A LEGO Bluey set could become a reality, hitting 10,000 votes on LEGO Ideas
I don’t usually post about LEGO Ideas fan designs hitting 10,000 votes but this one is particularly relevant to my interests. BLUEY!, a fan design submitted TFOL (Teenage Fan of LEGO) Monkey Scout has blistered its way to 10,000 votes and has qualified to be in the second review of 2022, giving it a chance to become an official LEGO set.
For real life!?
For the uninitiated, Bluey is an Australian-made animated cartoon depicting a 6-year old Blue Heeler puppy and the Heeler family, Bandit (dad!), Chilli (mum!), Bingo (younger sister), and is set in suburban Queensland.
It’s insanely popular in Australia but has also started making waves internationally, and is pretty much considered one of Australia’s best exports alongside iron ore and Chris Hemsworth.
As a young dad, I relate to Bandit on a spiritual level, and if you haven’t already, I thoroughly recommend checking the series out as kids love it, but it’s also so good that adults and parents are equally obsessed with it because of how relatable and wholesome it is.
The fan design is one of the fastest ever to hit 10,000 votes on LEGO Ideas! It was submitted on 15 August, and hit the 1,000 votes milestone in only a few hours, crossing 5,000 votes a day later, and finally hit the 10,000 vote-mark only 2 days later on 17 August.
Wackadoo!
The sheer speed in which it hit 10,000 votes has to be admired, and speaks volumes about the cultural relevance of Bluey, but also how great Monkey Scout’s design is, capturing the Heeler family home. The only other time I can remember a LEGO Ideas fan project hitting 10,000 this quick is Baba Yaga, which got there in less than 24 hours.
I got so many DMs and messages about this from Aussie parents, and you can immediately tell that a lot of care and consideration has gone into the design. Personally, I LOVE the little Chattermax printed on a minifigure head.
Now just because the Bluey project has hit 10,000 votes, it doesn’t mean that this will become an official LEGO set. It still has to go through the LEGO Ideas review process but given how huge of a phenomenon Bluey is globally, and how well it translates to LEGO… I was initially doubtful, but I can see this having a bit of potential.
The size of the set (almost 3,000 pieces) might be a stumbling block as it’ll cost quite a bit, but… LEGO if you’re reading this, me (and thousands of other parents) will be happy to part with my dollarbucks for this set.
In the immortal words of Bandit “it’s gotta be done!”
Congratulations once again to Monkey Scout for this incredible achievement!
