2023 is set to be a great year for Australian LEGO fans, as LEGO has officially revealed 40651 Australia Postcard, which will be released on 1 January 2023.
LEGO’s buildable postcard series takes a visit Down Under, joining London, Beijing, Paris and New York, but instead of highlighting skyscrapers and other important manmade landmarks, the LEGO Australia Postcard pays homage to the Australian outback, and our rich natural heritage.
40651 Australia Postcard will be available from LEGO.com and your local LEGO stores. These small Creator sets tend to be LEGO exclusives so won’t pop up at general retail, so you’ll have to buy them online, or make the trip to a LEGO Store to pick one up.
There’s a lot going on here, and I love how they captured the blue sky and clouds, along with a cheeky Qantas plane in the top corner. There’s a tin windmill, outback station with tin roof, a dunny (outhouse), as well as a gumtree with a cockatoo perched in it.
Tying everything together is one of Australia’s most iconic symbols, a Kangaroo road sign (yes, we do have to watch out for kangaroos darting across roads Down Under), as well as a printed Australian tile.
We’re finally getting plenty of Australian references in LEGO sets in 2023, and joining 31133 White Rabbit (which has a Cockatoo alternate model), and Series 24’s Conservationist which comes with a Koala, 2023 is set to be a very exciting year for us Down Under.
Can’t wait to add the LEGO Koala to this Postcard!

This is terrible, what happened to using iconic places for these postcard, France gets it Eiffel tower, we get a bush hut instead of the wonderful Opera house and Sydney harbour Bridge. Not happy Lego.
It’s definitely interesting but I think a fair compromise to represent the entirety of Australia, as opposed to an East Coast city like they’ve done in the past.

Indeed. Perhaps we also need a 150-in-1 Creator set of things in Australia that can kill you ;). Might be hard though to make a Blue Ringed Octopus out of the pieces for a Redback…

Would have preferred a Sydney postcard, with Opera House, Harbour Bridge & Sydney Tower (set on the water’s edge, with a blue sky), but I guess we have the Architecture set for that!

True story – never mind looking out for kangaroos on the road, we were woken last night by one on the roof. Luckily it was able to jump off and hop away under its own steam.
Anyway, it’s always great to see Australian sets, but this just seems a bit cringy to me. We are more than outback dunnies and cockatoos – there are many many natural and human landmarks. That said, the designer has done well to fit so much in a small footprint. I imagine this will sell well around the world, as I guess that’s what people would expect in a set about Australia.
Great to see somebody’s on our side in Billund. I’ll even forgive them for the oversized Cockatoo! I can attest firsthand to the dangers of ‘roos darting out in front of you on our roads (nighttime, big male Eastern Grey, thank God for the bullbar!)
