21058 Great Pyramid of Giza sends the LEGO Architecture theme to Ancient Egypt!

The LEGO Architecture theme heads into Ancient Egypt, with the official reveal of 21058 Great Pyramid of Giza, a stunning re-creation of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

The 1476-piece set, which will retail for US$129.99 will be released on 1 June 2022 for Europe, Australia and the rest of world, and on 1 August 2022 in North America. It will be available from LEGO.com and from your local LEGO store.

Go back to 26 BC, experience of one of the Seven Wonders in LEGO form

This is a very exciting direction for LEGO’s Architecture theme, and I think one of the greatest structures ever built by man, notwithstanding an ancient civilisation is a terrific subject matter for Architecture.

The Pyramid is represented at the height of its glory, encased in highly polished blocks of white limestone, which have now all but been stripped off. A gleaming golden obelisk tops the Pyramids, and the River Nile (creative liberties taken), is also represented with feluccas (ancient boats).

You can remove the outer white layer, to reveal the interiors, its main tunnels and chambers. Unfortunately, as you can see from the photos, you’re only getting half the Pyramid, so if you want a proper true Pyramid, you’ll have to buy 2 sets and combine both of them.

Here are some of the smaller details, such as the system that may have been used to move huge stones during its construction, how this area by the River Nile is thought to have looked in ancient times, 2 small pyramids, 2 mortuary temples, Sphinx statues, an obelisk and more.

It’s quite a decently sized display model, measuring over 8 in. (20 cm) high, 13.5 in. (35cm) wide and 12.5 in. (32 cm) deep.

In addition to being quite a classy-looking model, I think the LEGO Great Pyramid of Giza also works really well as an educational model, and will hopefully stir up some interest in Ancient Egypt.

I love history, and Ancient Civilisations, so this is on my to-buy list for sure. I think the price is okay, but kinda miffed that you’re only getting half a Pyramid, but as an ornamental display piece, you can’t complain about the aesthetics, and how well this will look in your home.

I love this direction that the LEGO Architecture theme is headed towards, and would absolutely love more Ancient Wonders of the World captured at this scale.

What do you think of the LEGO Great Pyramid of Giza? Do you like the theme headed to more ancient times?

I’d love to see the Hanging Gardens of Babylon as another of the seven ancient wonders of the world. With any luck, this might be the start of a series of those wonders. They would make an amazing subtheme all grouped together.

oh man. I like it, and would have bought it… but the half-a-pyramid thing just lost me. And I dont’ like it enough to buy and build 2! oh well.

  3. Nick Gaston says:

This looks amazing and much better than what I was expecting when I heard they were making the set. It’s also really cool that they did the set as it was in ancient times instead of what it is like today. It makes me think they may do some of the other Ancient Wonder sets that are no longer around. I would love to see a LEGO set for the hanging gardens of Babylon.
