LEGO CON 2022 Recap: all the new sets announced!

LEGO CON 2022 was an extremely pleasant surprise, with an absolute truckload of new LEGO sets announced, and the best part of all, the reveals were completely organic, with not that many leaks or spoilers, which meant that most of us fans got to see and experience the reveals LIVE, and with high-resolution images following after.

In case you missed LEGO CON 2022, you can re-watch the entire stream on Youtube.

To help summarise all the exciting reveals, here’s a recap of all the sets revealed, when they’ll be releasing and some of the highlights from the event.

I was live-tweeting and posting updates till 430am last night, so it was pretty frantic as there was SO much that was announced, but I had a blast, and thoroughly enjoyed this year’s LEGO CON.

Personally, my highlights were the reveal of 10305 Lion Knight’s Castle, 10497 Galaxy Explorer and LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 23, with the 76218 Sanctum Santorum closing out my most anticipated sets.

LEGO CON 2022 Highlights

The hosts – Firstly, I think the hosting panel did a fantastic job this year, despite a pretty jam-packed and frenetic schedule with back-to-back reveals, interviews and panels, the hosts, Vick Hope, Melvin ODoom, and Joel McHale, who voiced X-PO from LEGO Dimensions had great chemistry, and kept the energy and enthusiasm levels up.

It felt much more organic, and they thoroughly seemed to enjoy immersing themselves in the LEGO World.

Also, the initial jokes about Joel constantly denying LEGO Dimensions was making a return, LEGO leaks, and poking fun at LEGO Investors who kept sets Mint In Sealed Box (MISB) were pretty meta and funny.

Judging by the views – less than 24 hours in, and it’s already surpassed LEGO CON’s 2021 view count significantly! That’s testament to how much of a success 2022 has been.

Lots and Lots of Reveals – I was afraid that like last year, all the cool reveals were going to be leaked, but thanks to LEGO proactively issuing takedown notices and copyright strikes to the LEGO Avatar images that were obtained dubiously, it tampered the leaking that was going down as the big leaker accounts suddenly were reminded that they could lose their social media accounts if they got on the wrong foot.

LEGO Designer Segments – these were especially great, as it’s always a treat to hear from the designers that work on the LEGO sets that we love so much. You really get the energy, and passion for what they do, which I think translated incredibly well across the screen, whether it was live or through pre-recorded segments.

I really enjoyed the LEGO Star Wars segment, where we got an inside look at the top-secret LEGO Innovation House, the home base of the LEGO Design Teams, and I liked seeing all the blurred out bits.

It’s top secret because they’re often working on future sets, and projects, months and sometimes years ahead of time.

The segment can be viewed from the 2:09 timestamp onwards.

LEGO UCS Razor Crest Teaser

Speaking of LEGO Star Wars, during the panel, LEGO Star Wars Design Manager, Michael Lee Stockwell and Graphic Designer Madison O’Neil were both spotted wearing matching t-shirts with the silhouette of The Mandalorian’s Razor Crest.

A cheeky Easter Egg and nod towards the next LEGO Star Wars UCS set? Yes, please.

Speaking of more cheeky teasers, Harry Potter star, Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) shared the limelight with LEGO Design Master as they took a tour of the Warner Bros Studios in London, and chatted all things LEGO Harry Potter.

In the background, the Hogwarts Express gleaming – another cheeky Easter Egg that alludes to the next big D2C (direct to consumer) Harry Potter set? Time will tell!

I like the Avatar set. It has some color, which so many sets have been lacking. My kid enjoys the 3 in one sets and requests more animal sets for 10+ ages.

  2. Cyrus says:

I want Lego to make a Lego Disney Epic Mickey Set Series with minifigures with sets Blindbags poly bags and micro sets and finally get an Oswald The Lucky Rabbit for 1st time in 93 years I never had any toys of him only Mickey steamboat willie Mickey from series 2 and my idea has 4 new sculpts like a new mold for the Paintbrush Green and Blue and tan and dark brown Mickey with him in black arms and Torso and white Hands one of them is where Mickey holds the PaintBrush it could be 18+ or a 4+ or Junior set or 5+ or 6-99 for ages these are ideas that I would loved that could have been made

  3. Patrick Wentzell says:

    I enjoy Lego video games
the movies and bricks it’s fun to build with them one of my favorite hobbies when I’m not broke anymore I’m going to buy many bricks then see what I can make .

  4. Jean-Michel Laniel says:

Yes me to its sad they could have made the Nina project or something like that

  5. Judah says:

Kinda upset to see no stranger things sets
    :/

    • Averil says:

Yeah Victor’s house would be cool, maybe they could do the upside down version (with Vecna and his tentacles in the attic) like they did with the Byers house set

  6. Ann says:

Disappointed there isn’t any new earthmoving or trucks 🙁
    Maybe next time 🙂

  7. Romolo says:

The V8 Interceptor from Mad Max 2???

  8. Reader says:

Not a fan of using DMCA / copyright to attack leaks. It’s the sledgehammer approach. Even if legally justified, if Lego had a good relationship, a “please take down post and don’t repost” should be sufficient. It’s also bad from a PR perspective if people get strikes like this. They may be Lego’s biggest fans, biggest spenders and have large number of followers. Threatening fans is not a good idea.
Don’t get me wrong – it’s Lego’s thing and they can do what they like.

I like the Avatar set but don’t like the faces and facial expressions much. They’re kind of ugly. They’d look better as more normal Lego face, like what is pictured on the side of the box.

    • Rob S says:

The problem is everything is about getting views so a polite “please take that down” would be kargeky ineffective in this look at me era we’re in.

  9. Candace says:

BTW-The floral art kit for U.S. is $79.99 NOT $799.99!

  10. Joey says:

Sounds like you got a shout out. I’m assuming the message they shared from Jay in Australia was you. 😁

  11. Drew says:

I think your review was spot. The event was exciting and fun, and the hosts were perfect. How about Vick Hope’s build?? 👍🏻👍🏻

  12. Marina says:

    31207 Floral Art [US] – US$799.99

    Not sure it’s quite worth $800! 🤣

I see the new Mario character packs are in blind boxes. Any idea if the new CMF series will be the same? This is the first one where I actually want them all, so won’t be too pleased if I can’t feel them all to avoid duplicates!

  13. With Avatar 2 still not out and Dr. Strange it’s clear they’re not keeping the franchises as separate from “core lego” or tying to film release dates, so where do you think the mini Haunted Mansion we heard about in January is?

  14. Sharon says:

I spotted the Razor Crest silhouette, but didn’t link anything to it. Thanks for that suggestion. I have the recent one and I love it, also got his new N1 Starfighter, so not sure I’d splash out again. On the topic of UCS, I’m building Luke’s Landspeeder and it’s really got me excited. Nostalgia all the way, taking me back to Tatooine. My favourite scenes are in the desert.

    • Sharon says:

Great job blogging Jay BTW, that was frantic! And to answer your question, the new MF series looks very cure, I’ll get those of course. I never had any Classic sets as a child (except System Bricks and Fabuland) so I don’t have the same affiliation for the castle or space theme, but the castle does look pretty good. As for space I’m more into the actual rockets and vehicles, ISS, Saturn V etc. I have these yet to build.
