Labyrinth Marble Maze is the next LEGO Ideas set

LEGO Ideas Labyrinth Marble Maze

JK Brickworks’ Labyrinth Marble Maze has been selected as the next LEGO Ideas set to be produced as a retail LEGO set! Congratulations!

Announced early this morning on the LEGO Ideas blog, the Labyrinth Marble Maze joins an illustrious group that includes 21301 Birds, 21109 Exo Suit, 21110 Research Institute and 21108 Ghostbusters Ecto-1 as the latest fan-created and fan-voted sets on LEGO’s crowdsourcing platform.

Here’s the announcement video. The Labyrinth Marble Maze beat out projects like the Avengers Helicarrier, Creator Natural History Museum and other gargantuan LEGO Ideas submissions that no one was expecting to be approved.

F7A Hornet Star Citizen

There is still hope for the F7A Hornet from Star Citizen as it is still under consideration by the LEGO Board, possibly due to the time it takes to sort out licensing and stuff.

What do I think about the Labyrinth Marble Maze? I’m pretty excited about it, but not as hyped like I was with previous Ideas projects. I think all the negative buzz around the set’s announcement is purely unwarranted as it’s a very interesting LEGO model that’s unlike anything that LEGO has on the market – which is what LEGO Ideas should be all about.

The photos of the Labyrinth Marble Maze don’t do it justice. Watch this video below instead to see it in action. I think the mechanical and interactive nature of this set makes it very appealing and fun – I could definitely see this set sitting on my coffee table and will be something I’ll fiddle and play with if I’m bored.

Will I buy it as soon as it becomes available? Definitely! Now that the LEGO team are hard at work getting this set produced, I do hope that there will naturally be lots of variations to the board layout included to keep things fresh. Preferably with microfigs and references to some of LEGO’s enduring themes like Classic Space, Castle or Pirates.

Unfortunately, there isn’t any news about the previously announced LEGO Ideas sets – The Big Bang Theory, Wall-E or Doctor Who, though I suspect that they’re keeping The Big Bang Theory under wraps till the new season (9) premieres sometime in September. Expect more details soon, hopefully!

What do you think of the Labyrinth Marble Maze? Let me know in the comments if you love it, hate it or just don’t get it.
