List of future LEGO Ideas coming in 2023 and beyond [December update]

The LEGO Ideas pipeline is rapidly filling up with yesterday’s record-breaking 4 LEGO Ideas sets being approved – the biggest ever round yet.

The 4 projects means that there are currently 11 different LEGO Ideas submissions in various stages of development, and we now have a clearer preview of what we can expect from the LEGO Ideas theme in 2022 and beyond.

In less than a week, the final LEGO Ideas set of 2022, 21337 Table Football will be released, capping what has been a remarkable year for LEGO Ideas. Check out my LEGO Table Football review to see what you can expect.

Looking ahead, here are the next LEGO Ideas sets that are set to be released in 2023 and beyond. I’ve compiled a complete list of what LEGO Ideas submission have been approved – click on these links to get to a specific section!

A-Frame Cabin

Announced in late February, the A-Frame Cabin by Norton74 is a splendid nature-based cabin, with a unique A-frame shape, and some gorgeous deciduous trees in autumn colours.

It’s very whimsical and rustic, and I think would look fantastic alongside the LEGO Tree House, and introduce some really fascinating and unique techniques.

This one’s a tough one for me, as I definitely expect it in the first half of 2023, but it could be anywhere from April to May. Or it could switch positions with BTS and be the first one out the gates for 2023, but I don’t expect a large expensive set to be the first LEGO Ideas set of 2023. We’ll have to wait and see!

Approved: February 2022
Best guess release date: April 2023

BTS Dynamite

The biggest surprise coming out of the Second 2021 Review Results was the confirmation of BTS “Dynamite” by JBBrickFanatic getting the greenlight.

BTS is an absolute KPOP powerhouse, and has an incredibly massive fanbase (read this post for my thoughts on the set and why I think it’ll do well).

I initially thought that the BTS set would be released with a new album, but since then, it’s been announced that due to South Korea’s mandatory military service requirements, the BTS band members will begin serving their required 2 years, and will only properly reunite in 2025.

That said, February 2023 makes sense for me as it’s close to the Grammys, so that’s where my prediction is.

Approved: February 2022
Best guess release date: March 2023

Tribute to Galileo Galilei (GWP)

Tribute to Galileo Galilei is set to be the next LEGO Ideas gift with purchase (GWP), and was voted in on June 2022 as part of the Ready, Set, Go Stem fan vote.

LEGO usually likes to introduce the LEGO Ideas GWP around May and June, and it makes sense to launch a highly anticipated GWP in May, before the June release window to encourage people to spend.

Approved: 14 June 2022
Best guess release date: May 2023

Hocus Pocus – The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage

Hocus Pocus – The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage by fan designer TheAmbrinator surprised (and delighted) many when it was approved in July 2022, and this has all the makings of a sleeper hit if done right.

The fan design has plenty of minifigures, and details in the Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage, which should make for a great build, as long as they keep the price fairly accessible, but I expect this to be on the same level (if not slightly smaller) than Home Alone.

With a resurgence of interest in Hocus Pocus thanks to the Disney+ sequel, LEGO unfortunately missed a timing window to sync up with the premiere of Hocus Pocus 2, but I can absolutely see them earmarking this for an October 2023 launch, just in time for Halloween.

Approved: 12 July 2022
Best guess release date: October 2023

Viking Village

The Viking Village by fan designer BrickHammer received a second lease of life, having won the LEGO Ideas x Target fan vote in August 2022, and this is going to be a cracker of a set, especially for fans who have been clamouring for more LEGO Vikings, especially after 31132 Viking Ship and the Midgard Serpent.

The Viking Village should hopefully arrive in the second half of 2023, and I’m expecting this to be a hugely impressive set, but not something too huge and over the top.

Best guess release date: July 2023

LEGO Insects

Announced alongside 3 other LEGO Ideas submissions, LEGO Insects by hachiroku24 sees the return of brick-built creatures, something not seen in the LEGO Ideas line since 2015’s Birds and a really fascinating and clever collection of LEGO bugs.

These designs are just gorgeous, and I’m waiting to see what LEGO does to jazz and tighten the designs up.

Approved: 25 October 2022
Best guess release date: August 2023

The Orient Express, a legendary train

Also part of the massive batch of 4 LEGO Ideas set approved in one review result window, we have The Orient Express, a legendary train by LEt.sGO, the first ever LEGO Train to be part of the LEGO Ideas theme.

This is actually a licensed product, and the timing was a huge part of this set being greenlit as the Orient Express celebrates its 140th anniversary in 2023.

I think LEGO are going to go all out with this and deliver a proper (and expensive) train, and I think they’re eager to make things right after the Hogwarts Express was panned by LEGO Train enthusiasts for its lack of compatibility with tracks.

Approved: 25 October 2022
Best guess release date: November 2023

Tales of the Space Age

Tales of the Space Age by john_carter was also part of the unprecedented 4-set review results batch is the epitome of simplicity and one of the most gorgeous fan designs I’ve ever seen.

I’m so glad it made the cut and because of just how good the fan design is, I think LEGO can speed and ramp up production of this, and I think we might see it in June 2023, or maybe even earlier.

I’m also glad that we’re getting more inexpensive LEGO Ideas sets, and I hope this one does really well.

Approved: 25 October 2022
Best guess release date: June 2023

Polaroid OneStep SX-70

And last but not least, we have Polaroid Onestep SX-70 by Minibrick Productions, which was also part of the most recent review results round, where 4 sets got approved.

The Polaroid brand has enjoyed a resurgence in the last few years, as analogue and all things “retro” have come into vogue, and this has widespread and mainstream appeal beyond just LEGO or photography enthusiasts.

This feels like it’s tailor-made to be the Q4 holiday season set, and I hope it’ll be at a really accessible price, and deliver a fun building, feature-packed experience.

Approved: 25 October 2022
Best guess release date: October 2023

TBD LEGO Ideas x Target – What does Family mean to you?

Update: Your Family Tree by Bulldoozer has been selected as the next LEGO Ideas set!

Best guess release date: late 2023/early 2024

LEGO Ideas x Dungeons and Dragons

A few weeks ago, LEGO Ideas announced that they were partnering with Hasbro’s Dungeons & Dragons to celebrate 50 Years of D&D, an awesome surprise for tabletop roleplaying game fans, and those of us who are yearning for more fantasy-type sets.

This is still in the very early stages, and fans and designers can submit their Ideas to the LEGO D&D Challenge via LEGO ideas before 14 November 2022.

Dungeons and Dragons celebrates their 50th Anniversary in 2024, so it’ll be a bit of a wait till then to see what LEGO does with the D&D license!

Best guess release date: 2024

Looking ahead

Here’s a look at the next batch of LEGO Ideas hopefuls from the Second 2022 LEGO Ideas Review. A whopping 51 submissions crossed the 10,000 vote mark, and we’ll find out which ones will be successful in early 2023.

Personally, I’m hoping for THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMASLEGO MUSHROOM HOUSE, TRADITIONAL JAPANESE VILLAGE ARMADA PORT and of course BLUEY! to make the cut.

2023 is shaping up to be a really exciting year for LEGO Ideas with such a diverse lineup. For now, it seems relatively light on licensed IP (intellectual property) sets that we’d usually expect, although sets like the Polaroid, Orient Express and BTS are technically IP-based.

I’m just glad we’re seeing a shift back to more manageable LEGO Ideas set sized and pricing, to ensure that the theme remains accessible to most.
