LEGO Indiana Jones and Up House sells out at launch, underscoring demand for mid-range sets
In news that will be highly encouraging for The LEGO Group, the 1 April 2023 launches have gone spectacularly, with the entire LEGO Indiana Jones theme and 43217 Up House selling out on Day One.
- 77012 Fighter Plane Chase – US$34.99 / AU$49.99 / £29.99 / €34.99 / CAD$44.99
- 77013 Escape from the Lost Tomb – US$39.99/ AU$59.99 / £34.99 / €39.99 / CAD$49.99
- 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol – US$149.99 / AU$239.99 / £129.99 / €149.99 / CAD$199.99
All 3 Indiana Jones sets are currently sold out in North America. In the UK, Europe and Australia, the only set still in stock is 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol with the smaller two sets 77012 Fighter Plane Chase and 77013 Escape from the Lost Tomb temporarily out of stock and on backorder till 12 April 2023.
43217 Up House is temporarily sold out on LEGO.com worldwide, showcasing just how highly anticipated this set has been for Disney fans.
If you’re in the United States, 43217 Up House, 77012 Fighter Plane Chase and 77013 Escape from the Lost Tomb and 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol is available from Amazon.com.
In Australia, the Up House and 77012 Fighter Plane Chase is also available on Amazon Australia, although something funny is going on with the price of 77013 Escape from the Lost Tomb, which seems to have the Temple of the Golden Idol’s price applied. You can also find these sets at most toy stores, although given the popularity, I expect these to be relatively hard to find!
The presence of the 40590 Houses of the World 2, 40587 Easter Basket, 40606 VIP Spring Fun Add-On Pack definitely helped get fans across the line BUT, I also think that this underscores the demand for moderately-priced mid-range sets.
Both Indiana Jones sets come in under US$50, and the Up House was under US$100, whereas the big April release, 10317 Land Rover Classic Defender 90 is still available worldwide, despite being a LEGO.com exclusive at launch.
With cost of living pressures and LEGO fans who are vocal about wanting more accessible releases, this is a strong indication that fans want more mid-range sets.
Looking at the types of sets that are currently temporarily out of stock in the United States and Australia is all you need to know about the types of sets fans are clamouring for at this very point in time.
What do you think of the success of Indiana Jones and the Up House? Does this point towards a trend of fans wanting more accessible sets instead of mega-sized ones?
