Summer vibes abound with LEGO’s Volkswagen T2 Camper Van (10279)

July 13, 2021 By Jay Ong 5 Comments

LEGO has just revealed the latest Creator Expert/LEGO for Adults to join its portfolio of cars, the LEGO 10279 Volkswagen T2 Camper Van to fulfill all your summer road trip adventure dreams!

The 2,207-piece LEGO T2 Camper Van succeeds the much-loved LEGO Creator Expert Volkswagen T1 Camper Van (which retired in 2020, after almost 10 years in service!) and comes with a brand new coat of paint – Medium azure!

It will be priced at US$179.99 / AU$ 269.99 / £149.99 and has a release date of 1 August 2021, and will be available from LEGO.com and your local LEGO store.

See below for regional pricing and links:

  • LEGO 10279 Volkswagen T2 Camper Van [US] – US$179.99
  • LEGO 10279 Volkswagen T2 Camper Van [AUS] – AU$269.99
  • LEGO 10279 Volkswagen T2 Camper Van [UK] – £149.99
  • LEGO 10279 Volkswagen T2 Camper Van [EU] – €159.99
  • LEGO 10279 Volkswagen T2 Camper Van [CAN] – CA$249.99

If you’re planning to buy the LEGO Volkswagen T2 Camper Van, please consider using these affiliate links above as they help support the website! It’s a tiny thing you can do that goes a long way in helping. Thank you!

The new set is larger than before and distinguished by a new paint colour, a sliding door, as well as the trademark T2 wraparound Baywindow front windscreen and a new yet instantly recognisable ‘face.’

The LEGO Volkswagen T2’s dimensions are 15cm (6″) high, 14cm (5.5″) wide, 35cm (13.5″) long, which makes it much larger than the T1 which measured 5” high and 11” long.

Under the hood, the set also features working steering. The LEGO Volkswagen T2 Camper Van’s detailed camping interior is also fully equipped for the open road, with opening cabinets, fridge, sink and a gas stove with a teapot.

Days at the beach are suitably catered for, as the set comes with a set of folding chairs and of course a surfboard, while a folding rear bench seat provides a comfortable place to stay under starry skies.

Volkswagen Campers are of course synonymous with customisation, and the LEGO Volkswagen T2 Camper Van set is fully prepared for personalisation, with a sticker set including retro decals and a choice of German or US number plates.

The set’s designer is Sven Franic and had this to say about the model:

“The Volkswagen Camper is a rare breed of vehicle that commands affection like few others, and we know the LEGO version will bring a lot of fun to people who’ve been lucky enough to have or go camping in one, or always wanted one.

“Though the Volkswagen Camper is no stranger to our LEGO cars collection, this latest iteration brings even more delights for LEGO builders. The meticulously kitted out interior is sure to charm seasoned campers and adventurers alike, while the eye-catching exterior with pop-up roof is a feat of engineering just like the original.”

And here’s a comparison of the LEGO T2 Camper Van next to the real version. Not sure why they edited or used a weird filter, but it really washes out the colour, and looks nothing like medium azure!

I think this is a sensational new addition to the LEGO Creator Expert cars collection, and would no doubt look great next to the original T1 Camper Van, as well as the 10252 Volkswagen Beetle.

The Volkswagen T1 Camper Van was one of my first Creator Expert sets, and I have the original version, which at the time did not have numbered bags, something that no one should experience!

It looks a lot of fun, and the vibrant Medium Azure paint is nice and poppy, and I also like the customisation options afforded by the stickers to truly make it your own. I doubt I’ll slather my set with stickers… but we’ll see!

The sliding door and expandable roof are also great design touches, and I can see this being a very playable set, in addition to its value as a display model!

Together with the upcoming LEGO Pickup Truck, the second half of 2021 is going to be an absolute blast (or pain!) for lovers of Creator Expert Cars!

The LEGO10279 Volkswagen T2 Camper Van will be available from 1 August 2021 from LEGO stores and on LEGO.com.

Check out more photos in the gallery below!

What do you think of the T2 Volkswagen Camper Van? Will it make your LEGO wishlist for 2021?

WTF Lego! Re-releasing all my pride sets in larger scale, more $$ versions. Of course they will be still be acquired for the collection. Just waiting for the Delorian to get an update now. But it’s a way better move than they are doing with the Star Wars sets currently.

Why aren’t the cool orange turn signal lights above the head lights like the actual van?

Did you know that Fiona, the @lego Friends florist Did you know that Fiona, the @lego Friends florist is one of the first minidolls depicted with Down Syndrome?

Fiona works at the flower stall on Unity Street from 41732 Friends Downtown Flower and Design Stores

She is described as being 'good at crafts and decorating, and knows all the flower species by name.'

It's World Down Syndrome Day today and I think it's remarkable and very important for LEGO to enhance the perspectives of children on neurodiversity, physical disabilities, ethnicity and mental health, as they've done with the LEGO Friends reboot.

Here's my review of one of the most anticipate @LE Here's my review of one of the most anticipate @LEGO Disney sets - 43217 'Up' House ahead of its release on 1 April 2023!

This set is a dream come true for many Pixar fans, and we finally get a cute, compact and great looking Up House.

It has plenty of references to the movie, and Carl's everlasting love of Ellie, his late-wife which will absolutely delight fans.

Despite a strong lineup of minifigures (including an awesome Dug mould), the set's incredibly expensive pricetag (US$59.99/AU$89.99) doesn't feel like good value, especially with Kevin nowhere to be found.

Here's a look at 40587 Easter Basket, an incredibl Here's a look at 40587 Easter Basket, an incredibly affordable and attainable GWP that's available from 16 March!

It will be a GWP when you spend US$70 / €70 / £65 from 16 March - 9 April.

Lots of things to like here, as the design is cute, and the build is surprisingly technical, and it blends both Botanical and Animal construction.

Also like that the redemption period stretches into April, so if you have the Indiana Jones, Disney 100, or Guardians of the Galaxy sets on your radar, it should be an easy one to qualify for!

Such a breath of fresh air to get such a substantial GWP without having to spend hundreds of dollars. More like this please, LEGO!
