More LEGO Toy Story 4 sets revealed!

This weekend has been immense for new 2019 LEGO reveals, and now we’ve got our hands on four new LEGO Toy Story 4 sets that were unveiled at the New York Toy Fair.

The fourth instalment of Pixar’s beloved Toy Story series is set to hit theatres on 21 June 2019, and with the movie release also comes with a slew of LEGO (and Duplo) sets that will be available in April 2019.

Firstly, if you feel like these sets look a little basic and bare-bones, that’s totally by design as the Toy Story 4 sets will be released under the LEGO 4+ (previously known as Juniors) theme, which is aimed at young builders who are a little too old for Duplo, but are not quite ready for full-blown System sets.

Here’s a quick preview of the Toy Story 4 LEGO sets revealed so far!

LEGO 10766 Woody and RC (69 pcs) US$9.99

The smallest Toy Story 4 set includes a Woody minifigure and RC, the radio-controlled car.

This set is as basic as they come, but include some very familiar Toy Story elements such as orange traffic cones, toy blocks and green army men microfigs!

LEGO 10769 – RV Vacation (178 pcs) US$34.99

RV Vacation includes a small recreation vehicle, a lodge and some boom gates.

The set comes with Jessie, the return of Rex, a Alien and Forky, a new character voiced by Tony Hale (who famously played Buster Bluth in Arrested Development).

For a small set, there seems to be quite a ltp of play potential here, and the addition of the Jessie minifigure and Rex should make this a pretty popular set.

LEGO 10770 – Buzz and Woody Carnival Mania (230 pcs) US$49.99

I posted about this yesterday on the Jay’s Brick Blog Facebook page so here it is again.

Climbing up the price ladder is this carnival-based set with a whopping 5 characters which include Woody, Buzz Light year, Bo Peep in her (Rey-inspired) battle attire, as well as new additions Ducky & Bunny who are voiced by Key and Peele.

Key and Peele are one of my favourite comedy duos, so I can’t wait to see more of them in Toy Story 4.

Bo Peep has never made an appearance as a LEGO minifigure, so this is one of the sets I’m most looking forward to.

LEGO 10771 – Carnival Thrill Coaster (98 pcs) US$19.99

Lastly, it wouldn’t be a carnival without slem sort of Roller Coaster which includes Buzz Lightyeare and a Toy Story Alien.

It doesn’t pack as many unique characters as the other set, but for a US$20 set, the inclusion of Buzz and the play features of the Roller Coaster slightly make up for it.

The big change with these Toy Story 4 sets are the LEGO minifigure heads, which have replaced the moulded heads from previous LEGO Toy Story themes.

Judging from the conversation on Facebook, this design change seems to be quite divisive with fans!

Personally, I do like the traditional minifig heads! I think they look very charming, with the iconic minifigure silhouette. The facial expressions are also way more expressive and there’s just something quite cute about them in this form.

A big omission for me is the lack of long legs for Woody and Jessie which I think is a huge miss. It could be that the moulds for those legs are no longer available, but I felt like they were what made the first Toy Story theme special.

The lack of other characters is also a little disappointing. I hope that there are other sets that haven’t been revealed yet, as I’d love to see some other core characters like Mr Potato Head and maybe even Slinky.

These sets being 4+ might also turn off Adult LEGO fans who might want more substantial sets and builds.

That said, there’s good news as there are also non 4+ sets that are yet to be revealed, so watch this space for updates!

That said, still looking forward to these sets as I love all things Toy Story! What do you think of the sets and the minifigs? Let me know in the comments!
