Adelaide LEGO Store to open 12 December 2020!

Here’s some good news for Radelaide – South Australia is set to get their very first LEGO Certified Store in the next few months!

Update: We now have an opening date for Adelaide’s first LEGO Certified Store – 12 December 2020 at 9am!

Located at Westfield Marion in prime retail positioning on level 2, the 197sqm. The opening date isn’t known yet, but Alceon (the group that runs LEGO Certified Stores in Australia and NZ) have committed to it opening before Christmas.

The size is about two-thirds of the Bondi Store (302 sqms) and is similar in size to the Queensland Robina and Chermside stores (188 & 236 sqm). Its slightly larger than the Doncaster Store, which is between 150 and 270 square metres.

What can you expect? Check out my posts about the Doncaster or Bondi Junction LEGO certified stores.

The new LEGO Certified Store will incorporate signature LEGO retail features including a Pick A Brick Wall, a Build-a-Minifigure playstation and a ‘digital box’ where almost any LEGO boxed set can be scanned and come to life.

Additional custom features include a large brick wall-mounted mosaic and an over-size 3D model inspired by South Australian icons.

As to what the oversized 3D model is? My money is either on a serial killer (Adelaide is the serial killer capital of Australia), a massive Farmers Union Iced Coffee, or maybe a giant 60 speed limit sign (most Adelaide roads cap out at 60 km/h).

All in all, this is fantastic news for Adelaide LEGO fans, as they finally have easy access to Pick a Brick, and other LEGO Store experiences.

I spend a lot of time in Adelaide so I’m hoping that borders open up by Christmas so I can pay a visit to the new LEGO Store.

The location is slightly inconvenient as Westfield Marion is not exactly central (tough luck if you live in the East, or Northern Suburbs) and I was really hoping for it to be situated in Rundle Mall in the CBD, but hey, it’s better than nothing.

If you call South Australia home, let me know if you’re excited for it!

Does anyone know if the date of when the new Lego will open has been announced and if it hasn’t who will be the person to announce it?

you’re very offensive to Adelaideans and SA people. Obviously come from the eastern sea board. this state has many wonderful features that could be modelled, and you pick the offensive ones. Stay away from this wonderful state please.

Hi I have man sized lego figurine for sale and was wondering if you were interested in purchasing or know where I could try to sell it. I can send photos if you are interested. Thanks Maryanne

This is really exciting for local south Australian Lego builders. Can’t wait to have access to a pick a brick wall and all the other awesome features. I’m lucky to be in the southern suburbs too so this is very exciting!

I can’t wait to check the store out! I’ve tentatively booked my flights for Christmas (in anticipation of borders re-opening), so fingers crossed the Covid situation continues to improve!

I am so pump hearing this news, Lego the best.

    • Jay says:

Yeah, Adelaide has a really vocal and passionate fan community (more so than NSW if I may say), so this has been a deserved reward for you guys!

  6. Anthony Eggins says:

I’m in the North East but won’t be complaining about the drive to get there. I’m just shocked we’re getting a Lego store!

  7. Daisy says:

Great, now only a 12-hour drive one way to the nearest Lego store instead of a 20-hour drive!

  8. Jason Loh says:

some corrections sir, the most common speed limit in Adelaide is 50, which drives me nuts. I Farmer’s Union Iced Coffee sculpture would be awesome or a model of the Festival Theatre would also be good. Serial killers? no thanks BTW haven’t had any for a few years now…….LOL. I live 10min from Marion so travel is not a problem for me woo hoo

    • Jay says:

Hahaha! Spoken like a true local. Did they drop it to 50 for most major roads?

I think it’d be criminal if we dont get a FUIC model. Hope it isn’t something boring like Malls Balls.

      • Matt says:

No major roads are 60. Most of ya side streets where its mainly houses is 50 due to kids maybe playing in front yards etc. We have a hand full of expressways now an most of them are 100km. Marion would have to be the worst place to put it as its a crap shopping center as its not set out very well. Its almost like a maze, unlike others which have a simple easy to get around set up. Yea should have had it in the Myer center, back in the days top floor was dazzle land an also had a huge lego land

        • Jay says:

Haha, I’m just kidding (kinda). I have family in the North East, so it constantly seems like I’m going at 60 through Magill, Payneham and North East Road.

Yeah, Marion’s age and layout is really showing, but I don’t think it’s as bad as TTP.

I guess CBD rents are still pretty expensive.

Good news that in the current climate Alceon’s retail network is still expanding. Patiently waiting for Canberra’s store. 😉

    • Jay says:

Probably works in their favour with other retailers pulling out of shopping centres. Does Scomo like LEGO? Maybe you should lobby him on it 😉
