More LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga DLC character packs announced, plus a new Galactic Edition

Announced at D23 earlier today, TT Games, the developers behind the hit LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga game have revealed that more DLC (downloadable content) is on the way, with 6 new character packs are on the way.

These 6 new character packs will include playable characters from The Clone Wars, The Book of Boba Fett, Rebels, Summer Vacation, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor, adding to the existing 7 available character packs.

I can imagine fans of The Clone Wars to be very excited for The Clone Wars character pack, which depicts Captain Rex on it. Hopefully this hints at an updated Captain Rex minifigure being included in a set in the not too distant future!

The price for each DLC character pack is US$2.99 a la carte, or you have the option of purchasing Character Collection 1 & 2 in a bundle for US$24.99 or US$14.99 per individual bundle.

If you’d like a physical copy, TT Games have also announced a new ‘Galactic Edition’ version of the game, which will include all 13 character packs, and the base game, and probably some more bonus content.

The release date for The Skywalker Saga Galactic Edition will be 1 November 2022 (just in time for the holiday season), but no price has been revealed.

Like The Skywalker Saga, it will be available for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC.

Tough luck to people that previously stumped for the previous ‘Deluxe Edition’ which included the first 7 character packs, but I guess if you want to expand your roster of playable characters, you could always just opt for the DLC instead of the Galactic Edition.

No news or anything yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if LEGO chose to include an exclusive minifigure in the Galactic Edition, like what they did with Blue Milk Luke Skywalker to drive sales of the physical copy.

I’m a little disappointed that there is no additional content coming for the game. Character packs are fun, but more content would have been better. As for not including it in the deluxe edition, that seems fine to me. They promised six character packs and that’s what I got. Also, I got the deluxe edition mostly for the blue milk Luke Skywalker minifigure so I’m still fine with that.

Maybe, I’ll pick up the Galactic edition on PC now, if there is no bonus with the physical copy.

Bit annoyed that they are making the galactic edition, I think all the dlc’s should be part of the deluxe edition

Actually, I’m a little (just a little) miffed about this. Another case of how things have changed, not just for TLG, but also TT. At one point—a least around the time of The LEGO Avengers and LEGO Batman 3 games—TT just did a “season pass” that would include any and all expansions that were planned to come out. Something around ≈$20-30 USD that pretty much got you covered. And it wasn’t just character packs, but supplement game “chapters”. I now understand why we didn’t see that for The Skywalker Saga…they most likely knew (since the game kept getting pushed back) they were potentially going to be adding more character packs later, and they wanted to be able to ask for more money. It also feels like it may be why they purposely left out the “customized character” feature that had been present in just about every previous LEGO game from TT.

I’m actually hoping they don’t include a new exclusive minifigure. It would feel like a slight to those of us who supported the game early. They did this with LEGO Dimensions: plenty of us got the we game/system early to help support it , and then around Christmas they released versions of the system packs that had exclusive Green Arrow and Supergirl minifigures w/ character fobs, basically making those that bought early either have buyers remorse or scramble to shell out more money (and energy) to get ahold of them.

More instances where it feels like “the world’s most profitable and favorite toy brand” is nickel and dimeing it’s fan base. They definitely know how to take advantage of the completionist mentality.

I will have to seriously consider whether I want to drop more money on a game that didn’t feel as engrossing as the TT LEGO games from yore. :-/

Sold on the galactic version! Woohoo! Been holding out on getting this. Those character packs are too good value for LEGO! Lol!
