Happy 2×4 Day 2017! Announcing the winners from the 2×4 Build Challenge!

The day’s finally here, 2 x 4 Day aka 2 April in Australian/UK/everywhere else in the world date format. 2×4 Day is a fan-created global day of LEGO play.

To commemorate the date this year, I put a call out for a 2×4 build challenge where I tasked you guys with building something out of only 2 x 4 bricks.

I was pretty floored by the entries received and I have to say that this was one of the toughest challenges that I’ve ever had to judge. It was pretty close and there were plenty of fantastic entries from LEGO fans from all different age groups, but I’m pretty confident with my choice.

I really enjoyed seeing and reading about all the different creations, and I have to say that I was very impressed by the sheer levels of creativity on display.

Special thanks once again to LEGO for providing the prizes for this build challenge.

So without further ado, here are the winners of the 2 x 4 Build Challenge!

Congratulations to Jeffrey Kong for this utterly delightful rendition of Tetris Bricks! He described his design as “Here is my tribute to a true classic. Can you recognise all the seven Tetris pieces here? :)”

Jeffrey takes the 1st prize of 1x 31065 Park Street Townhouse, 1x 31063 Beachside Vacation & 1x 10704 Creative Box.

I’d also like to congratulate the two runner-up winners:

Antonia Averes’ charming build called “Tsunami”! It’s a really simple but effective design and I love how the shape of the wave was captured – no mean feat considering the limitation of only using 2 x 4 bricks!

Elliot Bryant’s “Space shuttle with external tank and rocket boosters built entirely out of 2×4 bricks.” There’s just something really cool about this space shuttle’s blocky design. What really sold me on this was the flames at the bottom and the orange rocket booster at the back!

The runner-ups will receive a prize pack containing 1x 31058 Mighty Dinosaurs & 1x 10703 Creative Builder Box!

Congratulations to the 3 winners! It was a really tight field of competition, and it was really difficult picking these designs, but these stood out by being the most charming, and demonstrated really clever and effective use of only 2 x 4 bricks!

I’ll be in touch over email in the coming days to sort out the delivery of prizes!

I also want to feature all the entries that came in, as there were some really fun and excellent designs here as well!

Sarah T “This is a double sided Minifigure bust. The side with the blue shirt is inspired by classic Minifigures with caps and the other side is a jogger with a headband.”

(I thought this reversible minifig head was really clever! I’m going to have to build one of these myself)

Matt H “It’s a cut-out of Ole Christiansen’s house, because it’s the most important part of LEGO’s history because his house is where LEGO started. I also added a red 2 x 4 because it’s the first LEGO piece.

We must remember how important Ole and his family were, since so many people forget how it all started.”
