The Republic Gunship wins the Star Wars UCS fan vote!

February 6, 2020 By Jay 11 Comments

After a much-publicised fan vote, the LEGO Ideas team have revealed the much anticipated results – the Republic Gunship has been voted by fans to become one of the next Star Wars UCS sets.

It defeated the Nebulon B Escort Frigate (which I was campaigning for), and the TIE Bomber, with over 50% of the vote, proving that Prequelers are now the dominant force over Original Trilogy fans.

Memes aside, while I am disappointed that my first pick didn’t make it, I’m quite happy about the Republic Gunship. It’s been a long time coming for such an iconic Prequel ship to receive the UCS treatment.

With the upcoming Disney+ Clone Wars final season, I’m sure we’ll see a lot more appreciation for all things Prequel in 2020 and beyond.

I can’t wait for this set, and it would be amazing if we get a Plo’s Bros version but I’ll be VERY surprised if that happens.

To everyone that voted TIE Bomber and Nebulon, better luck next time and hopefully LEGO just has the Nebulon in their product development pipeline for eventual release.

This has been an interesting experiment from LEGO, and I love the entire concept of fan-voting UCS sets. I hope we see a lot more of this, where the LEGO fan community gets more of a say with future releases.

With this as a precedent, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to see a vote for the next modular building, or even an entirely fan-picked LEGO minifigures series!

What do you think of the results? Let me know in the comments!

Same here, but the Gunship was my second choice, so I’m pretty happy.

I wanted the Nebulon B – but love the gunship (and Tie) so whatever won, ended up being a win for me !

I voted for the Nebulon B Frigate too but I’m not disappointed in the result either. However, I still think the Republic Gunship is better suited to a system-scale playset with a decent selection of minifigs. I missed out on the 2013 version which looked really good but it’s too expensive on the secondary market. Given the UCS version will probably be huge and not minifig scale I suspect they’ll only include a couple of minifigs to put on the display stand. Nice memes btw ?

Same! I missed out on the previous minifig-scale one as well, so I’d definitely be in line to pick this up.

Apparently we’ll be getting a whole slew of Clone Wars sets this year in H2 (to tie in with the Disney+ series), so here’s hoping for a Clone Battle pack to shore up numbers!

Memes are the only way I know to interpret important news.

Pack your walking stick because we're going on an Pack your walking stick because we're going on an adventure to explore the LEGO Hundred Acre Wood with @lego LEGO 21326 Winnie the Pooh!

To celebrate its 95th anniversary, Winnie the Pooh & friends will make their LEGO debut in this 1,265-piece set that will retail for US$99.99 / AU$159.99 / £89.99.

The set's release date is 18 March 2021 for LEGO VIP members, and 1 April 2021 for a wider release and will be available on LEGO.com or your local LEGO Store.

It's pretty clear that LEGO have yet another winner on their hands with Winnie the Pooh. An eternal favourite of any generation, Winnie the Pooh's carefree, joyous nature is just the antidote we need in these troubling times, and I'm so glad that LEGO have done a terrific job with this set.

Stay tuned for my full review tomorrow!

Last year was definitely the most unprecedented™ one yet, but one that I will treasure forever.

It was an incredibly challenging year, having had to navigate through multiple job changes, yet you have never once wavered with your support and faith that I would find my feet eventually.

I might have caused some sleepless nights when work was uncertain, yet you continued to be a pillar of strength to our family, and by God's eternal grace, we always seem to come out on top.

Working from home has been truly enjoyable, especially now that you get a glimpse into the banality of work life, Zoom calls, meetings that could be emails, corporate jargon and why there must always at least 2 mugs on my desk at all times.

Thanks for taking on a second job as WFH Office Manager, tolerating my Amazon addiction and sticking around in spite of my crippling caffeine addiction.

Happy anniversary, love and here's to many more happy years ❤️

It's a bit of a strange one this year, with the pandemic throwing plans into disarray, and my family being further away than usual, so celebrations were a little different in 2021.

Thank you @LEGO for an excellent range of Chinese Traditional Festival sets. 🙏

@little.ong (and myself) really loved the Duplo Happy Childhood Moments set, and I especially enjoyed the new dumplings element! 🥟

Spring Lantern Festival is one of the best LEGO sets I've had the pleasure of building, and I also appreciated the foray into the mythological origins of Lunar New Year with Story of Nian. 🧨🧧🎆

More sets that celebrate the rich cultural diversity of the world, please! 🌏

For #Ninjago fans, it doesn’t get much better than this. 71747 The Keeper’s Village is packed with value and is a great centerpiece to Season 14 – The Island.

I have a soft spot for location, or structure-based Ninjago builds, so The Keeper’s Village strikes that itch in the best of ways.

The jungle lair sets the scene and provides a rich backdrop that works really well as a small playset and display piece.

Combined with a very generous helping of 5 minifigures, there’s a ton of value and playability built into the set, especially the stone pillar which works remarkably well as a “big enemy” for the Ninjas to deal with – it very much gives off a “mini-boss in a video game vibe”.

The highlights for me would be Chief Mammatus and Thunder Keeper’s designs. As a big fan of the Islanders theme, I love that #LEGO could callback to those designs in a fresh new way, utilising the tech and innovation that’s now possible through minifigure design.

Whether you’re an adult fan looking for a set that’s a bit more kiddy, outlandish and fun, or you’re planning to buy this for a young child who wants an engaging playset, I can highly recommend 71747 The Keeper’s Village.

Rating and score: 4/5 ★★★★✰
