New April 2023 LEGO GWPs revealed includes 40590 Houses of the World 2 and more

LEGO.com has officially unveiled a slew of new LEGO gift with purchases (GWP) that are presumably coming in April 2023.

Update: 40590 Houses of the World 2, will be available from LEGO.com as a free gift with a likely spend of US$250 / AU$400 / £220 / €250 or more from 1 – 9 April 2023.

40588 Flowerpot will be available from 14 to 24 April when you spend US$150 / €150 / £130 on LEGO.com

There are 3 new GWPs to look forward to, and just as predicted, with the start of a 2nd quarter, we get 40590 Houses of the World 2, based on North African architecture, as well as a really great-looking 40588 Flowerpot which will slot in nicely into the Botanical Collection.

And rounding out the trio is 40589 Pirate Ship Playground, which is a cute little homage to LEGO Pirates, and hopefully a sign that LEGO will cast their nostalgic eye on LEGO Pirates next.

Unfortunately, we do not have any release dates, or GWP purchase thresholds at this stage, so we’ll have to wait for LEGO to officially announce them, but I expect a high threshold for Houses of the World 2 as the first one was one of the priciest GWPs with a US$250 / AU$400 / £220 / €250 threshold.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I feel that Flowerpot will be nice and affordable and timed for Mother’s Day, and 40589 Pirate Ship Playground will be a VIP Centre reward, but we’ll need to wait for official confirmation.

40590 Houses of the World 2

Welcome home! Here’s the second addition to the LEGO® Houses of the World collection – a beautiful North African house (40590). Build the architectural details and admire the traditional, colorful, North African interior decor. The modular design makes it easy to combine this house with others from the collection (40583, 40594 and 40599) – each available separately.

  • Celebrate world architecture – Build the second home (40590) in a collection of LEGO® houses from around the globe with this North African-themed building kit

40588 Flowerpot

Enjoy a mindful building project with a display piece to cherish as you build all the details of this LEGO® Flowerpot (40588). The elegant flowerpot holds LEGO interpretations of springtime favourites such as cherry blossom, billy buttons and other blooms. This LEGO flower building set makes a great gift for plant-lovers or anyone aged 12 and over with a passion for home decor.

On a per-piece count, it feels like the Flowerpot will have a threshold about as high as Houses of the World. Guess we’ll find out sooner or later what its cost is and how to obtain it.

They could’ve done the flower pot for Women’s day – a bit of wasted opportunity that they somehow managed to ignore the really global one. Mother’s day is celebrated mainly in Anglosaxon world though making its way in other countries too nowadays. Lovely little set I must say.

Not so hyped about the pricing for Houses of the World, especially if they are such tiny sets. I’d love to get them, I like them, however not going for random purchases just to get them.

End of the day, I still wish one could just buy these normally.

Mother’s Day have many different dates, globally. As for International Women’s Day, unless the GWP would be interpreted symbolically, as “Giving all women a chance to blossom” or something to that extent, the connotations of women together with domestic decoration might be considered stereotypical…

Anyway, I find the flowerpot here the most interesting build, but since I have already maxed out on getting the Blacktron Cruiser as a ‘decent’ deal, I won’t go out of my way to get a hold of it.

Never got the first house. Would not go after anything like it with that price threshold, and especially considering it isn’t even minifig scale!

  4. Teresa says:

Looking forward to the pirate playground and the flowerpot. Sadly the Houses of the World is just too high a price point (if its the same or similar to the first one) , considering that they are a bit basic and there are four of them.
