IMAX Melbourne to hold advance screenings of The LEGO Movie 2 in February!

January 15, 2019 By Jay Ong 4 Comments

THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!

IMAX Melbourne will be holding Special Preview Screening sessions on 9 and 10 February 2019 for The LEGO Movie 2!

YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT, they’ll be holding four special screenings of The LEGO Movie 2 that weekend, ahead of the official Australian release date on 21 March 2019.

GO BUY TICKETS NOW – THESE WILL SELL OUT SUPER FAST ONCE WORD GETS OUT.

Yes, just like The LEGO Batman Movie AND the First LEGO Movie, the pack of incompetent buffoons at Village Roadshow are once again delaying the release of one of the most anticipated movies of 2019 by FOURTY ONE (41) DAYS. It was originally 48 days, but it seems like they’re moving the Australian premiere date forward by about a week.

Anyway, I was ready to write a post informing everyone that I’ll be boycotting the movie once again, but this is a very surprising (and welcome) change.

Yes, they’re making the same idiotic mistake that led to The LEGO Batman Movie flopping in theatres Down Under. Evidently, Graham Burke is officially senile and is rapidly losing control over his company, because of you know, mismanagement and treating the movie business like the 1980s.

Looks like the message that we sent them the last time when we organised a boycott and online protest against Village Roadshow did get through and I think this is a great move to ensure that LEGO fans get to watch it at about the same time as everyone in the world.

Here’s what I wrote in 2016.

I don’t think it’s too much to ask for Village Roadshow to hold several limited screenings to give LEGO and Batman fans the chance to enjoy The LEGO Batman Movie at the same time as the rest of the world, ahead of a wider Australian release in March to hit the school holiday crowd.

So yeah, obviously, I am really lucky to be living in Melbourne. I have no idea if this will roll out to other states and if other cinemas will be holding special advance screening sessions, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they do.

I’ll keep a lookout for other showtimes and special screenings across the country.

For once, I can say, good job Village Roadshow for actually admitting that you shat the bed previously, and are trying to make up for your mistakes.

Does it absolutely absolve you from delaying the wider release of the movie by 41 days, but it’s a solid gesture. So thank you.

I am going to give super brownie points to the IMAX Melbourne team for running this. I actually think they’re the ones responsible for this and I’m never prouder to be a Museum Member and supporter.

I really hope they’ll be rolling this out nationwide so people can get the chance to watch The LEGO Movie 2 at the same time as everyone else.

I’ll be going for the 1pm show on Saturday, so if you’re buying tickets for then, I’d love to say hi! Let me know in the comments if you’ll be getting tickets to the advance screening.

You can buy tickets to these special screenings from the Imax Melbourne website.

Thanks for letting us know! Immediately bought tickets, been looking forward to this! Even somehow just convinced the four year old that he wouldn’t like the 3d version, and I’ll take him when it comes out at V Junior instead. Date night, woohoo!
Jay, let me know if you want to do a Jays Brick Blog Meetup or something. We’re going to the 7pm session on the 9th.

Here's my review of 41757 Botanical Garden, hands Here's my review of 41757 Botanical Garden, hands down one of THE best sets of 2023 and a gleaming beacon of just how far the LEGO Friends theme has matured.

When you see the LEGO Friends Botanical Garden, it quickly becomes apparent that LEGO have something special on their hands with a design that's simply beautiful.

Hit the link in bio to read my full review!

It's truly a mark of a mature theme, that LEGO could debut a tasteful design like this into LEGO Friends, but crafted in such a way that it will also have broad appeal to City builders, or even fans who want a stunning architectural masterpiece to display their minifigures or minidolls in.

With so many amazing designs and sets being produced by Billund, 41757 Botanical Garden deservedly takes it's place as one of the best LEGO sets of 2023 and I can heartily recommend this set to everyone, and I have a gut feeling that this will be one of the best-selling LEGO Friends set of the year.

LEGO have revealed a whole bunch of Marvel and DC LEGO have revealed a whole bunch of Marvel and DC Comics sets including the highly anticipated 76261 Spider-Man Final Battle featuring all 3 Spider-Man from No Way Home!

Got a chance to see a preliminary model of 76261 a few months ago, and while the minifigure lineup is impressive, the model is absolutely tiny.

Venomised Groot is super cute, and the Batwing is an absolute winner at this scale and price.

This is LEGO 40364 Icons of Play, a set celebratin This is LEGO 40364 Icons of Play, a set celebrating some of the most accomplished female football players.

It features minifigures of @samanthakerr20, @mrapinoe, @yuki_nagasato and @asisat_oshoala, and is set to be released on 6 June 2023!

I read some extremely disgusting misogynistic comments on this set, from the usual terminally-online, incel-esque dudebros who probably need to get out a little.

Women's football is on the up and up, with exponential growth in game attendance, and TV viewership, and this is really smart timing on LEGO's part, releasing this just before the FIFA Women's World Cup starts.

Women's football has massive grassroots support, and is a hugely popular sport for young girls, the very builders of tomorrow that LEGO is continually trying to inspire.

LEGO is even a sponsor of the Australian national women's team @thematildas!

It's not even a bad set, and will integrate nicely into LEGO City, with clear references to the popular Football theme from the early 2000s.

Still, it's very disappointing (but not surprising) to see large LEGO pages continue to encourage and not take a stronger stance against sexism and misogyny.

Do better with your influence and reach.
