80049 Dragon of the East Palace (2,364 pieces)

Out of all the sets, I’m most impressed by 80049 Dragon of the East Palace, which is very much on the pricier side of things, but showcases the Dragon of the East’s underwater palace, a really important location in Journey to the West.
In the historic epic, Sun Wukong, aka Monkey King travels underwater to the Dragon of the East Palace in search of a magical weapon that matches his strength and skill. Without much luck after trying all manner of weapons, the Dragon Queen suggests that they give Sun Wukong a useless iron pillar which has the words “The Compliant Golden-Hooped Rod” inscribed to it.
That explains the giant red staff in the ocean, featured in the set. I also really like the new underwater minifigures such as the Lobsters and Crabs! I need to army build the Lobsters if possible!
80048 The Mighty Azure Lion (789 pieces)

80047 Mei’s Guardian Dragon (605 pieces)

80046 Monkie Kid’s Cloud Airship (540 pieces)

Does the box decoration imply the golden weapons are collectable and/or unique to these sets ? Similar to the collectable golden HP figs.
Nice to see some unique weapon designs for Pigsy and Sandy … time for a printed red rod for the monkey kid/king staff ?
The Palace is beautiful – looks a bit like a more fleshed out Temple of the Endless Sea which is no bad thing.
The minifigures are great too. As for the other sets they are all good but the figure selection is a bit disappointing as we’ve seen them all before.
