Welcome to March! The year is absolutely flying by – I’m still not 100% convinced that it’s 2015. I still catch myself writing 2014 when filling in dates, ugh.
Month in Review is a monthly recap of top stories and highlights of the month and is a great place to catch up on any reviews or news articles you might have missed from the month.
February was a pretty good month with 16 posts in total. February was also mostly about DC Super Heroes, and I almost completed reviewing all the sets from the Justice League 2015 theme, so yay. I still think I can do better in March, but work is going to get pretty busy for me so hopefully I’ll be able to find time to write.
Let’s see what were the top stories on Jay’s Brick Blog in February 2015. You can click on the images to take you to the corresponding posts.
Reviews
76025 Green Lantern vs Sinestro : Green Lantern makes his debut in a LEGO set in spectacular fashion with a fun build and a great cast of supporting characters in the form of Space-Batman and his archnemesis, Sinestro. Score – 4/5
76027 Black Manta Deep Sea Strike: A very costly letdown with average minifigures which included a recycled Aquaman. An excellent Black Manta minifigure and his Sea Saucer were the only redeeming quality of an otherwise lacklustre Super Heroes set. Score – 2/5
76040 Brainiac Attack : The recipe for a winning DC Super Heroes set seems obvious – make it below AU$50 and fill it with great minifigs. Brainiac Attack scores points for 4 highly desirable DC characters and an amazingly designed ship. Score – 4/5
70818 Double Decker Couch : Emmet’s Double Decker Couch scores a perfect 5 out of 5 for packing so much awesome value into an attractively priced set. A must-buy for any LEGO Movie fan. Score – 5/5
60073 Service Truck – Hats off to the hard-working Service Truck crew who strive to ensure that construction sites across LEGO City have proper working sanitation facilities. Buy this set if you’ve always wanted a LEGO portable toilet. Score – 4/5
40148 Lunar New Year 2015 Sheep – An Asian-only exclusive to commemorate the Year of the Sheep/Ram/Goat, this was a fun brick-built animal that came in nifty Chinese New Year-themed packaging. Score – 4/5
News and Happenings
Marvel Helicarrier Australian Price and Release Details – February was dominated by Helicarrier news, with Marvel’s biggest ever set priced for the local Australian market at $500 which was a lot cheaper than most expected. The VIP release also revealed a Winter Soldier polybag for early adopters.
Spider-Man gets permission to come home to Marvel – Another awesome news with possible implications for future Avengers-themed LEGO set when Sony finally relented and announced that they would be allowing Marvel to use Spider-Man in the MCU. This bodes well for fans who have been waiting on Spider-Man to team up with The Avengers on-screen.
Valentine’s Day 2015: To celebrate Valentine’s Day, I photographed 14 of my favourite LEGO couples.
Make your own LEGO Oscar Statuette If you have a lot of Yellow and Black bricks lying around, you too can make your very own Oscar statuette!
What is the LEGO Elves theme?: Find out about the next evolution of the minidoll in this exciting new fantasy theme featuring an otherworldly cast of characters and a bevy of beautiful new parts!
That’s for the February monthly recap. What was your favourite story from last month, let me know in the comments!
