set up scenes where Will is being hunted by the Demogorgon.

All in all, I think LEGO have their hands on a winner here, especially for the legions of Stranger Things fans, many of whom will undoubtedly make this their first foray into LEGO.

My sources initially told me that there were more Stranger Things sets on the way, and in the press release, LEGO described this as the “first” set, seemingly suggesting that there’s more to this partnership than this one set, which is really exciting.

I’m not a massive Stranger Things fan as I don’t really enjoy horror-themed movies or shows, but I made it through Season 1, so I’ll most likely give this one a miss.

But that said, I really liked what LEGO have done with the set. The minifigures are great, and the design does really clever things delivering the Upside Down version of the Byers House, and should make an amazing display showpiece for fans of the TV show.

Because the house is essentially mirroring itself, I love how trippy it looks.

So what do you think of the set? Do you love the show and are you planning to purchase it? Let me know what you think in the comments!

Actually for the past decade+ LEGO sets have been about .13-.14 cents a piece (USD) this is actually cheaper for a change. Usually a 2,200 set would be about $300.00 or so, but at $200.00 USD, this is about .9 cents a piece.
    I’m snagging this ASAP.
I LOVE Stranger Things! I do hope we get a few more sets though…
1.) A set of the bus scene in season 2 with Demodogs, Dustin, Lucas, Max, and Steve with his bat. 🙂
2.) A set with Demodogs, Bob, Hospital Hopper, Will, Joyce, Mike, Dr. Owens, and some MP Officers.
3.) A set with Max, Billy, and Lucas from the arcade.
4.) Hopper and Eleven in the elevator closing the gate with some Demodogs.
5.) Minifigure series that has all the characters so I can get all versions of each character from seasons 1-2… maybe 3 too. 🙂
And one from season One with Nancy, Jonathan, and Steve fighting the Demogorgan.

Yeah, I think this is great value. I don’t really like the price per piece measurement to gauge whether a set is good value, LEGO can artificially manipulate that number (or get it close to the golden 0.10 per piece ratio subscribed to by LEGO fans).

With how well Season 3 is going, and how much Netflix wants to build an entire franchise around the show, I absolutely think that we could see more sets, hopefully in 2020.

I am slightly disappointed that you didn’t include a Barb minifigure!!!

    Looks awesome!

  3. Ben says:

According to lego, the exchange rate must be about $1 AUD = US 0.57 …

    • Elphie says:

US prices seem lower than they actually are, because sales tax isn’t included yet. Unless one lives in the rare sales-tax free state, the final price can increase by up to 13.5%. And prices are actually the highest in their homeland of Denmark, so the rest of us don’t have it that bad by comparison.

  4. Ivy says:

Love the show, details are spot on. The boys in minifig are adorable! But this is where I can separate my passion for lego and the show. Won’ t be buying this set. Unlike Harry Potter or Ninjago city where we can read the books/ watch the movies and expand the universe in Lego (kids and myself). This really is a display set with limited playability and my kids have never see the show.

I think you better amend your “huge prop to Lego for same day reveal/availability” statement as it’s 1.38 pm in the afternoon on May 15th in Australia and still not available to VIPs on Lego S@H. What gives Lego Australia? Is this another teaser?…a glitch in the ‘upside-down’ so to speak.

    • Mark G says:

To update; it finally became available some time late afternoon and almost instantly went on “backorder, will ship 28th May”. Way to balls up another highly anticipated release Lego Australia.?

  6. Ben Teoh says:

Yikes, that price. Pretty clever build though, it’s a great concept.

  7. Joe says:

Since the roller coaster came out on May 15 last year (and I bought right away), I was saving waiting for a big May 15 reveal this year. But as I’ve never seen Stranger Things, it’s easy for me to pass on this and save for the new Harry Potter sets coming out next month. Still, the imagination that went into creating this set looks pretty impressive.

  8. Mark says:

Availability on the Lego site says 1st of June. Which is a shame, because it’s pay day today. 😀

    • Elphie says:

It just became available on the US site now – the 15 May release date only applies to VIPs though. 1 June in-stores and for non-VIP customers
