First Look: New 2021 LEGO Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous sets

June 2, 2021 By Jay 9 Comments

LEGO Dinosaur fans are in for more prehistoric goodness as LEGO.com has given us the first look at five all-new 2021 Jurassic World sets that will be released on 1 September 2021!

The sets are based on the Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous animated series which streams on Netflix, and introduces some new re-colours of existing dinosaurs.

  • Baryonyx
  • Carnotaurus
  • Stygimoloch
  • T.rex fossil

There are four new dinosaurs included – a Baryonyx, Carnotaurus, and Stygimoloch, and a cool new T.rex fossil/skeleton – there are no new species introduced (sorry Mosasaurus or Stegosaurus fans!) as these are all re-colours of existing LEGO dinosaur species.

The new dinosaurs can be found in the following sets

  • Baryonyx: 76942 Baryonyx Dinosaur Boat Escape [Buy from Amazon]
  • Carnotaurus: 76941 Carnotaurus Dinosaur Chase [Buy from Amazon]
  • Stygimoloch: 76939 Stygimoloch Dinosaur Escape [Buy from Amazon]
  • T.Rex Skeleton: 76940 T. rex Dinosaur Fossil Exhibition [Buy from Amazon]

There’s also a new Duplo set 10939 T. rex and Triceratops Dinosaur Breakout that is already available in Australia and the UK, with the USA getting it on 1 August 2021.

I think this selection is really neat, especially if you’re a fan of LEGO Jurassic World and LEGO dinosaurs like I am. I was pleasant surprised by the prices, which seem fairly accessible and not too predatory – which is not what you normally expect from the LEGO Jurassic World theme.

These sets seem targeted less at adults, and more to younger kids who are familiar with the Camp Cretaceous TV show.

My favourites from this wave would have to be the excellent 76940 T. rex Dinosaur Fossil Exhibition as well as the 76939 Stygimoloch Dinosaur Escape, which a 4+ kiddiefied Jurassic Park jeep.

Here’s a guide and official photos of the upcoming September 2021 wave of LEGO Jurassic World sets!

    I want that there are for the next Lego Jurassic World : a remake Tyrannosaurus Rex figure with the tip of his upper jaw a little wider and the top of his head just above his eyes less extended;
a remake Velociraptor figure based on the JP3 male Velociraptor with the head narrower, the jaws a little longer, the tail a little longer, the feet a little shorter, thorns or proto-feathers behind the head and the ridges near the eyes.

An Archaeopteryx would be superb! But yeah, surprised that we didn’t get more Raptors in this wave!

I really like the T. Rex skeleton on its stand with the complementary drawing board. Plus a bonus baby Triceratops!

Same here. Pleasant surprised that the T.Rex skeleton isn’t going to cost a bomb as well!

I think both helmets are excellent additions to the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection. Both Phase 1 and Phase 2 Clone Trooper helmets translate incredibly well, and there are some masterful sculpting techniques and great use of negative space to get the look just right.

I have to say that I much prefer Commander Cody out of the two, because of the 212th's orange markings, and cool features like the visor and fin. Captain Rex, while having some cutting-edge building techniques have some really poorly colour-match stickers which distract from the otherwise great build.

Will you be planning on picking any of these up?

Special thanks to @lego for sending these early review sets over!
