LEGO 40577 Hogwarts Grand Staircase gift with purchase (GWP) now available!

The LEGO 40577 Hogwarts Grand Staircase gift with purchase (GWP) offer has just gone live on LEGO.com, where it will be free with LEGO Harry Potter purchases over AU$209 or £130/€130 in the UK and Europe

The promotion will run from 15-31 July 2022, while stocks last.

Update: The promotion is now live for the US, and the Grand Staircase is free with orders of US$130 or more, and the 30435 Build your own Hogwarts Castle polybag is free with purchases of US$40 or more.

In addition to this set, you can also receive a 30435 Build your own Hogwarts Castle polybag with purchases of AU$109/€40/£40 or more during the same promotional period. Yay for doubling up.

Here’s a better look at the set which feature Hermione (with a skirt!) and it’s a really nice looking set, a moving staircase, and plenty of cool stickers featuring portraits that hang in the Hogwrts halls, most prominent of all being the “fat lady” that guards the entrance to the Gryffindor common room.

While this is one of the nicer LEGO Harry Potter GWPs yet, I can’t help but think that purchase threshold is unreasonably high, especially so soon after Double VIP points (ended yesterday) where many fans may already have made their LEGO purchases.

At AU$209 or £130 as you can see, unless you spring for some of the larger D2C (direct to consumer) exclusives like 71043 Hogwarts Castle or 75391 Harry Potter Hogwarts Icons, you likely won’t hit it with just one set, with only 76389 Chamber of Secrets being the only “normal” set to make the cut.

I think LEGO have got it wrong with the pricing here, and have priced this one too far out of reach for Harry Potter fans, which is disappointing as it looks like such a fun set.

For LEGO Harry Potter fans, if you have a big purchase that’s on your to-buy list, then it’s great, but I can’t see a lot of regular fans jumping on this, which is very disappointing.

What do you think of the 40577 Hogwarts Grand Staircase purchase threshold? Will you be picking it up?

its already sold out this is sad

  2. Reader says:

In Australia (lego.com.au), there’s also an Amusement Park GWP going for orders over $179. I think this GWP has been offered before?

  3. Tom K says:

The staircase threshold is purchases above $130 USD, from July 15 to July 31

Hogwarts polybag is purchases above $40 USD for the same time period

The info is now on the US version of lego.com

i don’t know if it’s just me but i wish GWPs where just sets after the deal ends (as a person who rarely shop off of Lego.com i consider GWPs an add on that doesn’t affect me. but we have two Hogwarts rooms!

    • Jay says:

Sometimes… if not enough people redeem these GWPs, they end up being sold in LEGO stores here in Australia. That happened to the Monster Book of Monsters.

  5. John says:

Lego is just doing what all the other large corporations have done since covid. They saw an uptick in sales and popularity, so they are pushing as far as they can with little regard to most people.

I’ve been a huge lego fan for many years, and have a decent income, but it’s starting to get out of hand.

    • Jay says:

Yup, that’s why I skipped out on this one. I’m being very intentional with my purchases now to “vote with my wallet”. Stuff like Forest Hideout? Great, give me more of that. But very limited and narrow GWPs like this just make it so difficult.
