Photos from Brickvention, Melbourne 2014

January 24, 2014 By Jay Ong 4 Comments

So last Saturday was a pretty exciting affair. I finally managed to go for my very first Brickvention, an AFOL-convention that’s held annually in Melbourne. Somehow, I’ve always managed to narrowly miss it for the past 2 years. This year’s was held at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton. Firstly, I have to apologize for…

Review: Lego 60013 – Coast Guard Helicopter

August 10, 2013 By Jay Ong 5 Comments

Finally, a refreshing alternative to the tons of Lord of the Rings sets that I’ve been building recently. I received the Coast Guard Helicopter as one of the many gifts from this year’s haul from Reddit’s Arbitrary Day from an extremely generous American soldier. The Coast Guard Helicopter is a brand new helicopter from this year’s…

Review: Lego 10237 – The Tower of Orthanc

August 5, 2013 By Jay Ong 29 Comments

It took me awhile to write this review, largely because of how long it took to build this monstrosity. The Tower of Orthanc is the crown jewel of the Lego’s The Lord of The Rings sets. Towering above the rest at 2359 pieces, I knew I had to get my grubby hands on this set…

Update: About the Australian release date for Series 11, my local Lego specialty store I’m Rick James Bricks has confirmed that they’ll launch in Australia in September 2013! Not too long now before we get our hands on them! Brickset has just published the instruction leaflet for Series 11 after it surfaced in Poland! Some initial thoughts: I was right about…

Leaked Lego Collectible Minifigures Series 11 Have Surfaced!

June 13, 2013 By Jay Ong 1 Comment

Yesterday, Lego news sites got in a frenzy when a possible first look at Series 11 emerged on the web from a  Brickshelf user adjken. Here we are! These seem to be pretty legit and not custom minifigs as the details and design look very well done and have that trademark Collectible Minifigures look. This also…

Today is the 15th and final day of the Lunar New Y Today is the 15th and final day of the Lunar New Year, also known as Chap Goh Mei (15th night in the Hokkien dialect), Yuan Xiao Jie, Chinese Valentine's Day or the Lantern Festival! 🏮

It marks the end of the Lunar New Year celebrations, and is celebrated in a myriad of ways, such as eating tangyuan (glutinous rice balls) over dinner, and visiting temples to pray good fortune for the coming year.

The celebration was famously depicted in 80107 Spring Lantern Festival, designed by @justinramsden and released in 2020.

Here's my Classic Space take on Chap Goh Mei as we conclude the Lunar New Year festivities!

Happy Chap Goh Mei to everyone celebrating!

Mia is all grown up now! Here's a comparison of Mia is all grown up now!

Here's a comparison of Mia, from her very first minidoll on the left (from 3188 Heartlake Vet), to her last appearance as a teenager in 41717 Mia's Wildlife Rescue, and on the right, as an adult in 41730 Autumn's House!

She's now a mum to Autumn, and it's kinda surreal seeing her grow like this.

FYI: LEGO Friends had a bit of a redesign in 2018, which is why Mia's appearance changed slightly.
