LEGO 71799 Ninjago City Markets officially unveiled as the biggest Ninjago set ever!

Joining the lineup of newly revealed LEGO Ninjago Summer 2023 sets, is the biggest LEGO Ninjago set of all time – 71799 Ninjago City Markets!

This 6,163-piece set lets Ninjago fans construct an urban marketplace, with 4-floors and plenty of details like a cable car, bakery, boat, apartments, an elevator, a rooftop food court and so much more.

71799 Ninjago City Markets will be released on 1 June 2023 (VIP Early Access), along with the rest of the 2023 Summer Ninjago wave, and will be available exclusively from LEGO.com or your local LEGO store.

See below for regional pricing and product pages:

Ninjago City Markets is massive, measuring 46cm (18 in.) tall, 51cm (20 in.) wide, and 25cm (10 in.) deep.

Like any teeming urban metropolis, Ninjago City Markets comes with a whopping 20 minifigures, including Lloyd, Nya, Detective Zane, Blacksmith Kai, Urban Arin, Urban Sora, Miss Demeanor, Houndog McBrag, Chamille, Dareth, Cyrus Borg, Racer Seven, Gayle Gossip, Vinny Folson, Sushimi Chef, Baker, Boat Vendor, Street Vendor, Borg Store Employee, Tea Vendor, and a Dojo Kid.

Fans of the 14+ Ninjago City series are going to love this set, and I especially like the composition, and colours.

The cable car which traverses the middle and connects two structures is particular eye-catching, and I think provides that X-factor to the build.

Like with previous sets, there are some incredible details, and I especially LOVE that Ninjago City Gardens has working sanitation system – you can literally flush a poo down into the sewage system/river!

Longtime Ninjago fans and those that want a futuristic, Japanese-themed build will no doubt be keen on adding Ninjago City Markets to 2021’s 71741 Ninjago City Gardens, 2018’s Ninjago City Docks, and the crown jewel of the collection – 2017’s Ninjago City

Here’s a look at how Ninjago City Gardens looks attached to Ninjago City Markets.

And here’s a look at Ninjago City Markets flanked by the rest of the Summer 2023 LEGO Ninjago wave!

71799 Ninjago City Markets will be released on 1 June 2023 (VIP early access), along with the rest of the 2023 Summer Ninjago wave, and will be available exclusively from LEGO.com or your local LEGO store.

What do you think of Ninjago City Markets? Will you be adding this to your collection?

I think the D2C sets could be sold through third party stores after a six months embargo, or so.

Although unlike regular sets, they might not necessarily be that much cheaper, anyway…

  2. Jg says:

Exclusive to Lego stores … Does this mean it will never be available through third party stores ? Or is it temporary exclusive ?

  3. Håkan says:

I got that Borg Store Employe torso randomly in a Pick-A-Brick order a month or so ago. Kinda cool, although I likely coul put for instance tht purple hair to better use…

  4. Jon says:

Looking forward to this set and your review of it Jay. (I anticipate the requisite comparison photo to the AT-AT 😂

  5. Jonathan says:

I’m probably most disappointed that it joins 90 degrees or off the back of Ninjago City Markets. I understand why but it makes it very difficult to display with the first 3 sets.

  6. Charlene Green says:

It reminds me a little of the City of Lanterns from The Monkey Kid series. I love that set and it was amazing fun to build. I like the way this set looks with the City Gardens set, but alone, it’s not nearly as appealing as City of Lanterns. I might get it – but I haven’t decided for sure.

  7. WEBricks says:

This has TEN minifigures that Ninjago fans have been wanting. If the price wasn’t so high, I would get it.

    I don’t see that here.

  9. Doug says:

    I counted 20 minifigs and a Wheelie!

*its ok, I’m paraplegic (a wheelie)

Hope there is a GWP on Release Day!! When’s Houses 3 due?

I feel slightly underwhelmed but I think it was due to all the hype. I bet in an hour or two I’ll be happy with it. I bet it’ll come to life when you see it in person. I’m going to get it though – this and the new Monkie Kid Palace. Day One fingers crossed

  11. Andrew says:

    It’s nuts. Love it!

  12. Mike says:

You know what, I’m surprised to say I think the Ninjago modular magic is wearing thin for me. I have all the previous sets but this one to me is a far cry from the genuinely beautiful original city. This looks to me more like an exercise in excess. It’s huge, yes, but there’s a lot of space gobbled up between the two structures for the cable car. And it’s just not that aesthetically pleasing. Will I get it? Probably. Will I love it? Probably not. But my kids will.

    • Kevin says:

Agree with you somewhat and, being the fourth in the series, it always gets harder to come up with worthy sequels. Likewise for those of us who buy the Creator Expert modulars at the beginning of each year, it becomes a labour of love for the theme.

I fell in love with the Ninjago design aesthetic early on and the ‘City’ sets were the icing on the cake, although these days my Ninjago purchases are pared back somewhat.

I can’t quite put my finger on why I’m slighty disappointed with it but I think it’s because there are a lot of bare spaces especially at the base. I know it’s easily fixed but I think after Rivendell it looks a bit empty. It is £100 cheaper though so there’s room of expand it and it is so lovely and colourful.

I get what you mean about the modulars, I love them but buying the Jazz Club I felt like I was buying it because I should not because I wanted to.

        • Mike says:

To me it’s that this lacks the refinement of the previous sets. It has the vibe of a very competent moc, like someone’s expansion build that you might see at a Lego show. I saw a comment somewhere that summed it up nicely – it’s a filler set that doesn’t stand on its own (similar to the docks). The City and Gardens I have displayed as standalone pieces because each makes a real statement. They’re dense and and buzzing with life, and yet this one, for all its pieces, seems to lack that sense of energy and excitement. The more I look at it, and the more I consider its vast footprint, the more I wonder if I’ll actually get it.
