First look at all the new LEGO Vidiyo sets – Beatboxes and Bandmates!

February 16, 2021 By Jay Ong 19 Comments

LEGO have officially unveiled all the sets from the first wave of VIDIYO – its newest, wacky, Tik-Tok meets augmented reality meets LEGO theme.

The first wave of sets will see a mix of 6 Beatboxes and 12 Bandmates that will be released on 1 March 2021.

You can also download the app on the App Store (iOS) or on Google Play (Android)

The six BeatBoxes and 12 Bandmate characters introduced today are:

Each beatbox will retail US$19 / AU$25.99 / €19 and the Bandmates (which come in the blindbag format) are US$4.99 / AU$$5.99 / €19, so not too pricey!

Given the way Target have been advertising Lego Vidiyo on their website and in their newsletter, I’m wondering whether this theme will be exclusive to Target.

Despite both website and newsletter stating coming 1 March, my local Target had some on the shelf this morning. Beatboxes scanning at $22 and Bandmate blind boxes $5. They only had the DJ Unicorn and Punk Pirate Beatboxes so I passed on them. I did get 2 Bandmate blind boxes – the wolf and the purple genie with the tamborine. It was a full box and I picked the 4th one from the front and the last one, both on the right hand side. Don’t know which minifigure was in which spot as the boxes got mixed up, but that might help someone.

As someone who can identify minifigures in blind bags and doesn’t have money to waste, I don’t like blind boxes. At least all the Lego inside is in a plastic bag

There won’t be any retail exclusivity for Vidiyo – it’s a wide release and will be available everywhere.

Lucky you, I’ve been waiting for them to pop up in my local Kmart but no luck yet!

I don’t like blind boxes too, but at least it’ll be (slightly) better for the environment.

These are some of the most vibrant, crazy minifigure designs I’ve ever seen. I want all of them!! (Well, except the fairly ordinary cowboy and dude in the purple helmet… Sorry to them, but contrasted with the wacky animals, supernatural creatures, and living ice cream, they just don’t stand out anymore.)

The cheerleader looks like a take on the N-Pop Girl from the Ninjago CMF series…

Well, maybe she’s half-cotton-candy 😛 I forgot about the cheerleader, the bright pink-and-blue makes her stand out more than the other 2 humans IMO.

Hmm, a lot of those fig parts could be useful for figbarfing space, sci-fi and cyberpunk figs, and the BeatBits would be useful for LP covers or posters.

I’m unsure of the box parts, though, possibly they could be used for air vents/ locks or windows or something, depending on how they are constructed. I’d wait for a review…

Yes, I really hope we get some of these parts seen in the app. Some really cool torso designs you can unlock and stuff within it.

Lego is constantly cancelling themes after 2-3 years, if the sales aren’t considered impressive enough. If the theme performs worse than expected, the shelf time could be reduced to 1-2 years.

Ninjago was supposed to be cancelled after only three years, but the sales were unexpectedly good, so it stuck as a core theme, where designers were allowed to experiment with new sub-themes.

While the theme is not of any interest to me, I like the look of some of those minifigs. Also you called Party Llama’s name in your initial post

Here's an official look at the newly announced 762 Here's an official look at the newly announced 76262 Captain America's Shield, coming 1 September 2023!

It joins the other collection of large Marvel things like Mjolnir, Black Panther Bust, Nano/Infinity Gauntlet and Iron Man helmet.

Unfortunately, the lack of utility with this means that it's mostly a display piece, albeit a very large one.

Looking at the back of the shield, and having gotten an opportunity to see this set a few months ago, it's really not recommended to carry it.

And it also looks like you can't hang it up, so it's meant to just sit in it's stand.

But... It's big, I guess? 🤷‍♂️

Here's my review of 41757 Botanical Garden, hands Here's my review of 41757 Botanical Garden, hands down one of THE best sets of 2023 and a gleaming beacon of just how far the LEGO Friends theme has matured.

When you see the LEGO Friends Botanical Garden, it quickly becomes apparent that LEGO have something special on their hands with a design that's simply beautiful.

Hit the link in bio to read my full review!

It's truly a mark of a mature theme, that LEGO could debut a tasteful design like this into LEGO Friends, but crafted in such a way that it will also have broad appeal to City builders, or even fans who want a stunning architectural masterpiece to display their minifigures or minidolls in.

With so many amazing designs and sets being produced by Billund, 41757 Botanical Garden deservedly takes it's place as one of the best LEGO sets of 2023 and I can heartily recommend this set to everyone, and I have a gut feeling that this will be one of the best-selling LEGO Friends set of the year.
