Reminder: Second chance at the Bricklink Designer Program opens soon!

In case you forgot, the second chance at the Bricklink Designer Program opens once again on 3 August 2021 in the following time zones:

United States: 12:00pm PST
Europe: 9:00pm CET
Australia: 5:00am AEST (4th August)

You’ll be able to access the Bricklink Designer Program via the Bricklink website and attempt to order either the Kakapo, Pursuit of Flight, Great Fishing Boat or the Sherrif’s Safe.

Following the disastrous first round where less than ideal regulations meant that some enterprising fans made off with multiple copies of Bricklink Designer Program, and following heavy lobbying by LEGO fans through the LEGO Ambassador Network, LEGO and Bricklink eventually relented, and opened up a second chance for those of you who missed out.

This time, an extra 5,000 copies of the Kakapo, Pursuit of Flight, Great Fishing Boat or the Sherrif’s Safe can be pre-ordered, but unfortunately, the Castle in the Forest will not be part of this, as they oversold in the first round.

Here’s a refresher of what’s going to be different for this round:

There will be purchase limits in place, where you can only pre-order one of each set.

This second batch will be shipped later on in June 2022. Original run of 5,000 sets will still be shipped in January 2022.

There will be regional caps in place once again, so if you are unlucky enough to be in Singapore, or countries in Asia without an official LEGO.com Online Store, you’re out of luck once again.

Out of the four sets, judging based off the first round, I expect the Great Fishing Boat to go the quickest, followed by the Kakapo!

Got my castle and kakapo. Castle has a hole in the box and the kakapo is squashed at the end… LEGO can’t replace boxes… very disappointed.

Personally, I thought the Great Fishing Boat was the best model in round 1, but I must have missed it when I was glossing over the list of available sets. So the fact that everyone was so salty from last time, coupled with the fact there were regional allotments and I had to get up at 5am Australian Time worked out pretty great for me!

It was quite fun hitting F5 and compare how the different sets ticked up and up. The boat was pretty much all sold out by about 6am, so I think people have plenty of time to get one if they wanted one. As long as they didn’t forget!

As I provided comments from the post last month about the original Brinklink order and my overall negative reaction, I thought it only fair that I provide follow up.
Because the first attempt on the Brinklink Designer Program left “such a bad taste”, I initially was not going to attempt a re-order. But, after receiving an email from Jays Brick Blog and reminder, I decided what the heck. I got online about 12 mins prior to the order time frame (I’m on the East Coast of the US), exactly at 3pm EST I was able to log in and purchase (order) the Great Fishing Boat. There were no problems, no delays, no pauses. I commend LEGO for attempting to rectify the situation as best as possible and I look forward to getting the set in 2022!

The LEGO website is adding shipping charges even though it’s supposed to be free shipping. I bailed, because now I don’t trust that they also won’t charge me immediately instead of when the item ships.

  5. Ben says:

This programme is a total fail, and the artificial scarcity (not selling more so they feel special) is a great way for Lego to destroy good will with AFOLs.
