Check out the characters from LEGO Batman Movie Minifigures Series 2!

December 6, 2017 By Jay 31 Comments

UPDATE: I’ve completed my review of LEGO Batman Movie Minifigures Series 2! Check it out to see what I thought of each minifigure and for more photos!

Early this morning, LEGO officially announced Series 2 of the LEGO Batman Movie Minifigures, which for all intents and purposes is pretty much a glorified DC Comics Minifigure Series, with a few splashes of actual LEGO Batman Movie references.

Like the first LEGO Batman Movie Minifigures Series, Series 2 will once again feature 20 minifigures to collect and will have a release date of 1 January 2018. Like all minifigure series, they’ll likely retail for US$3.99, AU$5.99, £2.99 and €3.99.

You can find them at your local toy store, or on LEGO.com or even on Amazon. I do recommend just buying the whole set rather than feeling your way through boxes if you intend to collect all 20.

If you’ve read my review of the first Series, I wasn’t that big a fan of the Series as it felt bloated with a lot of fringe, obscure characters which were great for DC fans, but kind of missed the mark for everybody else. I say that as a big DC Comics fan, but an even bigger LEGO Minifigures fan.

Series 2 seems quite promising in the sense that they’ve toned down the obscure characters, and fleshed it out with more well-known DC staples like Black Canary, Zod and Jor-El.

Fans of obscure DC Villains aren’t left out as we get the likes of Clock King and Doctor Phosphorus, but also some solid additions such as Hugo Strange.

Until the official minifigure checklist is available, here’s a handy graphic I made which has all the character names from LEGO Batman Movie Series 2 for your reference.

Official minifigure names aren’t available yet, so I’ve made some of these up (especially the Beach Bat-family), so don’t hold me to them!

Here’s a complete list of minifigures:

  • Beach Batman
  • Beach Batgirl
  • Beach Robin
  • Beach Alfred
  • Beach Joker
  • Black Canary
  • Disco Alfred
  • Disco Harley Quinn
  • Mermaid Batman
  • Batfan Batgirl
  • Apache Chief
  • Jayna (of the Wonder Twins)
  • Zan (of the Wonder Twins)
  • General Zod
  • Jor-El
  • Black Vulcan
  • Hugo Strange
  • Killer Moth
  • Doctor Phosphorus
  • Clock King

There are some really cool Easter eggs hidden in Series 2. My favourites so far have to be the “Kneel before Zod in polls” newspaper tile, as well as Beach Joker’s obvious reference to The Killing Joke, where the Joker wears a similar tropical shirt when he visits the Gordons. The camera is also another reference to what is probably the most disturbing plot point in DC history…

Larger images of LEGO Batman Movie Minifigures below for your viewing pleasure.

So yeah, I’m a bit happier with Series 2 than I am with the first one as it has a much beefier line-up of interesting and memorable characters.

I still don’t quite like the 20-character formats as it’s incredibly expensive to collect them all and to be honest, I don’t think the LEGO Batman Movie will be all that relevant in 2018, given that the movie failed to capture everyone’s imaginations like The LEGO Movie did.

I would’ve much preferred a core Minifigure series, but hey, I guess this shows that LEGO were really banking hard on The LEGO Batman Movie to be a continued success. I’ll just pretend that this is a DC Comics minifgure series, which should soothe the pain of disappointment.

My early favourites, just by looking at the photos are Mermaid Batman, Clock King, Beach Joker, Jor-El, General Zod and both Disco Alfred and Harley Quinn.

Let me know in the comments if you’re excited about this Series, and which character you’re looking forward to the most!

we haven’t seen the new movie yet so although it confuses me that superman linked characters are in the batman series I am still rather excited to have Jor-El in our collection especially because we have superman. also excited to hopefully end up with general Zod, and totally agree on the total cost of a 20 character collection.

Ah, it’s a spoiler, but Jor-El makes a really small cameo in the movie. You should watch it!

they were the first two we got…beach joker is easy to feel the duck head on his swim ring haha I know it’s probably cheating but when they are $5 a pop ($4.75 at big w…when they finally get them) and there is particular ones you want you just have to take a few moments to feel what’s in the bag. good luck

For beach joker, try feeling for the inflatable duck. For beach robin, try feeling for the boombox – it should feel squarish, kinda like a 1×3 brick.

God damn it!! I only picked up 5 min figs when the 1st series came around, partly due to price but also as I’m not a huge fan of the orginal batman a lot of the figs didn’t resonate. This has gone out the window. Whilst I certainly won’t be getting them all, Beach joker will go great with vacation batman from series1, beach batman, batgirl and alfred look great, disco alfred, mermaid batman, general Zod, only for one of my fave lines from Superman 2 movie “Kneel before Zod”. Love it!! Killer moth and clock king will probably round of my purchases from this release so that’s 9 for me.

Yeah, and that’s a really wise decision to just pick and choose which ones you like. 20 to collect is way too prohibitive for most people as there are so many better LEGO sets you can buy for that price.

The minifigures I’ll definitely be getting are Batfan Batgirl, Beach Joker, General Zod and Black Vulcan, but I might get some of the villains and heroes, like Apache chief, clock king and the wonder twins, but I might consider black canary because her alternate face is hilarious

I actually like this series. Beach Batgirl is easily the worst, it’s just too similar to her normal outfit. I don’t hate the other beach suits, and I love jokers but Alfred, Bats and Robin aren’t very interesting. I especially like the more obscure heroes and villains especially Hugo Strange who I’ve wanted in LEGO since Arkham City. Merbat is ok but nothing too special. I still don’t understand why Jayna doesn’t come with Greek the monkey. It’s such a missed opportunity and they really insulted us with it by putting him in the photo Apache Chief holds

I agree with Beach Batgirl. The bat-surfboard at least makes up for it though. I kinda like Alfred’s one-piece bathers, it has a cool retro look to it.

Yeah, Hugo Strange has been a long time coming!

‘Batfan Batgirl’ is actually Soccer Mom Batgirl, briefly seen in one scene where Barbara chooses her outfit. Still pretty memorable though IMO.

Definitely getting FAF Alfred, Beach Batman, Zod.
Possibly: Beach Alfred, Robin, Batgirl, Mermaid Batman and Jor El

Someone suggested that Jor El’s head could be used for a custom George Lucas so now that figure has a lot more appeal!

Going to have to start saving up my $5 dollar notes again and keep my eyes out for these figures next Jan. Luckily I have a Coles next to my bus stop!

Good post! Glad to see you getting back into the swing of things!

They’re well designed but I’m really not that interested. The mermaid tail leads me to hope that other mermaid minifigs await – I love the design – but apart from that… eh.

I’m super excited for Beach Batman, Beach Joker, Mermaid Batman, Jor-El, and Black Vulcan. So far I’ve collected most of the Batman variants so I’m excited to add two more to my collection. If I had to pick one figure to be most excited for it would be Mermaid Batman!!

Happy International @LEGO Day! The 28th of Januar Happy International @LEGO Day!

The 28th of January commemorates the date where the first patent for the iconic LEGO brick was filed with the Danish Patent and Trademark Office in Denmark by then-owner Godtfred Kirk Christiansen.

Here's a photo of the patent which is on display in the history section of the @legohouse, which I got to see last year when I visited Billund!
