New LEGO Movie 2 sets now available online!

December 26, 2018 By Jay Ong 10 Comments

Happy Boxing Day! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. If you were lucky enough to get some Christmas money, OR are in a mood to splash some cash to buy some LEGO, this post might be of interest to you.

LEGO.com has just been updated this morning and the new LEGO Movie 2 sets are now available to be ordered, which should make a pretty nice New Years surprise, assuming they arrive before then!

Check out the links below for all the sets available. If you’re planning on ordering anything, please consider clicking on the links below to purchase as it helps support the site 🙂

LEGO Movie 2 Sets

The LEGO Movie 2 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated themes of 2019, with a whopping 19 sets available in the first wave. The star of the theme is undoubtedly 70841 Benny’s Space Squad AKA LEGO finally realising that they can print money by re-issuing Classic Space minifigures.

I’ve got a ton of LEGO Movie 2 reviews planned, so watch this space (get it?) soon.

LEGO Technic 2019

Along with The LEGO Movie 2, new Technic sets are also now available. I’m not a huge Technic fan, but the 42096 Porsche 911 RSR is very, very tempting and would be a brilliant companion if you own the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

Strangely, the new Porsche 911 is only available in Australia and the United Kingdom on Boxing Day. Americans will have to wait till 1 January to order it.

The new LEGO Technic 42096 Porsche 911 RSR retails for US$149.99, AU$249.99 and £139.99

LEGO City and Friends 2019

Apart from those, we also have new LEGO City and LEGO Friends sets loaded online. Unless you absolutely NEED the new sets now, you can always count on retailers to discount them further down the line, so I’d wait if I were you.

So that’s it for the new 219 sets loaded up on LEGO.com! There’ll be more sets added on the website on 1 January 2019 such as new Ninjago, DC Super Heroes, Captain Marvel, Star Wars and of course the new Modular Corner Garage which everyone is waiting for.

Did you pick any of the new sets up today? Let me know in the comments if you did!

I’d love to buy benny’s space squad, however, it hasn’t been available on the Lego Australia site since the day of release!!! Why hasn’t anyone mentioned this and why is the Australian warehouse so lacking in stock?

I guess their allocations are quite small, and they’ve probably underestimated demand – it happens often and it’ll take time for them to get their forecast models right. They’ll show up in stores around the country in March, so don’t worry too much about missing out – there’ll be plenty to go around then!

I still have all my classic space sets. I even assembled one a few months ago and was amazed that for a set that is 35 years old, I had only lost 2 pieces, however the majority of the space helmets were broken and some of the logos had rubbed off the minifig uniforms so for that reason alone I’ll be picking up the Benny set just to fill the scene out.

Whoa nice! I’m definitely busting out my 928 Galaxy Explorer for some photos with Benny’s Space Squad!

I think the rubbed off logos are quite normal for old classic space figs – which is why LEGO fans are so excited by the prospect of FRESH new classic space torsos.

So I picked up two boxes of Benny’s Space Squad, mainly for the extra figs 🙂

The helmets are much improved over the older ones, with thicker chin straps that should hopefully last longer than their predecessors.

The Buggy is a nice update to set 886 (Space buggy) https://brickset.com/sets/886-1/Space-Buggy using two-stud/blank plate for the seat (which I don’t think was available at the time). It’s nice to see the return of the torch/gun, albeit without the ridges around the piece.

I don’t think we’ll see it, but I’d love to see the return of the red spaceman and a blue one without Benny’s broken chinstrap.

The set’s a little pricey for what you get in terms of pieces, but as a classic space fan, it’s definitely worth the money in play value 🙂

Nice! I managed to squeeze in two sets as well – in hindsight I should’ve gotten more but decided to wait till it arrives at retail.

The Buggy seems like a nod to the one in 928 Galaxy Explorer, I posted a comparison in my latest review!

I think we’ll definitely see more Classic Spaceman colours – they went out of their way to reproduce the classic helmet piece, so I expect more 🙂

The new Lego Movie 2 sets looks interesting so I checked prices for previous Lego Movie sets and found that most of them did not go up in value. There were a few sets that did however, and they were related to Mechs (70807, 70814) or police (70819) themes. Also, double decker couch (70818) did well, more than doubling its value. For me, I will try to avoid buying any Lego movie 2 sets as an investment because I can spend same money on other sets. But if you are buying to build and play, then definitely recommend them.

Oooh, interesting. I wouldn’t pick the LEGO movie sets to increase in value except for a few specific sets. What about the Sea Cow?

Investing in Benny’s Space Squad is a no brainer, especially if you can get a really good price.

Did you know that Fiona, the @lego Friends florist Did you know that Fiona, the @lego Friends florist is one of the first minidolls depicted with Down Syndrome?

Fiona works at the flower stall on Unity Street from 41732 Friends Downtown Flower and Design Stores

She is described as being 'good at crafts and decorating, and knows all the flower species by name.'

It's World Down Syndrome Day today and I think it's remarkable and very important for LEGO to enhance the perspectives of children on neurodiversity, physical disabilities, ethnicity and mental health, as they've done with the LEGO Friends reboot.

Here's my review of one of the most anticipate @LE Here's my review of one of the most anticipate @LEGO Disney sets - 43217 'Up' House ahead of its release on 1 April 2023!

This set is a dream come true for many Pixar fans, and we finally get a cute, compact and great looking Up House.

It has plenty of references to the movie, and Carl's everlasting love of Ellie, his late-wife which will absolutely delight fans.

Despite a strong lineup of minifigures (including an awesome Dug mould), the set's incredibly expensive pricetag (US$59.99/AU$89.99) doesn't feel like good value, especially with Kevin nowhere to be found.

Here's a look at 40587 Easter Basket, an incredibl Here's a look at 40587 Easter Basket, an incredibly affordable and attainable GWP that's available from 16 March!

It will be a GWP when you spend US$70 / €70 / £65 from 16 March - 9 April.

Lots of things to like here, as the design is cute, and the build is surprisingly technical, and it blends both Botanical and Animal construction.

Also like that the redemption period stretches into April, so if you have the Indiana Jones, Disney 100, or Guardians of the Galaxy sets on your radar, it should be an easy one to qualify for!

Such a breath of fresh air to get such a substantial GWP without having to spend hundreds of dollars. More like this please, LEGO!
